What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Sansui SP-200

Creative Speaker Design Based on Repeated Hearing Tests as Well as on Laboratory Test
Speaker performance may be well measured by laboratory instrumentation. But "live" sound must be proved by human ears or hearing test. Thus, Sansui's speaker system is designed on the basis of a wide variety of data obtained from repeated actual test as well as from laboratory tests. These tests have been made not only in our modern laboratory  and test rooms made of different construction materials. That's why Sansui's SP series system can reproduce lifelike stereo sound wherever it may be installed.

3-way 5-speaker system
The SP-200 is a full range 3-way 5-speaker system consisting of a 12-inch woofer, two 5-inch midrange speakers and two 2-inch horn type tweeters. It can faithfully reproduce deep, rich lows, and clean, transparent highs, and all the tones in between.
Woofer - Designed to match the "pipe-ducted" bass reflex type enclosure. Its edge, paper cone, damper and other components are all designed to give the best linearity even at any big amplitudes, assuring good damping characteristic at low frequencies. Equipped with specially designed level control.

Midrange - It is  often said that the quality of midrange determines the value of a speaker system. Generally many speaker systems tend to neglect the midrange, giving too much care to hig and low frequency ranges. The Sp-200 is provided with two 5" rear-sealed hgih-performance midranges whose powerful magnetic circuit prevents any interference with the woofer. They can reproduce a live sound of strongly attacked percussion instruments as if they were played just before you.

Tweeters - the clear, clean, transparent highs are a measure of a performance of a speaker system. The SP-200 posesses two horn type speakers whose frequency response is more than 20,000 Hz  and whose transient response is excelent, too. You can enjoy romantic mood of strings as it is.
Faithful Reproduction of Bass Tones by Pipe-Ducted Bass Reflex
The Sansui's exclusice "pipe-ducted" bass reflex enclosure helps reproduce original bass tones faithfully. The bass sounds that are boomy or exaggerated in a limited bass range never deserve the name of Hi-Fi. In order to match the pipe-duct characteristics, the woofer is designed to lower "f₀" greatly by the cross edge, assuring the faithfull reproduction of the lowest

Transformer Type 12 dB Crossover Network
Here's the Sansui's exclusive knowhow of the transformer. The transformer type network is designed to let each of woofer, midranges and tweeters function in its most suitable frequency range, assuring clear sound even at the crossover points.

Specially Designed Level Control
The Sansui's exclusive transformer-type crossover network changed the level control from the conventional volume-type attenuator to the latest tap-type control whose operation does not influence the damping characteristics at all. This level control has three positions to adjust clear, natural and soft. The "natural" position is for the average rooms; "clear" for the rooms where the highs are swallowed up and the lows are exaggerated and "soft" for rooms where the lows are swallowed up and the highs are  exaggerated.
25 mm Thick Glass Wool Used as Sound Absorbment
25 mm thick glass wool with the highest sound absorbing coefficient possible prevents the standing wave from occuring in the enclosure. As a result, the mutual interference of the speakers is completely eliminated.

Beautifully Finished Walnut Enclosure
The enclosure is meda of high-density tip boards of 21 mm in thickness and beautifully finished in walnut. Due to its structural design and select materials it has unsurpassed durability.

Deluxe hand-Carved Speaker Grill
The speaker grill is a fruit of an exquisite combination of Japanese traditional craftsmanship and European elegant color and design. It will enhance the beauty of your living room. What's more, it helps produce better quality of sounds.

Interference-Free Positioning of Speaker
Although the installation of two or more speakers in one box often leads to the mutualinterference between them, the Sp series system splved such a problem through years of our researches on the positioning of the speakers.

Sansui 1000A

The latest power tubes and push-pull output amplifier combine to give the 1000A a distortionless output up to 80 watts and maximum music power of 100 watts. The head amplifier utilizes a transistor circuit for a gain three times larger and a S/N ratio far superior to conventional tube-type amplifiers. Power bandwidth range is from 20 to 20,000 Hz and the distortion factor a low 1% at 1khz. A two-stage noise limiter, muting circuit, advanced switching matrix and  stereo indicator help to put the 1000A into the studio class of stereo equipment.
Features:
The 7591 power tubes operate in class AB, Push-pull )fixed bias) for high fidelity reproduction. Their combined maximum out put is limited to 100 Watts. Total harmonic distortion at 1 kHz is 0,8%,and even at very low frequency where it is extremely difficult to minimize harmonic distortion, the distortion is limited to not more than 1%. This is quite a feat for a 100 watts amplifier.
Another remarkable feature is the damping factor of 9,5, a figure which is lower than that of triode power tubes coupled in P.P.. This is way bass sounds come out with such clarity.
New 7591 P.P. produces 80 W without distortion

NFB used in all amplifier circuits, from pre-amplifier to power amplifier. The low distortion of the power amplifier is meaninglass if the pre-amplifier generates distortion. This 1000A uses a three-stage  amplifier circuit in its intermediate or control amplifier - unlike conventional one-stage control amplifiers - and has all its circuits in a single negative-feedback loop. These make 1000A free from noise and distortion.

Super precision transistor pre-amplifier eliminates hum and noise.
The exclusive Sansui four-transistor pre-amplifier, which features a transistor circuit factor of 4-as compared with conventional 5 dB, eliminates hum and noise, the enemy of high-fidelity reproduction. The amplifier has a much netter S/N ratio and a gain three times larger than vacuum tube amplifer.
Highly sensitive two-stage RF amplifier using two Nuvistors a three gang variable condenser.
The 1000A has an extremely compact high gain RF amplifier for FM, which uses two cascode-coupled, low noise Nuvistor tubes with a three-gang variable condenser.
Therefore the tuner outperforms conventional single-stage grounded grid RF amplifiers by 10 dB in amplification and assures stable, high-selectivity, high-fidelity reception.

Double-limiter shuts out noise.
The 1000A is equipped with a two-stage noise limiter, which works effectively even where the field intensity is weak. It reliably eliminates a wide variety of noise such as annoying ignition sounds and other interferences.

Muting switch supresses noise during channel selection.
Unlike conventional EM receivers, which produce loud noise in the absence of input because their limiters require a certain level of input voltage to perform their noise-limiting function, the 1000A produces no noise even when not tuned to any station. This is because it has a built-in "Muting switch" (squelch circuit) which disconnects the audio amplifier stage automatically when tuner input drops below a certain level.

Three-dimension performance possible with center-channel output terminal.
The 1000A has an output terminal for the center-channel amplifier. Connect it to a monaural amplifier, and enjoy a three-dimansion effect.

Each channel can be operated independ ently (equipped with double-knob conrol)
Each channel has an independent tone control for bass and treble. This makes fine adjustment possible.
Equipped with advanced high-performance accessory circuits.
This amplifier is equipped with various advanced accessory circuits such as loudness control, low and high filters, tape monitor, presence, and headphone jack.

Amazing channel separation of 35 dB and more ensured by advanced FM multiplex circuit. The adoption of the most advanced switching matrix method for the multiplex circuit has amazingly improved the performance of the 1000A. The amplifier has a full-fledged AFC, which can be switched off if you like.
The  AFC enables you to enjoy a stabilized reception of FM broadcast for many hours once you have  tuned in.

Easy-to-see FM multiplex stereo indicator
The FM multiplex stereo indicator actuated helps you tune in FM stereo stations easily and reliably.

Single-stsge RF amplifier with three-gang vaiable condenser for AM
The addition of a single-stage RF amplifier to the AM tuner has improved its sensitivity remarkably. This makes it particulary useful for DX reception.
Moreover, it has such an excellent image ratio that no beat is produced between your ststion and another neighboring station.

Built-in, high-sensitivity ferrite antenna
The built-in, high-sensitivity ferrite antenna adds to your listening pleasure by reducing noise to less than that of conventional tuners.

Sherwood S-5000

The "new" Sherwood S-5000 dual amplifier preamplifier makes possible either stereo or monaural high-fidelity systemoperation with only one set of basic coordinated controls, yet offers every important control feature essential to both stereo and monaural operation. These include 10 two-channel controls, stereo normel/revers switch, phase inversion switch, and dual amplifier monaural operation with either set of input sources. The five modes of operation; stereo, stereo-reversed, monaural 1, monaural 2, monaural 1 + 2, are selected by the function switch which also operates a corresponding group of indicator lites to identify the selected operating mode.
All controls operate both channels simultaneously. In addition, the bass and treble controls feature friction-locked shafts which also allow the adjustment of one channel separately from the vertical rumble and noise components balanced out. A tape monitor switch permits instant comparison of recording input signal to tape with recorded output from tape when used with recorders offering monitor heads.
 Special features:
Stereo-monaural indicator lights
Dual/single bass and treble control
Compensated ganged loudness control
Plays monaural records with vertical rumble and noise balanced out
Stereo normal/reverse switch
Phase inversion switch
Ganged presence rise switch
Ganged phono and scratch filter switches
Ganged tape monitor switch
Stereo balance controls both channel
Six high level inputs
Four phono/tape preamp inputs
3rd channel output
Two tape monitor inputs and recording outputs
Speaker damping factor selection
Color coded cables and receplacles
The Model S-5000 also can be used as a 40 watt monophonic "starter" system planned for later conversion to a 20 + 20 watt stereophonic system. The interchange from a 40 watt single amplifier to a 20 + 20 watt dual amplifier is accomplished by a single front panel switch. This circuit connection features the full sum of the 2 separate amplifierrs' outputs instend of using the power-robbing parallel connection commonly used.
All Sherwood amplifier now provide selectable damping factors of 10/1 (normal) or 2/1 (for use with today's popular compact speaker systems).
The Sherwood S-5000 Function Selector operates its associateed indicator lites to identify the source-speaker combination selected. This exclusive feature, which also serves as the off-on pilot lite, tells at a glance which stereo or nonaural function has been selected as shown in the chart at right. Note especially the last position, :Mono S1 & 2" which connects a stereo phono pickup in such a manner that the vertical rumble and scratch components are balanced out for use with monaural records.

Important aids to flexibility of stereo system operation are the bass and treble controls included in the Model S-5000. each control features friction locked dual knobs. With normal usage, the main knob on each control operates both left and right hand channels  simultaneously due to its friction-locked concentric shafts. In addition, one channels tone may also be adjusted independently of the other. This is possible, because the 2nd-channel indicaqtor knob can also readily be adjusted without moving the 1st-channel knob as permitted by the friction -locked shafts. Afyer this independent adjustment, both channels  are again automatically ganged together for simultaneous operation by the main knob without upsetting the inter-channel relationship selected.

Sherwood S-8000

With every performance capability of a separate tuner and amplifier, Sherwood's "new" S-8000 FM Stereo Multiplex Receiver is rapidly becoming one of the industry's most popular high-fidelity components.
This unit contains all of the electronics for a complete home music system on a single compact chassis. The S-8000 features two 32-watt amplifiers, complete with dual preamplifiers for phono and tape plus a highly sensitive FM tuner with complete wired-in circuitry for receiving FCC-approved FM multiplexed stereocasts. Just add speakers to complete your stereo home hi-fi music system.

The Model S-8000 integrates in one unit all of the important controls and perormance features offered separately on any of Sherwood's FM tuners, stereo amplifiers, and FM multiplex adapters. The usual concern about heat dissipation from a complex unit of this type has been solved by Sherwood design engineers. In the S-8000, the unique new Novar output tubes have been tilted toward the rear of the chassis so that tube heat is deflected away from other components by Sherwood's exclusive air-cooled heat baffle.

Klipsch KG ⁴

Loudspeaker design embodies a careful marriage between the art. Of music and the science of its reproduction. The Klipsch KG ⁴  is an example of this marriage in a most harmonious state.
Outside, a beautiful cabinet of handcrafted, hand oiled wood - fine furniture destined to be a credit to your hoem.
Inside, indisputable evidence of engineering excellence - proven audio techniques combined with innovative audio ideas.
The result is a splendid speaker system with a sole, single-minded, very important purpose.
To previde you with an uncommon enjoyment of music.

Klipsch KG ⁴ - meeting the demands of audio today, setting the standards for audio's future.

[A] - New Klipsch designed high frequency horn/driver assembly handles more power, delivers wider bandwidth, and gives you smoother response. You get a sharply focused stereo image and lifelike dynamic range. You'll feel as if you can touch the music while it is touching you.

[B] - One secret of the KG ⁴  is powerful, well-extended bass is found in the use of a rear mounted passive radiator. This passive radiator is tuned to operate in conjunction with the front mounted 8" drivers and lowers the bass response of the KG ⁴  to a solid 38 Hz.

[C] - New Klipsch designed 8" (203 mm) low frequency drivers are constructed of special copolymer material that simultaneously increases power handling and reduces distortion. The two drivers operate in unison for a rich, full mid-range and bass output. The KG ⁴  has a big sound, rivaling much larger speaker systems.
[D] - High density foam is attached to the walls of the cabinet interior, eliminating interior siund reflections. This results in smoother frequency response.

[E] - Klipsch cabinetry is the immediately evident indicator of the construction quality that has made Klipsch famous Meticulously crafted of genuine wood veneers, oak or walnut. Hand oiled to a rich lustre. Each pair is matched for color and grain structure. One tiny flaw in one speaker and the pair is destroyed.

[F] - The input panel of the KG ⁴  is built in conjunction with the crossover network of the system. New, advanced circuitry protects tweeter from possible damage due to overdriven or clipping amplifiers.

[G] - Built-in riser base lifts the system to the proper height for the best stereo effect and keeps the system coupled to the floor for maximum bass.
