JVC KD-55 cassette tape deck

Stereo Cassette Deck

This model is the best buy in JVC's line of high-performing hi-fi cassette decks. Its basic parameters are impressive: Frequency Response from 30 to 16,000 Hz with Chrome, wow/flutter of 0,15% (DIN 45 500) and Signal-to-Noise Ratio of better than 56 dB (ANRS off). If you're shopping for a medium-priced, high-performance deck, the KD-55 is a likely candidate for your stereo system.

Accurate Tape Transport

Like more expensive JVC cassette decks, the KD-55 employs a precision frequency generator (FG) servomotor to drive its capstan and reels in the advanced JVC drive configuration. The FG motor is renowned for its rotational accuracy independent of temperature changes, and simplified and advanced system has dramatically improved the stability and reliability of JVC cassette decks. Other KD-55 features to reduce wow and flutter include a large 80 mm -in-diameter dynamically balanced fly-wheel and a capstan shaft precision ground to a roundness of 0,1 µ.

Flattest Response from Any Tape

To solve the problem caused by improper bias and equalization, JVC has equipped the KD-55 with two 3-positioned tape switches - one for bias setting and the other for equalization. By properly adjusting these switches, you can get a natural and flat response from any type of tape, whether you prefer ferric, chrome or ferrochrome types. Another JVC feature included in the medium-priced KD-55 is a Recording Equalizer Switch which allows you to fine-adjust the high frequency response of your deck to compensate for variable tape sensitivities.

Easy One-Touch Recording Level Setting

You can set recording levels simply by pushing the Record button. On decks without this facility, you would have to push the Pause button and then the Record and Play buttons together

Features for Wider Dynamic Range

Super ANRS (Automatic Noise Reduction System) is a JVC exclusive that makes tape hiss virtually inaudible. And in addition to eliminating high-frequency noises during "silent" periods, the Super ANRS expands your deck's high-frequency dynamic range; high hats and tambourines, for example, won't sound cramped or distorted. Also, because the Super ANRS circuit is contained in an IC (Integrated Circuit), its long-term reliability is assured. Indeed, with the JVC combination of Super ANRS, a 5-LED Peak Indicator and large VU meters, you can produce undistorted, professional quality recordings instantly.

Unparalleled Ease of Operation

Three features dramatically enhance the ease of operation of the KD-55. one is the JVC-exclusive Gear/Oil-Damped Cassette Lid; it assures smooth, noise-less lid movement. The second is the unique Automatic Input Selector. With it selection priority is given first to Mic, then DIN and then Line inputs; you enjoy recording of a high Signal-to-Noise Ratio. Finally, the Output Volume Control lets you adjust the deck's output level with that of a tuner, etc.

Unison Research P70 amplifier

Fully balanced dual mono valves amplifier in Push-Pull

Designing the P70 has required about one year of work. The very first prototype has been developed in 2006, and it immediately showed all the critical elements related with this kind of design. It took time to find all the electronic solutions that have lead to the current circuitry.

The P70 is now an amplifier capable of delivering more than 70 W per channel into a 6   load, with Total Harmonic Distortion lower than 0,2% over the whole audio band. Its performances are comparable to those of a good single ended amplifier.

Structure of P70

The amplifier is laid out in dual mono configuration. Both the amplifier stages and the power supply circuits are completely independent. The signal path in the amplifier is fully balanced from the input through the output. This means that the signal at the output terminals is balanced with respect to the amplifier ground.

The P70 has four line inputs. All of them can be balanced or unbalanced, an external switch allows the selection. The volume potentiometer is a four sections motorised Alps blue series potentiometer. The selection of the channel is performed by four high quality relè.

All the operations of the amplifier, included the safety functions, are controlled by a microprocessor to ensure maximum reliability and intuitive user interface.

The amplifier itself is constituted by an input stage featuring two double triodes ECC83 and one double triode ECC82, and a power stage with two KT88 per channel.

The output transformer has been custom designed by Unison Research and ensure a bandwidth of more than 30 kHz at full power.

The preamplifier is constituted by a double differential pair in an original configuration. The two differential stages are DC coupled and allow to reach the needed gain. They are followed by a couple of cathode followers, again DC coupled, which guarantee the low output impedance required. The power supply for the whole preamplifier stage has a very high voltage, around 600 V.

The input stage has a local feedback, characterised by different feedback factors for the bias component and the signal. The two different values are set keeping into account the different need for precision on the value of the bias and of the signal.

The importance of a stable controlled bias in the amplifier is due first of all to the choice of the DC coupling between the stages and also to the need to allow the same signal excursion along the paths of the balanced signal.

The circuit we have designed amplifiers signals up to 200 V p-p. conversely, the feedback factor affecting the signal has been kept to the lowest possible value.

Sansui FR-4060 turntable

Electronic Automatic Transcription Turntable

Stereo purists who still claim only a manually-operated turntable can faithfully reproduce disc recordings without strain have some catching up to do. For here is a turntable - a fully automated transcription turntable - which performs with the ease and stress-free operation of a first-class manual but has the convenience and practicality of an automatic as well. The Sansui FR-4060 very efficiently eliminates the one major disadvantage of the complicated :changer-type" turntable by employing a non-mechanical, purely electric device, the galvano-magnetic detection mechanism, to detect the end of a record and prepare the tonearm for automatic operation. It makes it possible for the tonearm to ride completely free of stress-producing mechanical linkage systems until it is time for the automatic lead-in, return, repeat or cut operations to take over. In this way, the stylus is protected from distortion-producing lateral thrust, your records are safeguarded just as they would be on a manual, and since the tonearm is free, it can be moved to any part of the record manually, even during automatic play.

The Frequency Response-4060 features an unusually sensitive S-shaped tonearm, a newly developed Sansui SV27 magnetic cartridge with superb tonal characteristics, a special low-capacitance output cable, floating-mount base and platter design and many other original Sansui quality details. It is also fitted with a connection socket for the Sansui SRC-6 control unit (optional) for full remote-control of all automatic functions.

Those stereo purists who maintain that a manual turntable is the epitome of perfection have only to check out the FR-4060. by adding the convenience of automatic operation to one of the finest precision manuals ever created. Garrard GT15 turntable

The GT15 incorporates the essential design elements of the most expensive turntables  - Delglide automation, ultra-light tonearm and Synchro-Lab motor. The discerning shopper will recognize ia at once as a sensible component for fine music systems. To be sure, there will be many music lovers who will purchase the GT15 because of its surprisingly low price. These buyers are in for a pleasant surprise. Their modest investment will return pleasurable, high performance dividends for years to come.

The tonearm

It weighs a remarkable 10 grams. And this ultra-low mass arm rides on jewel bearings to ensure low friction, faultless tracking. Stylus pressure is set by an adjustable calibrated counterweight. The GT15 tonearm tracks effortlessly, even across a warped record, because its low mass enables it to respond readily to abrupt vertical motions. Remember, the greater the mass of a tonearm, the harder it is to stop its motion and reverse it.

The motor

Another version of the time-tested, dependable Garrard Synchro-Lab unit. Just as in the higher priced GT25, the motor consists of two sections. One section starts platter rotation with a powerful thrust the moment the "start" control is used. The other section maintains absolutely steady speed despite the changes always taking place in your voltage supply at home.

The platter

Heavy lathe-turned aluminum for uniform density and balance. The platter is isolated from the motor by a precision-ground flexible belt.

The controls

Like all the models in the GT series, GT15 provides manual single play, automatic single play, automatic multiple play and automatic repeat play. Its controls are sensibly grouped and easy to operate - the feather touch "start" button is just one example.

The belt-driven GT15 employs the patented Delglide Automatic System, gentle cueing, two point record support, precise anti-skating control and a hand some base and hinged dust cover. Its reliability is underscored by a 3 year limited warranty including parts and labor. It's good turntable to start with, and as your music system grows in sophistication you'll find it's a good one to stay with.

Garrard GT12 turntable

The GT12 turntable is an excellent example of performance, features and reliability at a cost which can only be described as a astonishingly low.

The tonearm

It is critical that a cartridge be housed in a low mass tonearm so that the stylus can freely trace the complex signals in the record groove with accuracy. The S-shaped, gimbal supported tonearm has an incredibly low mass of 7 grams. On other comparably priced turntable approaches this remarkable specification.

The GT12 is available with a high quality , factory installed magnetic cartridge, or your dealer can recommend one based on your individual listening preferences.

The motor

Garrard tested many motor designs before selecting the 4-pole induction unit incorporated in the GT12. its characteristics include low vibration, high torque and steady speed. Moreover, the entire motor is isolated from the chassis by special rubber bushings to further reduce the possibility of vibration in any critical area involving record play.

The platter

The gracefully tapered platter is designed like those on many professional turntables. It is constructed of heavy duty steel, effectively shielding the cartridge from stray hum fields. The platter is rotated by a precision-ground belt, isolating it from any possible motor vibrations. The result is specifications that clearly stamp the GT12 as a turntable capable of true high fidelity sound reproduction.

Delglide and more

The GT12 incorporates the Delglide system for full automation, the very same system employed in Garrard's most expensive models. It is quiet, smooth and utterly reliable. With Delglide, your records are handled with the gentleness they deserve. Located directly under the tonearm, it eliminates cumbersome linkages, and controls the tonearm by efficient, precise rotary action.

The GT12 also incorporates a damped cueing control precise anti-skating and a handsome base and dust cover.

Tannoy Caernarvon loudspeakers

Time Compensated Dual Concentric Loudspeaker System

Superb stereo sound  has always been a feature of the Tannoy Dual Concentric Loudspeaker. Now the latest Time Compensated Dual Concentric System take another step closer to the real thing

Designed to bring the advantages of the new Dual Concentric System to smaller living areas, the Caernarvon uses a 254 mm (10") version of the Dual Concentric in a compact Floor standing enclosure. The Two-Speakers-in-One" Dual Concentric unit provides a single axis for the generation of both high and low frequency sounds. The complementary Time Compensated crossover produces a single sound source at one point on that axis.

The Caernarvon Dual Concentric therefore, eliminates time delay distortion created by more conventional loudspeakers. A much improved stereo image results, which - due to the wider dispersion of the Dual Concentric - is more accurate over a wider area.

Careful design and tuning of the Caernarvon cabinet ensures accurate reproduction of lower frequencies to give realistic generation of bass fundamentals. The overall dimensions, however, are small enough to obtain the best acoustic ; match with even quite compact rooms.

The Caernarvon is rigidly constructed from lock - mitred high density particle board, with cross-bracing and bitumen damping of internal panels to increase strength and reduce resonance.

All outer surfaces are veneered in real walnut, and the front baffle has an original cork finish, so that the Caernarvon looks as good with the grille removed. A specially woven Oatmeal cloth is used on the grille, which is removable in three parts.

Removing the centre section of the grille gives access to the high frequency response controls, which can shape the acoustic output of the Caernarvon to suit your particular room characteristics.

Tannoy Arundel loudspeakers

Time Compensated Dual Concentric Loudspeaker System

Superb stereo sound  has always been a feature of the Tannoy Dual Concentric Loudspeaker. Now the latest Time Compensated Dual Concentric System take another step closer to the real thing

The Dual Concentric drive unit in the Arundel combines our remarkable high frequency compression driver with a 380 mm (15") bass radiator, to provide one axis along which both high and low frequency sounds are generated

Our unique new Time Compensated crossover with adjustable high frequency response, now aligns these sources at one single point on the axis.

The result is elimination of time delay distortion, with stereo images precisely located in time and space.

The original proportions of the Arundel are a result of our new research to find the optimum internal volume for realistic bass response, with cabinet dimensions that provide real improvements nin sound quality.

The narrower front baffle reduces resonance by giving a more rigid mounting for the drive unit, while the deep cabinet reduces unwanted sound reflections from the rear of the loudspeaker.

The result is a cleaner, more accurate sound for your continued listening pleasure.

The elegant styling of the Arundel has been chosen to compliment both the loudspeaker and your home. Superbly finished, selected real walnut veneers are used on the outer surfaces of the cabinet, with a warm, hand-laid cork finish to the front baffle.

Completing the distinctive appearance of the Arundel is the three-piece detachable grille, covered in acoustically transparent Oatmeal cloth specially woven for Tannoy from fine Swiss yarn.

Tannoy Balmoral loudspeakers

Time Compensated Dual Concentric Loudspeaker System

Superb stereo sound has always been a feature of the Tannoy Dual Concentric Loudspeaker. Now the latest Time Compensated Dual Concentric System take another step closer to the real thing

The Balmoral uses our 305 (12') diameter Dual Concentric drive unit, where the high frequency compression driver is mounted behind the centre of the bass-cone.. Our new Time Compensated crossover uses unique sophisticated circuity to align the high and low frequency sound sources at one point on their common axis.

Precise stereo images are, therefore, created by the Balmoral, a phase coherent Loudspeaker System which eliminates time delay distortion irrespective of you listening position.

Tannoy Loudspeakers are designed as complete systems, and so we have devoted our research to the cabinet as well as to the electronics. The subtle proportions of the Balmoral are no stylist's whim. Research has dictated these dimensions as providing the best acoustic match for our 305 mm Dual Concentric. The shape has also enabled us to mount the drive unit higher, end an reduce the colouration produced when low frequencies interact with the floor.

We use high density particle board with lock-mitre construction for greater strength, and employ rigid cross-bracing and heavy bitumen damping to reduce spurious resonances.

Unlike some loudspeakers the Balmoral will not look out of place in your home. Our specially woven grille cloth and real walnut veneers have been designed to co-ordinate well with any decor. Removing the three piece grille reveals an original styling feature - a handmade cork finished baffle with gold trims.

We realize that the acoustic characteristics of your room can sometimes affect the sound quality. We have, therefore, provided two controls, an a panel showing accurate representations of their effects, to enable you to alter the high frequency response of the Balmoral to suit your environment.
