Lenco L 75/S (1976)

Diapason Reference Series

Form and material fi nd their perfect balance when combined by man’s ingenious intuition, like in the creation of musical instruments. Or when designing instruments for music reproduction. Adamantes III N.W. and Karis N.W. loudspeakers are worldwide unique: the cabinet is fully made in solid wood, following procedures and techniques that trace back from the tradition and knowledge of master craftsmen qualifi ed in the manufacture of acoustic speakers from generation to generation.

The multi-faceted diamond shape of Adamantes III N.W. and Karis N.W. was designed to provide a circular pattern of sound-wave emission from the loudspeaker, thus giving a close approximation to the theoretical ideal of point-source radiation. While listening to, the speaker simply disappears, leaving just the music and our emotion on the stage. The same multi-faceted shape is also found inside the cabinet. This gives very effective control of internal refl ection, while wooden structures of different thickness help ensure that the cabinet is virtually resonancefree. Simplicity, quality without compromise and the most advanced technological research are the guidelines in speaker design and in the choice of drivers and crossover components.

The DDD (Diapason Direct Drive) technology applied to bass unit has been developed during more than ten years’ experience in loudspeakers design, in collaboration with the best Northern European driver manufacturers. Thanks to DDD direct connection from the amplifi er to the bass driver is allowed without the use of a low-pass fi lter in the crossover. The result of this system can be heard immediately when listening: grater transient speed in low frequency range with no loss of sensitivity or phase rotation. The match with the treated silk soft dome treble unit will astonish the listener for its naturalness, realism, three-dimensional experience, and for its capability to return the full spectrum of musical information available during a live musical event. The completeness of all information available to our ears makes the listening experience with Adamantes N.W. and Karis N.W. full of emotion and acoustically detailed. The drivers, especially manufactured according to Diapason specifi cation, are performance-matched within a tolerance of less than 1% for loudspeakers best acoustic performance.

The 3/P stand (63 cm) patented design removes cabinet vibrations by transferring them away from the speaker to the fl oor through three steel support bars. The wooden 3 columns shape works just as external structure since the speaker is isolated from the ground by stell bars only. The 2/B stand (75 cm) is made of a heavy metal and wood structure. The 2/B is provided with 4 cm spikes under the bottom base, making the stand ideal for use on carpet floor.

The high-pass crossover circuit is hard wired with Van den hul CS cable in oxygen-free silver coated copper, eliminating deleterious sonic effect of printed-circuit boards. A stringent fi nal quality check is carried out before packing to ensure that every loudspeaker is in perfect working order. The original Diapason stands are recommended together with Adamantes III N.W. and Karis N.W., since they contribute to the superb sound and aesthetical value.

Front-ported centre-speaker, grants excellent results in voice reproduction, is a functional element in a multi-channel system, matching with Adamantes III N.W. and Karis N.W.

Diapason Ástera

Ástera

The new reference stand-mount loudspeaker designed by
Alessandro Schiavi in collaboration with Roberto Pasetti,
Ástera represents the evolution of the Adamantes III, renowned
and appreciated throughout the world for its exquisite
musicality and beautiful cabinetry.

Ástera`s cabinet is a work of great artistry, hand-made by the
finest Italian craftsmen whose knowledge and skill in this
traditional craft are handed down from generation to generation.
The multi-faceted diamond shape of the Ástera was designed
to provide a circular pattern of sound-wave emission from the
loudspeaker, thus giving a close approximation to the
theoretical ideal of point-source radiation.
The benefits will be appreciated during listening as the
loudspeakers themselves `disappear` from the musical scene,
providing the listener with a sensation of great detail and
realism within a solid and convincing soundstage.
The same multi-faceted shape is also found inside the cabinet.
This gives very effective control of internal reflections, while
the use of wood of different thickness for the structure helps to
ensure that the cabinet is virtually resonance-free.
The choice of drive units, crossovers, terminals and all ancillary
components for the Ástera project was made without
compromise. Only the finest components from the very best
makers were selected.

The loudspeaker drive units and crossovers used in Diapason
loudspeakers are the result of advanced research, and each is
tested and matched to closer than 1% tolerance to ensure best
performance and stereo balance.
The tweeter is a 29mm soft-dome unit with Hexadym magnet
and double damping and ventilation.
The woofer has a Nextel-treated paper cone with an injection
moulded metal chassis. The crossovers are hard wired
throughout using Van den Hul oxygen-free copper and silver
cable, a superior method which avoids the problems that can
affect even the best printed circuit boards.
Ástera`s ability to portray the full sonic spectrum of a recorded
musical event is a revelation. Music is endowed with natural
transparency, great detail and a correct and convincing
feeling of space.
Excellent too is the dynamic impact and the ability of the
loudspeaker to reproduce the micro-contrasts of instruments
and voices within a complex musical scene without ever losing
focus or coherence.

The 4/U dedicated stand for Ástera uses a resonance-damping
system already tried and tested with success on previous
Adamantes models. It relies for its effect upon the use of
different materials and the particular way in which they are put
together. The massive structure and considerable weight of the
stand makes the combination of loudspeaker and support very
stable to the benefit of sonic performance, especially in the
low register. The 4/U stand consists of four metal support
columns and side panels in real hardwood which together give
a pleasing look and great rigidity.
The height of the 4/U stands is 72cm, and adjustable spikes are
provided . The stand can be placed on a hard floor surface, or
on a carpet or rug.

Tannoy Dual Concentric Loudspeaker System

This twin Loudspeaker system consist of a direct radiator low frequency unit mounted concentrically with a horn-loaded high frequency unit. The voice coils of both loudspeaker systems are fed through a specially designed cross-over network. The frequency response of both units is intrinsically level and the wide frequency response is not obtained by trick effects, such as cone break-up or diaphragm resonance. The desigh of the low frequency cone, which forms the final section of the high frequency horn, is such that even distribution of high frequencies is odtained over a wide angle and in order that the low frequency diaphragm shall move as a truepiston, the body thickness has been increased and the surround is specially treated to prevent the setting up of subsidiary resonances.

The high frequency unit is of particularly robust construction to ensure adequate power handling capacity and to enable it to take over from the L.F. unit at a sufficiently low frequency to avoid the latter's running into break-up troubles. The diaphragm is a light alloy pressing located to within very close limits on the backplate by means of a turned recess. An aluminium voice coil conductor is used in order to preserve the correct mass relationship and phase matching arrangement to ensure a level and extended high frequency response. The first section of the H.F. horn is formed from the center pole and is continued by the L.F. cone.

In the design of this loudspeaker, great care has been taken to ensure that the entire system is truly apperiodic which, together with its wide frequency range result in really outstanding reproduction.

This Loudspeaker unit isavailable in two forms - a 15" version, capable of handling up to 25 watts which is particularly useful for use with high quality Sound Reinforcement systems and 12" version capable of handling up to 15 watts, which finds itsmain application in high quality Phonograph and Radio reproducing systems. An example of a suitable Cabinet design for the latter application is shown above and takes the form of a corner mounting Bass Reflex Cabinet.

There is no doubt that where the input source is of sufficiently high quality, the Tannoy Dual Concentric Loudspeaker system is well in advance of any type of loudspeaker hithertto commercially available

Cyrus One

Product Overview
Traditionally budget amplification was considered to have “budget sound”. The appearance of the Cyrus One in 1984 upset this established norm and revolutionised the audio industry. It demonstrated unequivocally, that an audiophile integrated amplifier was well within the grasp of the music lovers without the funds to indulge in exotica.
Designed by Cyrus to handle demands of modern loudspeakers and wide bandwidth recordings, the Cyrus One featured an exceptional power supply capable of responding to the source material requirements. This is the heart of the amplifier, the source of its stress free sound.

Further Information
To keep the signal as pure as possible, the Cyrus One features ‘minimalist’ circuitry devoid of the non-essential stages which interrupt the signal path. The signal integrity is preserved, even through this short path, by the use of only the finest components, including military grade power transistors and selected passive elements.
The cabinet and chassis are designed to do more than just elegantly cover the Cyrus interior: the case itself is made from a precision diecast non-ferrous metal alloy, while the chassis with integral heatsink made of diecast aluminium. In addition to structural integrity not demonstrated by any other amplifier at or near the Cyrus price range, these features improve the sonic fidelity by dispelling mechanical resonances, circuit microphony and airbourne radio frequency interference.
The Cyrus One has the capacity to accept five separate signal sources serving as the basis for a comprehensive hi-fi system. With its minimalist appeal and compact dimensions, the Cyrus One allows the listener to record from one source while listening to another and will accept the signal from high quality moving-coil cartridges as well as from the more common moving-magnet types. It is a completely functional package, providing the essentials without compromise.

Cyrus Two

The Cyrus Two set the standard for ultimate audiophile amplification. Designed to eliminate the extraneous aberrations caused by non-essential circuitry, the straight line Cyrus Two was “the” integrated amplifier for the persuit.
Amplification power is commonly defined in “watts” rating. In order to boast elevated specifications, amplifier manufacturers, in an increasing battle over specs, pushed their wattage ratings upwards at the expense of poor current delivery.

The Cyrus engineers defined high current swing capability as being the most important criteria in amplifier design. This is due to the reactive nature of loudspeakers requiring high currents rather than current-starved wattage. Being able to deliver currents demanded by the loudspeaker readily ensures true reproduction of the complex musical signal. At 50 Watts per channel the Cyrus Two can swing a substantial current of 60 Amps peak to peak.

The Cyrus Two incorporates a truly refined moving coil phono stage with excellent noise figures and minimal hysteresis, designed to work esoteric cartridges often costing many times as much as the amplifier. The direct CD input of the Cyrus Two eliminates unnecessary components that would otherwise interfere with the fidelity of compact disc reproduction.
But it does not stop there, for music lovers demanding even greater power, the Cyrus Two can be upgraded with the addition of the Cyrus PSX outboard power supply.
