NAD 5220 CD player

NAD's Compact Disc players are known for fine sound, superior tracking, powerful error correction, and reliable construction. But the greatest differecnce between NAD players and other is NAD's uniquely simple and logical approach to design.
The NAD 5220  CD player is securely in this no-frills, high-performance, best buy tradition. They were created for people whose primary interesst is music, not gadgets. The theme of simplicity extends to their analog output circuits as well; with only a handful of electronic components in the signal path, their sound is particularly pure and clean.
This player is eqquipped withh full-disc automatic repeat and programmable memory playback of up to sixteen selections in any order. And both players include new features of significant value to users. The economical NAD 5220 adds a Timer Pay feature that autimatically plays a disc when the power is switched on. So, by plugging the player's AC power cord  into a clock timer, you can provide your own choice of wake up music in the morning instead of depending on a clock radio.
NAD 5220 employ a solid metal chassis for maximum stability, precise alignment, and long-term reliability. The metal chassis provides electrical shielding to reduce leakage of interference from the digital circuits into your phono preamp or FM tuner. The playback mechanism floats on springs within, minimizing the transmission of vibration to the spinning disc, ensuring secure tracking even in the presence of the powerful vibrations produced by your loudspeakers.

The output circuit in this player exemplifies the "less is better" approach, with only a handful of electronic components in the signal path. The elegantly simple analog stage has only one active circuit in each channel; a high-speed filter that provides de-emphasis and removes unwanted ultrasonic noise. To ensure that this active filter circuit cannot be overdriven into transient distortion, the analog signal is pre-smoothed by a passive multipole filter that is connected directly to the digital de-multi-plexer. High-quality polypropylene capacitors are used at sonically critical points in the circuit, e.g., in the treble de-emphasis network.

Onkyo F-5000 loudspeaker

Onkyo model F-5000 Phase Aligned Array Speaker System
3-Way, 3-Speaker, Acoustic Suspension System with Planar Woofer, Planar Midrange, and Direct Drive Membrane Tweeter.

By now, most audiophiles understand the importance of phase accuracy. During a live performance all the notes - or frequencies - produced by the musicians have specific phase (time) relationship to each other. And the many overtones  - harmonics -  within each note also have specific orders in time and strength. If these subtle musical phase relationships are confused or lost, so is true fidelity.
Loudspeakers, because they operate simultaneously in the separate worlds of electronics, mechanics and acoustics, have the worst problem with phase accuracy. And the most difficult to correct, in the attempt to correct for phase aberations, speaker manufacturers have produced an odd assortment of peculiarly shaped enclosures and driver configurations. But these half-measures create as many problems as they solve.
Only Onkyo provides a total solution to the phase problem. The Onkyo Model F-5000 Phase Aligned Array is  a three way system whose individual drivers are inherently phase accurate because of their radically difierent - and technologically superior - construction.

The tree planar (flat-diaphragm) drivers in the Model F-5000 were developed through laser interferometry and computer analysis of the phase randomizing break-up modes in conventional driver cones. Onkyo's solutions for the F-5000 are emboded in the diaphragms of the 12" bass and 4" mid-range drivers. They consist of essentially flat annularly ribbed polyurethene/felted paper patented laminations that are inert, stiff, and yet have exceptionally low mass.
The critical high-frequency reproducer (DDM - Direct Drive Membrane) in the F-5000 employs an extremely thin and light polyamide memnrane. The result is electrostatic-like clarity, definition and center imagery, without the typical electrostatic drive problems.
The computer-developed crossover network, designed for the required phase characteristics, employs only air-core inductors and Mylar capacitors.
Onkyo's efforts and quality construction have resulted in smooth, wide frequency response, flat amplitude and precise linearity. Thus, the sound waves that come out of the system are almost mirror images of the sound waves that go into them. The overall effect is one of clarity and transparency delivered from a unit that looks as good as it sounds.

ADC Sound Shaper Three equalizer

ADC has four Sound Shaper frequency equalizers that will improve your sound system. No matter how good it is. And at a cost that's lots less than trading in your components.
ADC Sound Shaper will improve your speakers. By extending thr true bass response, including the critical mid bass. ADC Sound Shaper will improve the relationship between your cartridge and speakers. From one of partial incompatibility to total compatibility.
They'il also eliminate rumble (low frequency overload), tape hiss and record scratches. And that only scratches the surface of what ADC Sound Shapers can do. For instance, the walls, carpeting and furniture of your listening room physically bounce sound around so that some spots have less sound than other spots. Lots less. ADC Sound Shapes will bring these "dead" spots to life.
Perhaps best of all, though, is a Sound Shaper's ability to let you re-equalize what a recording engineer mixed. If a horn section is overwhelming a piccolo, for example, you just slide the appropriate frequency lever. Presto, more piccolo. You can also vanquish a voice. Or boost a tube. Sound Shapers segment the entire spectrum of sound. To let you re-shape a sound track to your personal musical preferences. It's all the control you've ever dreamed of but never dreamed possible.
To get into equalizers, start with our Sound Shaper One which operates in five frequency ranges. Or our Sound Shaper One Ten which gives you greater control by operating in ten frequency ranges.
For more professional equalizers, there's our Sound Shaper Two MkII which functions in twelve frequency ranges with a two-channel LED meter And there's our new Sound Shaper Three Paragraphic Equalizer.
It combines all the advantages of a graphic equalizer with all the advantages of a perametric equalizer. Twelve primary frequency controls per channel. Plus twenty-four ancillary control positions per channel. The Sound Shaper Three is the ultimate in controlling and creating with your stereo system.
Take the ultimate step up in sound, without trading in a thing.

JVC JL-F30 turntable

 Fully Automatic Belt-Drive Turntable
Features:
Fully automatic Lead-in, Repeat, Return and Shut-Off
Four-pole synchronous motor
Proven Belt-drive system
New gimbal support

Cost and performance. The relationship between these two factors has always been a headache to designers/engineers. At JVC our engineers tried to create -and did - a balanced turntable in the JL-F30 for any serious audiophile, using our own 4-pole synchronous motor and the proven belt-drive system. It's no surprise that it has a low wow and flutter of less than 0,06% (WRMS) and a high Signal-to-Noise Ratio  of better than 67 dB (DIN-B). With the fully automatic convenience, the JL-F30 offers more performance for less investment than other automatic on the market.

The JL-F30's fully automatic mechanism allows manual operation at any time during play. An oil-damped arm up/down lever (CUE) is provided, so that you can cue on any of the selections on a record, regardless of arranged sequences.

The 4-pole synchronous motor spins the aluminum platter through the linkage of a belt-drive system. Vibration is filtered out and speeds are kept steady against power voltage fluctuations or load changes. JVC quality control is evident throughout this unit. The unit also offers the benefits of a low-silhouette design, making it perfect for any home decor, solid cabinet construction. Parallel isolating Suspension and other features.

Aiwa AX-7800 receiver

DC Stereo receiver with Digital Quartz Synthesiser Tuning

Now Aiwa proudly introduces an exceptional high fidelity receiver designed to make tuning faster, easier and more accurate than ever; the revolutionary new AX-7800. with the same quartz locked digital-synthosized tuning system utilized on the most sophisticated and expensive FM tuners available today.
Now perfect tuning is as simple as pressing a button There's no more fumbling or fidgeting with tuning knobs, dials and center tuning meters. The new Aiwa AX-7800 simply doesn't have any.
Instead, it provides an instant digital readout that's perfectly tuned to the actual station frequency being received.
Drift is impossible. Because Aiwa's quartz crystal oscillator locks instantly and precisely into the center of each succeeding station's assigned frequency. Now when you tune the Aiwa AX-7800, you stay tuned. With unerring accuracy that even separates weaker stations from their stronger neighbors. Something no conventional receiver with AFC can do.

Aiwa's new AX-7800 is loaded with features; like memory Tuning that lets you preset up to 6 FM and 6 AM stations. Like a highly visible 9-point LED peak power bar graph. Like independent bass and treble frequency turnover controls.
And the AX-7800's DC-power amplifier gives you 60 Watts per channel RMS at 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with no more than 0,05% T.H.D.
Right now, almost no receivers have all these advanced features.
Features:
Quartz PLL synthesizer tuning
Automatic tuning
Manual scan selection
Auto search hold tuning
Direct selector key

DC amplifier design means optimum sound quality at all frequencies
By the use of classic DC design in the power amplifier section, deterioration of low-frequency sound components due to phase shift is largely avoided, giving the AX-7800 superbly flat reproduction characteristics all the way down to DC (0Hz). Total Harmonic Distortion is kept to a completely inaudible 0,05% from 20 to 20,000 Hz at rated output, and the 3-stage differential amplifier circuit also assures superior signal-to-noise performance from tuner, turntable orother sources.

High performance equalizer amplifier.
Employing a newly developed plus-minus split power supply IC, the dual FET differential amplifier used for phono cartridge reproduction assures close adherence to the RIAA reference curve, as well as a high signal/noise ratio of 80 dB. The 200 mV maximum phono input provides dynamic margin with any type of high quality MM cartridge.

Pioneer PL-4 turntable

The PL-4 is an Auto-Return Turntable. All it's essential controls - speed, pitch control 9with strobe) and cut - are grouped on the slanted front edge. Placing a record on the platter and moving the tone arm over to it is all that is necessary to enjoy record play. There's no need to physically touch the tone arem at any other time. The arm automatically returns to its rest when play is over. Even arm cueing is provided by an arm elevation device located at the base of the arm.
The arm is straight-contoured and constructed of low-mass PG (polymer Graphite). It is rigid, resistant to resonance, and lightweight. Record warps, eccentricties and cartridge/arm resonance pose no obstacles to accurate tracking. Sensitivity is increased by the low-mass design and distortion is measurably reduced.
The PL-4 employs the Pioneer coreless DC servo motor with Stable Hanging Rotor. Designed without cores, slots and brushes, it offers the smoothest cog-free rotation. Because of electronic switching by hall elements, it does not generate switching noise and years of reliable performance are assured. Mated with this advanced motor is an equally precise periphery integration speed detection circuit. It compensates for the minutest error in rotational speed four hundred times per second. The result is impeccable short-term and long-term speed accuracy.
Both the delicate cartridge and the tone arm are protected from acoustic feedback by the Coaxial Suspension system which mounts the motor and arm on a separate subchassis. Neither air-borne nor floor-borne vibrations are capable of affecting the tone arm, its base is isolated from the cabinet and suspended by four spring-loaded feet.
All in all, the PL-4 is a tough act for any competitive model in the same price range to follow because of its high-value features and top-flight specifications.
