What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Cambridge Alva TT turntable

Rather than go for a Belt Drive system with the ALVA TT, we opted for a medium-torque Direct Drive. Over time, the elastic used on a Belt Drive turntable can stretch and will need to be replaced. As a result of this wear, Belt Drive turntables traditionally have a less accurate playback speed than their Direct Drive cousins. This isn’t a problem on the ALVA TT – it has just 0.06% Wow and Flutter. This means a far better pitch stability – particularly during longer, more sustained musical notes.

The Alva TT uses a classic British-made one-piece tonearm. There are no joints, giving it the best possible grounding for the cartridge and offering extremely low friction.
It’s designed to retrieve the maximum amount of sonic detail from the cartridge and therefore your records.

Bluetooth aptX HD liberates your record player from the hi-fi rack. With the freedom to place Alva TT anywhere you like, your records are invited into the lime-light. Your music can be streamed from Alva TT to any Bluetooth receiver at up to 24bit/48kHz Hi-Res, which means you’re guaranteed an authentic vinyl experience, wherever it’s placed.

Cambridge 540A v2

Cambridge 540A v2 - High performance integrated amplifier
For these version 2 models we have been able to further improve the audio quality and make them more powerful through many detailed changes and enhancements developed as a result of our on-going research programme. We have also added some new features, including support for Multi-Room use. All this proprietary engineering is housed within our low resonance, acoustically damped chassis. An Azur Navigator remote control is also provided, giving full remote control of four amplifier in an attractive and easy to use handset.

The 540A V2.0 features a new preamp stage with buffered inputs for lower crosstalk and improved stereo imaging, whilst the headphone output is now provided be a separate Class A headphone driver circuit. The amplifier stage has been revised with new low-noise input transistors, special driver stage PSU regulation, a new voltage amplifier topology and separate current sources for the voltage amplifier and predriver stages. These enhancements to the original circuits all work to elevate the sound quality to a new level. A new heatsink and transformer are employed and the power output is now 60 watts per channel (from 50 wpc on the V1 model).

Cambridge 540C v2

As with previous Azur CD players, the 540C V2.0 make use of a custom Cambridge Audio servo solution and transport, at the heart of which is a VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) circuit which dynamically adjusts in real time the focusing, tracking and output level of the laser for the maximum retrieval of digital information. To ensure the very best performance there are also multiple separate power supplies for the D/A converter circuitry, audio filters, clocks and other stages, as well as extensive use of low impedance film capacitors.
For the Version 2 models, we have significantly upgraded and improved the Digital to Analog stages as well as the anti-aliasing filters for even better sound quality and have added features that allow these products to be used in Custom Install applications. All this proprietary engineering is housed within our low resonance, acoustically damped chassis. An Azur Navigator remote control is also provided, giving full remote control of your CD player in an attractive and easy to use handset.
About the 540C V2.0
The 540C V2.0 now employs a WM8740 24 bit/192 kHz capable Digital to Analog converter from Wolfson Microelectronics. This very high quality part is coupled to a new three pole Double Virtual Earth Balanced filter design for very low noise and distortion. A new toroidal transformer is now fitted giving lower noise and less waveform distortion, for quieter PSU operation. Finally, to allow seamless integration with multi-room entertainment systems, a Control Bus input and output have been fitted, as has an IR emitter input.

EISA 2012-2013 Cambridge Audio Azur 851C - 851A

When is a CD player more than a CD player? When it’s designed to be an outboard D/A converter complete with integral CD drive. This is Cambridge Audio’s Azur 851C, its best player to date and one that combines its most sophisticated DAC design with USB and legacy digital audio inputs. The partnering 851A amplifier is just as slick, employing the latest version of the company’s proprietary Class XD technology to comfortably exceed its 120W specification. So while the 851C DAC/player brings a quiet composure to the party, the 851A is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a muscular amp that grips the speakers and serves up tight, powerful and extended bass. In the 851C and 851A you’re getting cutting-edge technology for substantially less than high-end prices. Add the best speakers you can afford and this two-channel system will deliver a taste of hi-fi heaven.
