Technics SL-PS70

 The Technics SL-PS70 with its D/A converter section including MASH 1-bit DAC (multi-stage noise shaping), was able to perform distortion-free reproduction of low-level signals, as well as micro-signals embedded in large signals. The unit used a multi-layer vibration-resistant construction and centre mechanism, which thoroughly eliminated vibration and resonance, as well as four large insulators that reduced vibration from the floor. The line Out circuits included Technics' unique Class AA circuitry.  Also, the power supply circuitry was structured with the audio circuitry specifically independent from the transformer coils. In addition, for comprehensive operation convenience, functionality included CD editing with normal time edit and just time edit selectable, and time fade enabling automatic fadeout.

MASH - Multi-Stage Noise Shaping, is an effective oversampling D/A conversion technique which realizes a high Signal-to-Noise ratio and needs no highly complex manufacturing processes such as a laser trimming. MASH is a trademark of NTT.

The research into excellent sound reproduction has resulted in the development of a new loudspeaker system configured similar to a musical instrument.
Based on original acoustic theory and using computer simulations the design utilises two different sized horns 3,2 m and 2,6 m '  for low bass reproduction with low distortion as well as high efficiency
"The SST-1 was a sound space twin loaded horn that emerged from the pursuit of high-quality sound. This unique form was structured from flow lines using a unique acoustic method by applying computer simulation technology. Compared with conventional back-loaded horns, the twin loaded horns of the SST-1 smoothed sound pressure frequency response in the midrange and high frequencies, thereby further improving reproduction capability with high efficiency and low distortion, which are characteristics of horn speakers. This also made possible the clear and energetic reproduction of deep bass. In addition, the speaker used a "brilliant throat" construction in which part of the horn was narrowed in order to prevent deterioration in sound quality. This also functioned as an acoustic filter blocking the emission of undesired midrange and high-frequency sound, which have extensive distortion. These synergistic effects dramatically improved the acoustic characteristics, from the high frequencies to bass."

For superlative digital and audio visual source reproduction the natural choice is Technics coaxial flat loudspeakers. The development speaker combines the even response characteristics of flat diaphragm speakers with the superior stereo imaging of a linear phase system. KEF K 120


The very first KEF compact speaker, in 1961 was the K1, a three-way baffle available in several formats. Since than, an honourable tradition of music related "C" series names has held sway. In this thirtieth anniversary year, the initial "K" returns to identify three models, each of which embodies the principles, experience, and tradition learned and earned during the past three decades.
Careful attention to both visual and acoustic design means that the "K" Series models are as easy and attractive to integrate into a home environment as they are capable of reproducing today's sometimes complex and demanding recordings in a lifelike and convincing manner.

The new K-Series models featured an attractive ‘louvred’ baffle, a quality 25mm ferro-fluid cooled tweeter, paper coned bass-midrange drive units for high sensitivity and substantial cabinets. They were carefully designed to offer an easy load to the budget amplifiers they were likely to be partnered with.

K120 (1991-93)
In the design of small loudspeakers every parameter becomes more critical. Only a'complete system' approach, as employed by KEF, is likely to bring success. Careful study of drive units, crossover and enclosure, separately and together, with their interactions, is the means to produce a musically integrated sound. KEF system design techniques have , in the K 120, produced a supremely musical small box, designed to produce its specified response when operated on a shelf, or stand mounted close to a wall.

The K 120 is a compact two-way speaker which sounds much larger than it looks. The lightweight 160 mm (6,5") bass/midrange unit provides uncoloured, fast bass response, whilst the 25 mm 91") fluid-cooled tweeter offers accurate, uncompressed high-frequency performance of exceptional clarity. A deeper-than-average cabinet gives an internal volume, and therefore a bass performance that belies its compact frontal aspect. The Boston Acoustic A60 is a highly achieve full volume. An amplifier or receiver rated as low as 10 watts is sufficient (though the speaker can handle as much as 60 watts). This efficiency means you can spend less money on your receiver or amplifier and get excellent performance.

Boston Acoustic speakers are well-known for their ability to recreate an accurate stereo image that increases realism and enjoyment. The dimension of the cabinet minimize unwanted sounds that would ordinarily muddy the stereo picture. The result is a crisp, focused image.
Another characteristic that contributes to good imaging is a tweeter that's matched to the woofer in terms of its radiation pattern. A limitation of ordinary tweeters is that they radiate sound forward in a tight pattern, like a flashlight radiates light. In contrast, all woofers radiate over  a broad area, like a table lamp. The tweeter incorporated in the A60 radiates in a very broad pattern, making the woofer and tweeter a well-matched team.

It;s not just how high and how low a speaker can go, but how far it can reach into the bass and treble regions while maintaining the correct proportion of high and lows.. The A60 maintains this correct proportion while reaching as high into the treble and as deep into the bass as any speaker in its class.

The A60's woofer uses a specially formulated cone material to eliminate frequency response irregularities at the top end of its operating range. The 1-1/2" tweeter has unusually wide dispersion for a diaphragm its size, due in large part to its elastometric edge termination. Its voice coil is bathed in ferrofluid to improve power handling.

Among the refinements in the A60 are a single-pole (6 dB/oct) network for uniform blending of the drivers in the crossover region and a smooth, easy-to-drive impedance. The grille panel has a 30-degree bevel around its inner perimeter that virtually eliminates early reflections (diffraction) that can blur the stereo image.
