Beyer-Dynamic DT440 headphones

Earphones are made for ears.
That's why the Beyer DT440 has sound so natural and is so light and comfortable you don't even know it's there, even after many hours.
At 9,6 ounces, it is one of the lightest headphones available. Andits weight is evenly distributed among the sponge-padded ear-cups and air-filled headband.
There's no great weight suspended from your head, and your ears never get squeezed.
Some people complain about the isolation of headphones that close them off from the world. So we built the DT440 with a high velocity open design, to allow a natural mixture of recorded music and environmental sound.
How does it sound? Most people say "spectacular". A great combination of impact and intimacy. The overall sound is wonderfully smooth and transparent. With clean, rich bass response. Powerful, lifelike midrange. Crystal-clear, undistorted highs. And perfect stereo imaging.
For sound - and for comfort - nothing beats a Beyer. We'd like to make one for you.

Audio Technica AT30E cartridge

AT30E Stereo Phono Cartridge with Vector-Aligned Dual Moving MicroCoils and user-replaceable Stylus.
A top-quality moving coil cartridge exhibits remarkable sonic clarity and transparency. This performance can be attributed to the very low mass, and low inductance of the tiny coils used to sense the stylus motion. But until now, moving coil cartridge popularity has been limited by three major problems which seemed almost inherent to moving coil designs.
1)It seemed impossible to make a user-replaceable stylus assembly without compromising performance.
2)Most moving coil cartridges exhibited relatively low tracking ability due to rather stiff cantilever mounting system.
3)Outputof the cartridge was below the level needed for commonly available amplifier inputs.
Introducing the new Audio technica AT30E and the end to all three problems. Our design approach is simple and direct. Rather than localethe coils in the cartridge body, they are integral with the stylus assembly. If the stylus becomes worn or damaged, the entire moving system, coils and all, is simply unplugged and replaced, just like a moving magnet cartridge. Large, gold-plated connectors insure loss-free connections so vital at the low voltages generated by a good moving coil cartridge. The result is easy field replacement with no penalty in terms of performance.

Careful research indicated that good tracking and moving coil design were indeed compatible. By controlling, effective mass and utilizing a radial damping system similar to our famed Dual Magnet cartridge, we have achieved excellent tracking ability throught the audio range. Compliance is individually controlled during manufacture of each assembly to optimize performance. This extra step, impossible with most other designs, coupled with our unique radial damping ring, insures excellent tracking of the high-energy modulation found in many of the top-quality recording now available.
Each coil is located in the ideal geometric relationship to reproduce "its" side of the record groove. This Vector_Aligned design assures excellent stereo separation, minimum moving mass, and the highest possible efficiency. It's design concept which is exclusive to Audio-Technica, and is a major contributor to the outstanding performance of the AT30E.
The AT30E output is similar to many other fine moving coil cartridges. But an increasing number of amplifiers and receivers are featuring built-in "pre-preamplifiers" or "head amplifier" to accommodate moving coil cartridges directly. Thus the new systems buyer can make a cartridge choice based on sonic characteristics rather than on input compatibility. In addition, Audio-Technica offers the Model AT630 Transformer for matching to conventional amplifier inputs.

ADC 1700DD turntable

The tonearm you'll find on the ADC 1700DD reduces mass and resonance to new lows. So the music you hear comes out pure and clean. Our engineers have combined the latest advancements of audio technology to create the amazing 1700DD, the first low mass, low resonance turntable.
The famous LMF carbon fibre tonearm was the model far the sleek black anodized aluminum tonearm found on the ADC 1700DD. The headshell is molded carbon fibre, long known for its low mass to high tensile strength ratio. The viscous cueing is a gentle 4 mm/sec., and the tempered spring anti-skate adjustment is infinitely variable to 3,5 grams. The pivot system uses stainless steel instrument bearings, which are hand-picked and perfectly matched to both the outer and inner races for virtually frictionless movement. All this makes it the best tonearm found on an integrated turntable.
The base on the ADC 1700DD turntable is constructed of a highly dense structural foam which absorbs and neutralizes resonance and feedback. The speed selection control is an electronic microswitch which will respond to your lightest touch.

Supporting this resonance-cancelling base are energy absorbing, resonance-tuned rubber suspension feet. These suspension feet help to stabilize the base while controlling resonance.
The motor in the ADC 1700DD is also present standard of excellence: Direct Drive Quartz Phase-Locked Loop. A quartz crystal is used in the reference oscillator of the motor. An electronic phase comparator constantly monitors any variance in the speed, making instantaneous corrections. Even when out of the Quartz-Locked mode, the optical scanning system keeps drift at below 0,2%  Wow and flutter are less than 0,3% Rumble is on incredible 70 dB DIN B
The result of all these breakthroughs is pure, uninterrupted enjoyment.

Philips AF-877 turntable

This hi-fi record player is equipped with "Direct Control", a completely new type of drive system combininig the advantages of both belt and direct drive systems and ensuring an absolutely constant turntable speed with negligible wow and flutter.
The prime mover is a d.c. motor which drives the turntable/tachometer assembly via a precision ground belt. The tachometer continuously monitors the turntable speed, which it feeds to an electronic circuit. This compares the signal from the tachometer to an extremely stable reference signal. Should any difference be found, a control signal is immediately triggered, the action of which is to adjust the power supply to the motor so that the correct turntable speed is instantly obtained. Mains voltage or temperature fluctuations and varying frictional forces arising from, say, the use of a cleaning arm thus have minimal effect on the turntable speed.

Other features of this record player in addition to its unique drive system are:
Extremely low rumble, thanks to the independent suspension of the turntable and pick-up arm.
Electronic touch controls for starting and stoping. These are a great convenience and are silent and vibration free in operation.
Function indication by LED's
Precise adjustment of turntable speed is made possible with the aid of fine-adjustment controls and an electronic speed indicator.
Adjustable stylus force and side-thrust compensation
Viscosity damped pick-up arm lift

Philips - Direct Control

Better than belt. Better than direct.
What's better than belt and direct drive? The best of both in one turntable. The specs of direct drive with the acoustic and mechanical isolation of a belt drive. Until now, unheard of. But now you can hear it all on Philips exclusive new Direct Control turntables.

Philips' exclusive Direct Control electronic drive system
In all Philips Direct Control turntables a mini-computer at the driving disc constantly checks and re-checks the platter speed. Instantly correcting for any variations in line voltage, frequency, pressure on the platter, temperature - even belt slippage. That's how all Philips Direct Control turntables keep the speed constant and accurate.

Direct Control Free-Floating Subchassis.
Specially designed to give Philips Direct Control turntables superb acoustic and mechanical isolation. To cushion the platter, the tonearm - and protect your valuable records - from unexpected jolts, shocks and knocks. And to keep the rumble remarkably low.

Direct Control - Total Turntable Design
But Philips doesn't stop there. For us Direct Control is more than an exclusive new drive and suspension system - it's a completely new concept in total turntable design. Direct Control is specially designed straight, low mass, tubular aluminum tonearms, with very low friction bearings. To track even your most warped records accurately.

Direct Control Electronic Features.
Direct Control means reliable electronic touch switches for silent, vibration-free operation. Accurate electronic pitch controls. Digital and LED indicators to monitor platter speed and identify functions. And photo-electronic sensor to initiate the automatic tonearm return.

Direct Control Record protection
Philips even built in an accurate stylus pressure gauge, to keep the pressure off your valuable record collection. Nobody ever thought of that before. But philips thinks of everything.

EPI A-70 loudspeaker

"The EPI A70 is a small and inexpensive two-way "mini-bookshelf' speaker system. It has a 6-inch acoustic-suspension woofer crossing over at 1,800 Hz to a 1-inch inverted-dome tweeter (similar to the tweeters used in other EPI speakers for many years). The nominal system impedance is 4 ohms, and it is rated to handle 50 watts input for 8 hours in accordance with EIA Standard RS-426A. The recommended minimum amplifier power is 15 watts per channel.
The A70 has no level or balance controls. The insulated spring-loaded input connectors are recessed into the rear of the cabinet. Removing the black grille-cloth assembly (whose frame is retained by plastic pegs on the cabinet) reveals the drivers, with the tweeter just above the woofer and slightly to its right. The wooden cabinet is veneered in wood-grain vinyl."

Sony ST-J 88B tuner

The Sony ST-J88B is a quartz-locked frequency synthesized FM stereo tuner that just happens to be one of the very finest FM tuners we seen in years. It is probably the precursor of what to expect in the next generation of precision FM tuners, for the ST-J88B is, in fact, the next generation. The sound quality is exceptional, low frequency overload characteristics for more then 100% transmitter modulation usually a problem in synthesized tuners, is similiarly exceptional. Dual IF selectivity-normal (wide) and narrow is provided. Unlike the usual dual selectivity which is fair (wide) and very good (narrow), this tuner's selectivity is very good and outstanding; in the narrow mode we received full band of signals on alternate spacing, hearing many signals we did not even know existed (they are generally buried under alternate channel interference). The frequency readout is a digital display, tuning is in standard USA increments of 200 kHz. Seven memories are provided which remember the frequency, desired selectivity, muting on or aff, and auto stereo or mono mode.  Labels for every frequency which can be slipped behind the bezel above each memory selector, are provided. Other features include a signal strength indicator directly calibrated in dBf (received signal strength). There is no tuning device because the frequency synthesizer is always precisely on the station frequency. There are three tuning modes: Automatic - the FM band is scanned until a signal is received.  Manual - frequency can be changed rapidly or stepped on channel at a time. Memory - pressing one of seven buttons selects a preprogrammed frequency and all its operating conditions. The memories are non-volatile 9remembers programming) as long as the power cord is connected.

Pioneer PL-2 turntable

A poorly-engineered direct-drive turntable is inferior to a well-engineered belt-drive turntable - that's the axiom we have believed in and followed over the years. A prime example is the PL-2 belt-drive turntable. For its price and performance, it beats any competitive model, belt or direct driven, hands downs.
The belt-drive system of the PL-2 is an updated version that provides all the necessary torque and accurate speed control. A finely polished elastic belt is driven by a Pioneer DC motor. The motor assures smooth platter rotation, while the belt absorbsfinally all traces of vibration while powerfully transmitting motive power from the motor to the platter.
Where the PL-2 differs from the conventional belt-drive model is its Stable Hanging Rotor, a kind of cup fitted to the shaft under the platter. It gives the platter a stabilizing force that keeps the platter steady as it revolves, reducing potential platter wobble.

Giving the Pl-2 aa distinctive look is a straight low-mass PG tone arm. Since it is insensitive to resonance and hence to warps and eccentricities of records, it tracks even the most difficult-to-follow record grooves easily. The arm combines high tracking ability with high sensitivity to permit the use of any cartridge, whatever its compliance or operating principle.
Like all Pioneer turntables, the Coaxial Suspension system protects the arm, cartridge and records from acoustic feedback. And that's the reason why the Pl-2 boats a high Signal-to-Noise ratio of 68 dB.
The PL-2 is an auto-return model. At the end of play, the arm automatically returns to its rest and shuts the power off. Operaation couldn,t be simpler; There's just one control - for speed selection - on the slanted front edge of the turntable.

Onkyo TX-7000 receiver

The Onkyo TX-7000 Quartz-Locked AM/FM Stereo Receiver is an outstanding example. Both its power amplifier and FM sections are rich with important new design concepts.
The TX-7000's power amplifier provides two major innovations never before present in a stereo receiver. The first is called Super-Servo and it totally eliminates the sonic "ghost signals" common to DC power amplifiers. As a result, each instrument and voice sounds purer and more individually real regardless of volume level. Perhaps for the first time, you'll experience stereo with true depth, spaciousness, and a remarkably discernable third dimension. The second innovation is Linear-Switching which lets us provide Class A amplifier sound quality with Class B power efficiency. Crossover distortion is significantly reduced. And output power is very highly efficient, 90 watts per channel with no mote than 0,02% T.H.D.
The TX-7000's FM section is also clearly superior, picking up weak stations noiselessly and strong stations without distortion.
A unique Human Touch Sensor automatically controls the Quartz-Locked system for more reliable and convenient operaation, releasing the system instantly when it senses your touch on the tuning knob engaging it again as your fingers leave the knob. Special circuits also monitor both channels detecting and cencelling out sound distorting FM signal noise. Other circuits cancel out appliance noise. Digital FM readout, separate bass, mid and treble controls, 2-way tape dubbing facilities, and dozens of other important features are all found in the TX-7000. and the TX-7000 is just one of four new receivers from Onkyo Hear "the secret of Onkyo" hear receivers so advanced, they transcend mere technology.

The JVC R-S33 is an AM FM stereo receiver FTC rated for 8 Ω at 27 watts RMS (per channel, 20-20,000 Hz at 0,03% T.H.D.) one of the primary features is JVC's SEA Graphic Equalizer, which provides ±12 dB equalization at five center frequencies: 40; 250; 1,000; 5,000; 15,000 Hz. The SEA can also be programmed to equalize the signal to the tape recorders.  One of two tape inputs is a "selected input" it could just as easily be called an auxiliary input. The switching arrangement for this tape, however, permits automatic dubbing to the second recorder. LED indicators are used for a stereo beacon, left and right output power indicators, FM center channel tuning, and Am  FM signal strength (AM tuning). The output power indicators have eight steps calibrated for 0,03 to 40 watts into 8 ohms. The output power required to illuminate any step was within ±10% of the indicated value. The frequency response of the indicators was visually flat from 20 to 20,000 Hz. The FM center channel indicator is what has become a more or less standard three-position indicator; a green LED flanked by red LEDs, with center of channel. Except for the tuning knob, all controls are the linear 9slider) type. An output hold-off prevents power supply turn-on transients from being fed to the speakers.

Only JVC gives you both Super-A amplification and graphic equalization. You'll hear Super -A as pure, natural sound. Violins, cimbals, voices and other complex, delicate sounds are smooth and airy. That's because Super-A does away with most of the measurable switching and crossover distortion a source of harshness in some conventional Class-AB receivers.
At the same time, you'll get plenty of power. The R-S33 shown here gives you 30 watts per channel minimum RMS into 8 ohms, from 20-20,000 Hz , with no more than 0,007% Total Harmonic Distortion. A regular Class-A amplifier with this kind of power would be heavy and expensive. But because it doesn't require high idling currents, the R-S33 costs and weighs about the same as a conventional receiver.
Even the most sophisticated amplifier can't correct cartridge peaks, speaker roll-off or room acoustic. Neither can it accommodate your changing tastes in sound as you take off Beethoven and put on disco. That's where JVC's 5-band SEA graphic equalizer comes in. With independent controls at 40 Hz , 250 Hz , 1 kHz, 5 kHz and 15 kHz, it lets you extend the deep bass without creating boominess. Mellow out a voice without cutting the highs. Add brightness to the extreme highs and more.
With all this, the R-S33 has plenty of other features to recommend it; direct-coupling, a sensitive tuner section with linear-phase IF filters, two tape monitors with equalizer and dubbing facilities, LED power meters, and JVC's triple power protection system.
