What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Celestion Ditton 120

The name Celestion has been synonymous with loudspeakers since 1924 ans is today held in high esteem throughout the world by sound engineers and music lovers alike.
The high fidelity loudspeakers detailed  in this article the latest in the famous "Ditton" range and is the  result of extensive research and development carried out in the Celestion laboatories.
Celestion quality is evident throughout the new Ditton 120 and the unrivalled and exclusive Celestion features which have made Celestion "Dittons" world famous are incorporaed into this new system.
The upper register from 3 kHz to 15 kHz is reproduced faithfully by the renowned HF 1300 treble unit, many thousands of which have been supplied to manufactures for inclusion in monitoring systems. This "pressure" type unit is 1½" (38 mm) diameter and has an exceptionally smooth response due to careful attention to phase correction and acoustic damping.  The very low mass of the diaphragm assembly and the high magnetic flux permit transient response ofa high order. The small area of the diaphragm provides an excellent polar radiation pattern and ensures a highly satisfactory stereophonic image.

The middle-bass register is reproduced by a sophisticated unit of very high quality. The diameter is 5" (120 mm) and a linear diaphragm excursion of up to ½" is possible ensuring correct reproduction of bass notes at all volume levels. The diaphragm assembly is controlled by a massive magnet system having a flux of 50,000 Maxwells which ensures high efficiency and optimum damping.
The third radiator is a new version of the exclusive Celestion auxiliary bass radiator now known universally as the ABR. This device ensures improved reproduction of low bass notes even with comparatively small enclosure dimensions. The ABR is operative at the lowest part of the register from 35 Hz to 70 Hz and since the work is shared between the two bass diaphragms efficiency is increased and distortion reduced to a vry low order; in short, the ABR ensures true bass.

The electrical system is integrated by an inductance-capacity frequency dividing network which has been meticulously designed to provide a level response.
The Celestion Ditton 120 reproduces the full audible range and is suitable for connection to virtually all high quality amplifiers. Where cost and size figure the Ditton 120 provides outstanding value and performance. The appearance will please the most fastidious and the smooth and effortless sound quality will delight the musican and connoisseur alike.
The appearance and finish of the 120 enclosure is excellent. By using a single sheet of veneer to completely enclose the four sides of the cabinet there is a joint running of the cabinet there is a joint running along one edge only; conseguently it will look equally good in whatever position it is placed. The rear is neatly finished with connections provided by means of two colour-coded screw terminals.

Yamaha A - S3000 (New classic)

Meticulously designed and beautiful in appearancejust like a musical instrument
As befits a top-end audio component, the A-S3000 gives off the presence of a fine musical instrument, with absolutely no screws or fasteners that can be seen from the outside. Every single aspect of its construction and design exudes master craftsmanship and reflects an obsession with quality—a truly musical quality possible only for Yamaha, a world class musical instrument manufacturer. The amplifier with its refined design has been meticulously finished by the skillful use of advanced processing technologies: integrating the top panel and side wood connection, leaving no gaps while using different materials—metal and wood—for the connection.

Rigid Streamlined Construction provides strict anti-vibration protection,
and enables shortest cabling routes
The A-S3000 has adopted a newly designed highly rigid double structure construction in order to achieve profoundly pure and accurate audio amplification. The bottom chassis and insulator ward off external vibration, and provide each circuit board a floating structure supported by an independent inner frame, thoroughly eliminating the impact of vibration. And the power source unit, which consists of a power transformer and capacitors, which are major sources of internal vibration, is fixed firmly with a three-dimensional structured inner frame, and is supported solidly by the front panel and the rear panel. The power amp circuit board and the weighty heat sink are attached to the left and right inner frames. The power supply unit and amplifier circuits are thus structurally isolated, achieving an ideal chassis structure which thoroughly blocks the transmission of vibration. Moreover, the inner frame that supports the power transformer is shaped with ample space below it, allowing passage of the wiring to each circuit over the shortest possible route. The newly developed chassis with this innovative structure helps to minimise the length of the signal paths and achieve low impedance, as well as providing high rigidity and anti-vibration benefits. The result is a dramatic reduction in signal loss, for remarkably pure audio amplification.

Left-right symmetrical design for independent pre amp and power amp blocks
The amplifier circuit design features independent pre amp and power amp blocks, and perfect left-right symmetry. Separation of the pre amp, which handles low energy signals, from the power amp, which handles high-energy amplified signals, greatly reduces sound deterioration caused by mutual interference. Moreover, the left-right symmetrical design, which keeps the left and right power stages completely separate, ensures greater channel separation and enhances clarity of the stereo image.

Thorens TD-320

The TD 320 is the logical conclusion of the realisation of the experience that Thorens have made with the development of the world ackowledged "Reference" and "Prestige" turntables, combined with more than 100 years of tradition in the reproduction of music. The Thorens TD 320, a concept with future.
Features
Servo controlled electronic Thorens belt drive
Resonance absorbing MDF chassis
Clean and uncoloured sound
Professional TP 16 MkII tone arm
Friction-free velocity-sensing electronic shut-off
Design of lasting elegance
 The Thorens belt-drive
The Thorens motor drives the turntable platter by means of a rubber belt. The natural elasticity of the belt prevents most motor vibrations from reaching the platter and therefore, the pick-up stylus, in more than 20 years of continouous development, Thorens has reduced the very few disadvantages of belt drive to an absolute minimum and has brought it to level of technical perfection which is not approached by any other system known today.
A particular development is the Thorens acceleration clutch, which prevents the belt from stretching, thus reducing the starting time and eliminating chassis vibration.
Because of the high performance required by descerning listeners, Thorens has decided to retain its own unique belt drive system as long as no better drive system is developed in Thorens laboratories or elsewhere.
 The Thorens floating suspension
Every turntable must be damped by a suspension system to prevent the sensitive pick-up from environmental vibration and from acoustic feedback. If the springs are placed between motor and turntable platter, they than fulfill the additional requirement of decoupling motor vibrations almost completely from the turntable and the pick-up system.
Chassis  1 carries the motor and controls. Chassis 2 which is isolated by three easily adjustable leaf springs carries the platter and tone arm. The chassis of the 320 is made of amedite material which absorbs resonances resulting in cleaner and more precise sound.
Specifications mean very little to how good a turntable sounds.
The selection of the appropriate materials, the individual tuning, and the harmonisation of all the components are decisive in determining the sound quality.
Thorens have been involved in the production of turntables since the existance of records.
 Friction-free velocity-sensing electronic shut-off
As the lead-out grooves of records show a higher pitch - i.e. the grooves are further apart from one another - the tone arm motional speed increases towards the center of the platter. An electronic circuit picks up the signal produced by the change in the tone arm velocity and commands the motor to stop and the tone arm to raise.
The precision associated with Thorens turntables is further emphasised her, since the activation of the auto stop process is not position sensitive, but fully electronic and friction-free.
The Thorens automatic stopsystem also enables the operator to cue with studio precision at any point on a disc, even at the operator to cue with studio precision at any point on a disc, even at the very centre.
Another circuit prevents the activation of the auto stop process when the tone arm is moved by hand over the disc surface.

Thorens TP-16 Mk II

Professional TP 16 MkII tone arm
For optimum in tracking ability it is not sufficient that a tonearm has a low bearing friction. It is much more important that it has a low effective mass, because high mass prevents the stylus from following the imperfections (warp or ripple) of the record as it should do.
To overcome high effective mass one can increase the stylus force, but this results in excessive record wear.
Precision bell bearings are used in this professiional arm, mking it insensitive to shock and rough handling , ideally used for broadcasting and discotheques. In addition, the TP 16 MkII is a straight arm and not S-shaped. The necessary offset angle is independent of the arm shape. A special surface treatment of the tone armtube absorbs all undesirable resonances of the tone arm.
It will optimise ideally with almost every cartridge.

Even though an integrated amplifier, it maintains Dynaco's reputation for easy -to-build kits, as attested by High Fidelty Magazine: "Building the SCA-35 offered no problems, and several hours of pleasant diversion, to the kit enthusiast. The printed circuit boards are supplied with parts already mounted, and wiring to them and to the rest of the chassis is fairly simple because of the happy absence of crowded areas. The instruction manual is clearly written and excellently illustrated. Total working time was eight hours."
The result, the magazine went on, "… is, in a word, an excellent amplifier - especially so in view of its cost"   Kit price in 1971 was $ 99,55 for East and $ 104,95 for West.
