What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Klipsch La Scala

Theatre and Commercial System - designed for theatre use, La Scala is a wide-range loudspeaker, adaptable for custom installation or as a portable unit for professional musicians.
La Scala may be used in a corner or along a wall. It is a full 3-way horn system of the most compact size currently available, yet is in no way a compromise of sound quality.
La Scala employs the same drive components as the Klipschorn. The midrange horn is slightly smaller than that of the Klipschorn and teh woofer is shorter and is folded into two paths instead of three as in the Klipschorn.
Only Klipsch speakers and Klipsch 3-speaker master stereo system meet the 8 cardinal points of reperoduction:
1.Freedom from distrortion. Minimum distortion requires small amplitudes of air mass movements, even at peak transisnt power output. Bass diaphragm motion should not eceed 1/16 inch. Corner placement reduces distortion three fourths.
2.Optimium size of speaker. Large enough to reproduce the lowest audible bass tone at peak transient power output without distortion; not so large as to produce a separation of bass and treble events. Corner placement increases effective size of speaker 4 times.
3.Freedom from rattles.
4.Freedom from shadows. Obstructions between high frequency speaker and listeners can not be tolerated - treble wave-lengths do not turn corners.
5.Freedom from cavities. The space under a speaker box formed by mounting it on legs can destroy the bottom octave of response and deteriorate the next 2 octaves.
6.Adequate spacing for stereo. In a 14 x 17 foot room, for example, the 17-foot wall is apt to be best for the stereo speaker array.
7.Accurate spatial values. Ability to localize the virtual sound sources in their original spatial relationships requires 3 widely spaced speakers, regardless of size or type, retention of this quality over a wide listening area requires toe-in of the flanking speakers.
8.Flanking speakers toed-in. Such toe-in is naturally provided by corner speakers. The effect is to reduce shift of the virtual sound source for different listener locations. This is the only way to achieve a wide area for listening.

Celestion Ditton 15XR

The completely new Ditton 15XR is a sophisticated bookshelf loudspeaker system using all new components but drawing on the valuable experience gained with the world renowed Ditton 15. the design of "compact" or bookshelf loudspeakers demands the solution of special problems if proper bass reproduction is to be obtained. With the introduction of the highly successful Ditton 15, Celestion perfected a principle now universally known as the ABR. This device has a rigid diaphragm with linear roll neoprene suspension. Its motional mass is precisely calculated and acoustically coupled within the hermetically sealed enclosure. When signals are applied to the main bass drive unit the tuning is such that the ABR is in phase through a frequency band in the region of 60 Hz down to 30 Hz. Bass frequencies are thus shared between the main and auxiliaty diaphragms.
That the ABR confers substantial benefits perticularly where the enclosure dimensions have been limited, as in the Ditton 15XR, has been endorsed repeatedly by the technical Press. In addition to extending bass response downwards, giving a more realistic musical balance, and intrinsic function of the ABR is to reduce the required excursion of the main bass unit, thereby further reducing harmonic and doppler distortion. Both power handling and efficiency are also improved, resulting in increased dynamic range and therefore greater musical realism.

  1. The latest type HD 1000 tweeter designed and produced by Celestion to the highest standards, the frequency range of this unit is from 2,5 kHz to 28 kHz. The domed diaphragm ensures good dispersion and low distortion.
  1. Anechoic cellular foam wedge and lining absorbs unwanted acoustic energy within the enclosure and prevents the formation of standing waves which would be detrimental to the loudspeaker performance.
  1. New NS8 (8") bass midrange drive unit with specially plasticized fibre cone to prevent resonsnces whilst the neoprene roll front suspension and concentric rear suspension permits the 1-inch long coil the large movements essential for the correct reproduction of low bass notes, with minimal distortion. A powerful 51,000 Maxwells (11,000 Gauss) magnet system weighing 1,1 kg controls these excursions, and all the components are housed in a new pressed steel plated chassis.
  1. Units mounted flush to eliminate diffraction effects and tunnel resonances; covered by acoustically transparent grille cloth for maximum presence.
  1. ABR (Auxiliary Bass Radiator) New 8" unit with front neoprene roll suspension and pressed steel plated chassis, developed to work in concert with the bass/midrange unit.

Electro Voice 12 TRXB

 Integrated 3-way speaker Features:
Massive die-cast frame
Viscous damped cloth suspension
Ceramic magnet
Integral Sonophase VHF driver

Incorporating  all the design advantages of the famous Electro-Voice Radex Caaxial principle, the Electro-Voice Model 12 TRXB integrated 3-way loudspeaker includes, also, the latest developments in the reproduction of the highest audible frequencies through the use of an integral Super Sonax VHF driver.
The  12 TRXB emplous the Model T35B VHF driver base response is excellent, affording pleasing musical balance without the masking effects previously experienced from extended high frequency reproduction.
The 12 TRXB loudspeaker is designed to meet optimum listening requirements; latest developments incorporated insure even, smooth coverage of the entire listening area. The engineered features of the Electro-Voice integrated 3-way speaker system include true oncentric mounting of all reproducing elements; augmented balanced bass response in conjunction with smooth, extended high frequency reproduction, carefully tailored mid-range characteristic to provide realism and a considerable degree of "presence" at usual sound levels. The 12 TRXB incorporates in the high frequency section the Sonophase throat design.
The importance of the Sonophase throat design is paramount above 12 kc, where sound must b taken from the center of the diaphragm and the outer periphery simultaneously.
At lower frequencies, where the diaphragm is a piston, and no phase shift is required in the path configuration, the longer central path length does not appreciably change the phase due to the longer wave lengths involved. Further benefits are affored in the high frequency section of the Electro-Voice integrated 3-way speaker systems by the incorporation of Electro-Voice developed diffraction horns as the method of achieving the best dispersion. In stereophonic use especially, a 3 dB concentration of sound in one portionof the subject, with the resultant distortion of the solid or stereo effect. An adjustable "brilliance" control is incorporated to allow matching of response to room acoustic, compensating for high frequency absorptive efects of heavy drapery and soft frnishhings; crossover network with full 12 dB per octave slope minimizes distortion; edgewise-wound aluminum voice coil design affords 18% more efficiency and consequent damping of transient distortion.

Bozak B-401 Rhapsody

For a quarter century - since the beginning of "high fidelity" - Bozak loudspeakers have been acknowledged as representing the highest standard of music reproduction.
This has been true both for all types of music and for every range of loudspeaker size and price.
Recognition of Bozak quality has not been confined to music in the home. The same qualities which have kept Bozak pre-eminent among those striving for the finest living-room music reproduction have been equally - perhaps even more so - recognized by professional musicians and audio engineers. The result is that the compact loudspeakers in this folder carry with them the same name and reputation as the sound systems used for the Broadway hit musicals A Little night Music and Candide, in such famed outdoor concert locations as the Hollywood Bowl, Tanglewood and Ravinia and in the mobile orchestra stand used by the New York Philharmonic for its summer series of Concerts in the Park.
While enclosure size bears a direct relationship on loudspeaker performance, the compact speaker systems described below have been engineered by Bozak so that active components complement each specific cabinet size to provide the maximum faithfulness of music reproduction for the particular sizes involved.
 Rhapsody
Model B-401 (free standing unit sculptured foam grille)
Model B-402 (bookshelf unit with changeable cloth grille)
The largest of Bozak's line of compact speakers, the Rhapsody is available in two enclosure configurations, both of which feature genuine walnut veneer surfaces with Bozak's special stain-resistant matte finish.
Model B-401 is a vertical free-standing unit with a pedestal base and with a sculptured foam grille. It can accommodate an insert of glass, slate or marble to protect the fine finish of the top when it is used as an end table.
Model B-402 is a bookshelf version with a changeable cloth grille. It may be used either vertically or horizontally since all surfaces (except the back) are completely finished.
A true three-way system, its speaker complement includes the famed 12-inch variable-density, high-compliance Bozak B-199A bass speaker, the patented B-209B midrange driver, developed in Bozak's laboratories to give maximum presence in the midrange without "break-up" distortions, and the dual B-200Y tweeter array for broad dispersion of the upper frequencies without the shriliness so often encountered. Midrange clarity is further heightened by the fact that the driver is completely isolated from the bass enclosure.
This combination of the very same speakers used in the largest Bozak systems, combined with a passive L-C crossover network, provides a full spectrum of true sound from natural bass through clear midtones to the highest shrill-free treble.
A three-position Acoustical Contour switch permits adjustment of the output frequency response to accommodate varying room acoustics or individual preferences.
If your circumstances require a compact speaker, there is no better choice than the Bozak Rhapsody.

Bozak B-301A Tempo

The uniform quality of Bozak speaker components is such that a Bozak woofer purchased today, for exmple, can be matched with a woofer purchased 10 years ago. This uniformity stems from the fact that Bozak, unlike most other manufactures, completely fabricates and assembles its own component speakers and cabinetry - even going to the extent of compounding the materials used in its speaker cones.
This component unifirmity also permits Bozak to offer its unique speaker "growth" system. Which means that, as your room size, musical acuity or budget increases, your investment in these compact Bozaks need not be lost.
The components can be incorporated into larger Bozak Systems.
An investment in a Bozak speaker system is a lifetime investment in musical enjoyment.
 Tempo II

Model B-301F with true walnut veneer surfaces, pedestal base, sculptured foam grille.

Tempo II is the smallest three-way speaker system in the Bozak line and the finest truly bookshell-sized speaker system available.
It is a true state-of-the-art. System. Bozak engineers having had to develop an entirely new midrange unit to provide true three-way reproduction in an enclosure of such modest size. Components, include the famed variable-density, high compliance 12-inch B-199A woofer, exclusive with Bozak, for bass without artificial boom; a special 41/2-inch dampened aluminum midrange speaker which gives a clarity of these important tones not found in any other bookshelf system, and a single unit of the famed Bozak B-200Y tweeter, front mounted, for smoothness in the upper ranges.
An L-C crossover network transfers the sound from one component speaker to another at a smooth 6 dB/octave rate. An Acoustical Contour switch permits varying the output frequency response from Normal (Flat) to Bright or Mellow to suit room acoustics or individual preferences.

Bozak B-201 Sonora

 Sonora
Model B-210
Desgned for the discriminating music lover who has restricted listening space or budged, the Sonora represents the ultimate accomplishment in two-way speaker desing. Among bookshelf speakers it is distinguished by the openness, clarity and solidity of its sound. Its efficiency is such that it provides faitful reproduction even when driven by the low-powered amplifiers in music systems designed for smaller rooms.
To approach the perfection of three-way Bozak systems, Bozak engineers had not only to develop a special component speaker to handle the bass and midrange frequancies, but also to devlop a vented enclosure to  assure open bass tones.
The wide-range Model B-800B speaker employs a spun aluminum cone of patented design to provide a combination of rigidity with low mass and high compliance to permit outstanding transient response over a broad frequency range. The lightweight cones allow faithful reproduction at even low amplifier powers, but, since its aluminumcones dissipiate heat, it is capable of handling in excess of 60 watts of power -  power handling capability unusual in a speaker of its size.
For the treble frequencies, a single unit of Bozak's celebrated B-200Y tweeter is employed. A passive L-C network provides crossover between the two component speakers at a frequency of 1800 Hz and at s smooth 6 dB/octave raate.

KLH Model Five

 Acoustic Suspension Speaker System
The KLH Model Five represents our best efort to make the highest level of loudspeaker performance available in a system of reasonable size and cost. It combines very wide frequency range, low distoetion and exceptionally uniform response across the audible frequency range. It offers the greatest low frequency and power handling capabilities of all KLH bookshelf size speaker systems. And its high frequncy response and dispersion provide the impression of an open, completely unrestricted sound source, with fullmusical definition of even the most complex and demanding orchestral material.

The Model Five is a four-speaker, three-way system of acoustic suspension design, housed in a cabinet of oiled walnut measuring 26 inches by 13-¾ inches by 11-½ inches. It is finished on four sides, and may be used vertically or horizontally on the floor or wall. Its impedance is 8 ohms, allowing efficient power transfer from solid-state amplifiers. And its power demands (suggested minimum; 25 watts IHF music power per channel) are well within the capabilitles of good amplifiers of both tube and transistor design.
The low frequency speaker is a 12-inch driver with heavy cone and magnet assemblies. Its cone is a critically controlled mixture of cotton and wood pulps, wool and asphalt. Like other KLH acoustic suspension speaker, it does not rely on the stiffness of a conventional outer cone suspension to control the motion of its cone at low frequencies.
Instead, it uses the acoustic stiffness of the air trapped within its tightly sealed cabinet to supply the necessary restoring force for the cone. This "air spring" is far more linear in action than the best mechanical speaker suspensions, and reinforces the cone's ability to make accurate axcursions over long distance to reproduce the lowest frequencies without distortion. Its low frequency harmonic distortion, the most critical factor in determining the usable bass response of a loudspeaker, remains minimal at the lowest frequencies and the highest listening levels ever likely to be called for in a living room. Its overall bass capabilities are greater than those of far lerger conventional speaker systems.

The two mid-range speakers are he same remarkable miniature, heavy magnet drivers used as full range units in the KLH Model Twenty-One radio and model Eleven phonograph. These speakers, with the highest ratio of magnet power to cone weight over built into a loudspeaker, are capable of far wider frequency coverage than they are called on to supply in the Model Five. Their use here over a limited frequency range helps to achieve a trully remarkable clarity and uniformity of response in the mid-range, and to supplement the excellent dispersion of high frequencies.

The high frequency speaker, also mounted in a sub-enclosure, is a 1-¾-inch direct radiator with a cone of critically shaped shell-like amterial. The high frequency response of the Model Five is greatly responsible for both its remarkable musical definition and the impression of an open, unrestircted sound source. High frequencies actually play a more important role than bass in achiving breadth and spaciousness of reproduced sound, and the Model Five's overall performance at high frequencies is equalled. In our experience only by the KLH Model Twelve, which uses the same mid- and high frequency drivers. The Model Five's capability for revealing without exaggeration, previously missing details of musical definition is best judged by listening to a good record with which you are throughly familiar. We believe you will be genuinely startlrd by the results of such a lest.
The cones suspensions and other critical parts of all four speakers in the Model Five are designed, manufactured, and rigidly controlled by KLH. It also allows attention to the small details of construction that are at least as important as basic design principles in achieving a given and consistend level of performance. And it allows us to guarantee that any two Model Five all the production line will  match within 1-½ dB across the entire frequency range - a level of uniformity which can be promised, to our knowledge, by no other manufacturer.

To provide for a final choice by the listener of the relative balance of important segments of the frequency range, the Model Five is provided with two three-position switches that adjust the 2500 - 7000 cps and 7000 - 20,000 cps ranges. These switches permit far more precise and repeatable adjustments than do the simple variable resistors offered for high frequency adjustment of most multi-speaker systems.

The Model Five is constructed of ¾-inch plywood carefully finished with furniture grade walnut veneer. Its cabinet design is intended to make the system appear smaller and less obtrusive than speakers of equivalent size. The grille panel can be shapped out for cleaning or substitution of other grille materials.

Rogers LS2

Designed to suit the smaller room where space is at a premium the LS2 needs no excuses made for its modest proportions. Presenting music in a bold and explicit way, the LS2's natural balance and ease of drive will compliment any system.
 Cone materials
The type of material used to form the cone of a loudspeaker has a marked effect on the overall sound and consistency of the loudspeaker. Over the years,a variety of materials has been used.
The original material was paper, which was pulped, compressed, and formed. This offered only the minimum of control over the resultant sound quality, especially in the critical midrange area, and effort was made to find an alternative.
In the mid-sixties, partially as a result of development work at Kingswood Warren, Bextrems - a kind of polystyrene - started to be used. …Bextrene with a damping compound to remove colourations in the region of 1,5 to 2 kHz. …polypropylene - developed considerably during the 1970s, again with pioneering work at research department, Polypropylene offered similar improvements over paper as did bextrene.  … as the material was inherently self-damping. Because of its lower density, polypropylene yields greater efficiency than Bextrene and hence greater sound levels are possible for the same power input.
