The innovative radial phase plug, a result of a year-long Altec Research and Development investigation, is a key element in the Fifteen's extended high frequency response. It is the heart of an all new compression driver developed by Altec to give smooth response to beyond 20 kHz when coupled to the unique curved radial horn that has been adapted for use in the Fifteen.

 An exhaustive research program concentrating on low frequency performance has led to a thorough investigation of the enclosure/driver interrelationship. Internal acoustic pressure variations, material energy absorption, and dynamic thermal factors have been examined , analyzed and controlled to provide an optimum balance of low-frequency band limits and sensitivity. The Fifteen's superb low-frequency performance is the result of this enclosure tuning technology investigation.
