Allison Model Five

 ALLISON: FIVE
Introduced in 1976, the Allison: Four loudspeaker  system established a new standard of performance for  "bookshelf" systems of its size and price. It has still not been fully equalled. But the Allison: Five system now offers very nearly the same performance as the Four at a significantly lower price.
Both have an 8-inch long-excursion woofer in a cabinet of moderate size. Low-frequency performance is identical; Stabilized Radiation Loading design enables the systems to deliver bass power to a listening room that is essentially flat (-3 dB) to 41 Hz . This can be extended to 20 Hz at reasonable sound levels with The Electronic Subwoofer equalizer.
The Allison: Five system has a single Convex Diaphragm tweeter, as compared with two in the model Four. With only one tweeter the cabinet is a simple rectangular shape, less costly than that of the Four, which provides a further saving. The only performance compromises are a slight reduction in high-frequency power handling capability and slighty less high-frequency dispersion. In both respects, however, the model Five is significantly better than competitive speakers.
Balanced for use close to one room wall, the Allison: Five cabinet can be put on a table or a shelf, or mounted on the wall. It can be oriented with its long dimension either horizontal or vertical.

Allison Model Six

 ALLISON: SIX
In the Allison: Six the Stabilized Radiation Loading design principle is carried to just about its practical limit for an 8-inch woofer.  The cabinet is reduced in size to ½ cubic foot, yet the system's low-frequency output is basically flat to below 50 Hz (-3 dB at 46,5 Hz) while maitaining reasonable efficiency. Response can be equalized flat to below 30 Hz at moderate sound levels with The Electronic Subwoofer.
The same Convex Diaphragm tweeter as those used in all Allison loudspeaker systems is also used in the model Six. Therefore it has equivalent high-frequency range, smoothness, and the same uniquely wide dispersion in the forward hemisphere.
The model Six is intended for use with its back close to one room wall; on a shell, table, or bookcase, or mounted on the wall. The woofer panel can be oriented horizontally or vertically.
Because of the small cabinet size and the walnut-grain vinyl finish, the Allison: Six 's price is substantially below that of the model Five.

JBL L100 Century

The L100 Century is the most successful bookshelf loudspeaker ever produced by JBL. It may be the most successful loudspeaker in its class ever produced by anyone.
But we don't expect you to take our word alone. The plain fact is that the L100 was offered for home use only after it proved to be a runaway bestseller with studio recording engineers - the most demanding listeners you'll ever find.
This professional acceptance was no accident. The speaker was originally developed and offered for sale as a control monitor for recording studios.
 Technical Information
Low Frequency
Music below 1500 Hz is reproduced by a powerful 12 inch, long excursion loudspeaker with 3-inch edgewound copper ribbon voice coil, massive magnetic assembly, and large Alnico V magnet.
The cone is molded in a shape which makes possible uniform wide angle didstribution of the full low frequency range, and is coated with an exclusive damping factor damping compound, which prevents unwanted reverberations traveling within the cone material. An enclosure with a tuned port is employed to optimize bass efficiency and dynamic range.
 Midrange
Vocals and midrange sounds are reproduced by a 5-inch transducer having high sensitivity and power handling capacity. A 7/8" copper voice coil, suspended in an intense magnetic fieldprovided by a 2,75-pound magnetic assembly energized by an Alnico V magnet, drives the midrange transducer.

 High frequency
Delicate treble fundamentals, overtones and harmonics above 6000 Hz are reproduced by a 1,4-inch direct radiator. Its 5/8" copper voice coil is unusually large in relation to cone diameter, for greatest efficiency and transient response. Suspending the outer edge of the cone assembly with an impregnated cloth and surrounding the entire dynamic structure with a ring of dense foam eliminates unwanted rediations and reflections. The smal surface of the cone and center dome is responsible for uniform high frequency dispersion.

Dividing Network
The function of the network is far more complex than merely diverting low and high notes to a woofer and tweeter respectively; it wastes none of the power that should be used to drive the loudspeakers; it precisely controls each speaker's operation in the transition frequency range. Controls on the front of the cabinet, behind the removable foam grille, permit  adjusting midrange and high frequency levels for greater or less audible output in relation to the bass.
 Power handling capacity
The specified power handling capacity indicates the continuous program level that can be accepted by a JBL loudspeaker system without damage. Its peak power handling capacity is considerably greater than the continuous rated value, as reflected in the remarkable transient response of JBL loudspeaker system components.
The L100 will produce clean sound at comfortable listening levels when driven by an amplifier having an output of as little as 10 Watts RMS per channel.
However, for reproduction of the full dynamic range of contemporary recordings at high volume, a quality amplifier delivering up to 150 Watts RMS per channel will provide optimum performance. Such an amplifier has the reserve power necessary for accurate reproduction of transients, which can reach momentary peaks equivalent to ten times tha average power level. In almost all cases, the volume level generated by a JBL loudspeaker will become noticeably discomforting to the ear before the loudspeaker can be damaged by excessive power from the amplifier.

Enclosure
Only furniture hardwoods, hardwood veneers, and compressed woods are used. Tight, wood-welded, hand-fitted joints eliminate undesirable resonance  and warpage. Hand-rubbed oiled walnut finish on all four sides permits the l100 Century to be placed in either an upright or horizontal position.

Carver MXR-130 The Receiver

 The Carver Receiver
When Bob Carver designs a receiver you can be sure it is like no other. To give you the power you need for today's recording advances plus virtually noise-free stereo FM reception. Carver has designed a receiver with astonishing performance. This extraordinary instrument incorporates two of the high fidelity art.'s most advanced technological breakthroughs: Bob Carver Magnetic Field Power Amplifier and his Asymetrical Charge Coupled FM Detector.
With the Carver Receiver you command 130 watts per channel and fully digital quartz synthesized AM-FM stereo tuner through a highly sophisticated and meticulously engineered premplifier section.
Live music is full of lighting-fast transients, combinant crests of demand created by multiple music waveforms and high intensity peaks. To reproduce the full sound of the music now made possible by the most recent recording advances in fine analog recordings and especially Digital Audio Discs, your system needs large amounts of power to accomodate the dynamic range without distortion.
The Magnetic Field Amplifier in the Carver Receiver gives you 130 watts per channel of pure clean power so you can truky appreciate the music.
The technological elegance of the Magnetic Field Amplifier enebles it to produce large amounts of power without the need for heavy heat sinks, massive transformers, and enormous power capacitors required by conventional amplifier design.
Unlike conventional amplifiers which produce a constant high voltage level at all times, irrespective of the demands of the ever-changing audio signal and indeed even when there is no audio signal in the circuit at all the Magnetic Field Amplifer's power supply is signal responsive and highly efficient. It produces exactly and only the power needed to carry the signal with complete accuracy and fidelity.
The Carver receiver gives you FM stereo performance unmatched by that of any other receiver.
As it is transmitted from the station, the stereo FM signal is extremely vulnerable to distortion.noise, hiss and multipath interference. In fact because of the transmission system in use today the signal to noise ratio of FM stereo has been degraded fifteen times (more than 23 dB).
However, when you engage Carver's Asymetrical Charge Coupled FM Detector circuit, the stereo signal arrives at your ears virtually noise-free. You hear fully separated stereo with space depth and ambience.
You will also appreciate the AM section. Meticulous attention to every aspect of tuner performance gives you an AM section with true high fidelity response. You will not find another receiver with such high performance anywhere.
The Craver Receiver has been designed for serious music listeners who seek fidelity accuracy and musicality.

The cultivation of a very high-radiation cone-paper enables low-frequency reproduction all the way down to 20 Hz, a figure almost beyond the reproduction capability of a 12-inch woofer. Distortion is less than 1% at 1 mW input.

Flat Characteristics
The high-moving coil with its excellent transient stability, and special cone-paper with its superior vibration characteristics (70 mm in diameter) combine to completely cover the wide range of frequencies from 20 Hz to 18,000 Hz. The impedance characteristic is also excellent, allowing powerful sound reproduction with a high damping factor.
 Right and Left Channel Balance
The output sound pressure level is rated at lower than 1 dB for perfectly balanced stereo reproduction from both Right and Left channels. Unlike listening via speaker systems, headphone listening assures an optimum stereo effect, since Right and Left channel sounds never have the chance the interfere with each other in the air.

Ear Pads Designed for Comfort
The ear pad for model SS-2 are made of softly finished Vinyl-Chloride, leather-like in appearance. They have been doubly finished so that ambient heat never becomes a comfort-impairing factor. They can be worn over an extended period of time in complete comfort.

Functional and Attractive
The head band is completely adjustable for individual head and ear positioning.
The SS-2 is available in black and white two-tone design.

Caution
The SS-2 is a highly-sensitive headphone set. Its sound output is extremely high even at an input as low as one-thousandth of a watt. If the amplifier power is beyond the Maximu Rated Power Input, there is a possibility of damage. Therefore, in connecting this set directly to higher-powered amplifier the volume of the amplifier should always be reduced.
