What is stereo?




There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Low-Mass Straight Tonearm with Dual Radial Bearings
A special alluminum alloy is used to give the arm its formidable strength and exceptionally low mass. Both qualities are needed to take full advantage of todays, supercompliant cartridges. The straight-line geometry assures the most accurate tracing angles as well as contributing to the arm's low mass. A pair of precision radial bearings give the arm a lateral sensitivity of only 10 milligrams. Even the normally-over-looked signal connectors are of the constant wipe type, insuring contact maintenance at all times.

Headshell
Thanks to the use of carbon fibres, the headshell is as light and rigid as the arm itself. It joins the arm with a semi-integrated plug-in system that utiliizes thick gold-plated wiping-type contacts. Oxygen-free copper leads are used to exclude electromagnetic influences (eddy-current losses) resulting in exceptional transmission characteristics. (Improved S/N ratio).

Skating Force Cancellation
Anti-skating is provided by a precision-calibrted adjustment to exactly match vertical tracking force.

Oil Damped Cueing
Feather-light contact between stylus and record groove is provided by the oil-damped cueing system. It is silent, smooth and, at the end of a record, completely automatic.

 Belt Drive Turntable System (Armless)
Many manufacturers have been promoting the direct-drive motor at the expense of precision materials and manufacturing techniques. While direct-drive is capable of remarkable speed accuracy, the system does nothing toward maintaining that accuracy against the inevitable destructive effects of aging.
Our  philosophy is that there isno substitute for quality, precisoin and tank-like ruggedness.
 The BL-91 (L) turntable is the ultimate expression of that philosophy. Staring with a massive, thick,  12,2inch platter and employing special-alloy bearings machined and polished with techniques usually reserved for turbojet engines, Micro's engineers have devised an exclusive oil-bath damping system to support the entire rotating assembly in complete isolation from all mechanical resonaces.
A precision-ground drive belt connects the rotating assembly to the brushless, servo-controlled motor with total isolation from motorgenerated vibration. In fact, the BL-91 (L) is probably the smoothest, most vibration-free device of its kind ever built.

 Electronics power Transformer
To service the servo electronics, a special transformer with a cutless core was developed. This extremely low-flux device reduces to near zero magnetically-induced hum when used with a moving-coil phono cartridge.
 Turntable Base
The base of the BL-91 (L) is made completely of multi-laminar natural woods,a dense, sturdy design that prevents the transmission of resonances and distortion forces. It is finished with hand-rubbed, natural-ebony veneer suspended on four sophisticated, anti-feedback feet.
 Brass TonearrmMounting Plate.
The tonearm mounting plate on the BL-91 is solid brass. It weighs 1,5 kg (2,0 kg for BL-91L). This plate keeps the tonearm fulcrum rigid, assuring accurate tracing angles and minimal tonearm resonances.

Tandberg TR-2075

 Very powerful amplifiers can degrade tuner and preamplifier performance. So separate components became the rule and -for years- the rule made sense. But now we,ve found ways to break the rule and build a very high-powered receiver with better performance for less cost than comparable separate components. We started with a high power toroidal transformer to eliminate stray electrical influence on other components within the unit. Large Tuning Meters
The TR-2075 has two tuning meters: the signal strength meter gives full scale deflection for strong aerial signals (200 mV). This meter also has a scale for indicating audio output power. The centre-zero meter makes it easy to tune-in FM stations spot on and is particularly important for stereo transmissions.

 Tape Monitor and Tape Copy
Both tape recorder inputs have a Tape Monitor facility permitting source and tape testing during recording. The Tape Copy facility allows copying in both directions between two tape recorders connected to the TR-2075. Copying can take place without affecting any other programme that is going to the loudspeakers.

Separate Output/Input Amplifier Section
The pre-amplifier and the power amplifier can both be used as separate units. At the back of the TR-2075 there are phono sockets for the input and output of each channel. This means you can connect the pre-amplifier to another amplifier or to other hi-fi unit. In the same way the power amplifier in the TR-2075 can be used independently.

Highly Efficient Ferrite-Rod Aerial
The Am aerial is situated at the back of the receiver and can be rotated through 270° to the best position for reception. The TR-2075 also has sockets for outdor aerials for  FM and AM.

Garrard 401

 The Garrard 401 which operates at three standard speed is produced to the highest  technical specification to meet the most exacting requirements of radio, television and recording studios as well as for high-fidelity enthusiasts.
Styled by one of Britain's leading designers it presents an elegant appearance in metallescent charcoal with chrome relief. The balanced, machined turntable is an aluminium, gravity casting weighing approximately 6 lb.
Accurately spaced, gear-cut stroboscopic markings on the periphery of the turntable are illuminated by a high-intensity neon lamp situated in the rigid aluminium base plate.
This is a unique feature of the 401 and enables the user visually to check that the turntable is running at exactly the correct speed.
 Fine speed adjustment is achieved by means of an eddy current brake; a control on the unit base allowing the speed to be veried by plus or minus 3 per cent.
The high - and low-range (110 -125 V and 220-250 V) shaded-pole induction motor, encased in a heavy iron casting to provide full magnetic screening, is isolated from the base plate by six tensioned springs. This provides an effective vibration barrier between the motor and the rest of the unit. The spindle is machined from a high grade of steel which is then hardened, tempered, ground and superfinished.
A double-pole switch is used for the power supply to the motor and is fully supressed. Each unit undergoes the most rigorous inspection and test, and the final performance figures are recorded on an individual test report which accompanies the unit.
