Pioneer PL-117D turntable

Full-Automatic Turntable with Precision 4-Pole Synchronous Motor

The PL-117D from Pioneer offers the important combination of quiet, stable turntable rotation and convenient full-automatic or manual operation. As quiet a performer as your're likely to find in a moderately-priced turntable, the PL-117D owes much of its outstanding operation features to the use of a high-torque 4-pole synchronous motor and to its howling-free, hand-crafted cabinet. These important design features, coupled with a sensitive S-shaped pipe-arm with anti-skating device, ensure that the PL-117D will deliver the finest of performance specifications - wow and flutter of only 0,07% (WRMS) and a very high Signal-to-Noise Ratio of 63 dB (DIN B). Beautifully constructed, the PL-117D is a perfect addition to a new system of stereo components that is designed on the basis of tonal quality.

Belt-Drive system with 4-pole synchronous motor

The strong turntable platter, free from fluctuation in line voltage and load, is rotated by a high-torque precision 4-pole synchronous motor and its polished polyurethane belt. These turntable features contribute to wow and flutter of 0,07% (WRMS) and high Signal-to-Noise Ratio of 63 dB (DIN B)

Sensitive S-shaped pipe-arm with anti-skating device

An angular-contact bearing is employed at the revolving point of the tonearm's ball-bearing which ensures that the precision tonearm and its easy-to-operate anti-skating device can trace record grooves faithfully during playback, either vertically or horizontally, with even light stylus pressure cartridges. The turntable is also complete with a direct-readout stylus pressure counterweight for easy replacement of cartridges.

Convenient cueing device

The viscous-damped cueing device is connected to the arm elevation lever to help prevent damage to both stylus and records often caused by misoperation.

Howling-free, Double floating system for superior tonal quality.

The cabinet of the PL-117D is strong, howling-free and typical of quality Pioneer craftsmanship. Its solid surface panel features such excellent properties as optimum inner loss, impregnable strength and high density. It is thus free from resonance. The turntable platter and tonearm are fixed to the  chassis of the PL-117D, suspended from the surface panel with springs. The motor is fixed to the surface panel with a rubber cushion. Further improvements that contribute to outstanding tonal quality and exact record reproduction are the insulators composed of butyl rubber and natural rubber which prevent vibration conveyed from the floors. The cabinet itself is elegantly styled in an attractive walnut grain finish.
