What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Fisher DD-280 cassette deck

Fisher Direct Drive … the most technically advanced tape drive system
In the new Fisher DD280 cassette deck, Fisher has replaced the conventional belt-drive system with a high-torque 18-pole brushless, coreless, direct drive DC flywheel motor. The motor shaft is the tape transport capstan itself. The result is a silent, one-piece direct drive system that glides at a stable 360 rpm. Wow and Flutter: are reduced to an incredibly low 0,04%. Gone forever are belt wear problems resulting in speed change, belt breakage and replacement. For long term reliability direct drive is the answer.
Feather touch electronic solenoid controls.
Don't look for "clunky" levers on the DD280. transport functions are actuated by sensitive solenoid electronic switching. IC logic circuitry assures instant, positive action. You can go directly from rewind to fast forward to play, without having to manually stop between functions. LED indicators signal mode of operation.
Metal tape compatibility.
The DD280 is also metal tape compatibile. The new metal particle tapes offer a marked improvement in Signal-to-Noise ratio and dynamic range over previous tape formulation. With its metal EQ and bias settings, plus high performance MX/Ferrite heads, the DD280 produces tapes of stunning accuracy. With metal tape, the DD280 delivers an impressive frequency response of 30 Hz - 20 kHz.
Low in profile. And high on features
The low-profile DD280 has everything you'd expect in a professional-quality cassette deck. Calibrated input level controls. Dolby Noise Reduction. Large scale dual-range VU meters. Peak level LED indicators and more.
It's what you'd expect from the new Fisher.
Fisher invented high fidelity from many years, and never stopped moving ahead. The new DD280 is a perfect example. Part of the new Fisher. Where the only thing about us that's old is our dedication to quality and craftsmanship.

Genesis 700 speakers

Genesis 700 Loudspeaker features:
The Genesis 700 is based on much of the same technology as found in Genesis Ireference System
Exceptional dynamic range and off-axis response
1,5" thick MDF front baffle and 1" thick MDF sides with heavy internal bracking
Newly-designed, dual 6,5" shielded metal-cone woofers
Twin 1" shielded circular-ribbon tweeters
Unique 4thorder Linkwitz-Riley phase-correct crossover loaded with custom genesis-designed parts
Designed to be equally at home in pure audio or home theater systems
Users adjustable music/video bass contour and tweeter level controls

The 700 incorporates two technologically-advanced and different driver designs to create its sonic magic. The bass and middle frequencies are handled by two shielded, custon-designed 6,5" long-throw metal-cone woofers, and the higher frequencies are reproduced by a shielded version of our famous 1" circular-ribbon tweeter, one in front and one in the rear.
The 700 can be used in either a horizontal position as a center channel,, or in a vertical mounting on either stands or wall mounts as the front, rear or main channels in a music or home theater system.
The crossover is a two-way, 4th order, Linkwitz-Riley phase-correct design that incorporates custom-wound Genesis capacitors, oxygen-free copper inductors and the finest parts available.
The design, quality of materials, and fit of the cabinet are critical to the performance of any loudspeaker. The 700 is unique in both its performance and its construction. Built from heavily-braced 1'-thick MDF for the sides, a 1,5" thick front baffle, and covered in either black ash or South American rosewood, the 700 can truly lay claim to a no-compromise approach.
Beacuse every room and listening situation is different it is not possible to design a loudspeaker that is perfect for every application. Knowing this, Genesis has continued in our tradition of offering you unmatched flexibility. In the rear of the 700, there are two controls, one for the tweeter level and one for music or video. The tweeter level control allows you to adjust the volume of the tweeter to perfectly match your tastes and your system. The music/video switch in the rear of the 700 allows the bass contour to be optimized for either application.

The Genesis 700 has exceptional dynamic range for a speaker of its size. It is capable of easily handling svral hundred watts of power and producing SPL levels approaching that of live music.
With a Frequency Response essentially flat from 48 Hz to 32 kHz, the 700 is a full-range loudspeaker for all but the lowest frequencies which, if necessary, can be augmented with the addition of a Genesis 900 subwoofer.

One of the most critical aspect of a loudspeaker's performance is the ability to maintain a flat energy response off-axis because we typically listen off-axis. The fact that a speaker is flat (in its acoustic energy output) on-axis is an attribute, but it is not as critical as its off-axis response. Very few loudspeakers ever achieve anything close the the level of smooth off-axis performance built into the 700. in fact, the off axis response of the 700 is so good it is often hard to tell where the speakers are in the room.

Performance
FM Tuner Section
Full limiting measured 6 µV. The monophonic high fidelity sensitivity (60 dB quieting) measured 13 µV. The stereo 55 dB quieting high fidelity sensitivity could not be measured because unusually high pilot and MPX subcarrier leakage blocked the test equipment at -38 dB. Full mute release was attained with 3 µV.
The stereo pilot and subcarrier leakthrough is high and requires the use of an MPX filter when recording with Dolby. This is no problem since all Dolby noise rduction systems have the MPX filter; if yours is switchable make certain it is switched in.
At standard test level the stereo frequency response measured +0,5/-0,4 dB from 20 to 15,000 Hz. Monophonic distortion measured 0,18% T.H.D.; stereo distortion was 0,35% T.H.D.. The Signal-to-Noise ratio measured 75 dB . Stereo separation was +40 dB. And selectivity was is good.
AM Tuner performance - background noise level was higher than average.
Amplifier Section performance
The power output per channel at the clipping level with both channels driven 20 to 20,000 Hz into 8 ohms measured 43 watts RMS. The Frequency Response at 43 watts into 8 ohms measured +0/-0,6 dB from 20 to 20,000 Hz  at a distortion no higher than 0,065% T.H.D. at any frequency.
The tone control range measured +11/-12 dB at 50 Hz ; ±10 dB at 10,000 Hz
The magnetic input hum and noise measured -58 dB; stereo separation was into the noise level.
The output power meters are broadly calibrated - 1; 10; 100 watts, etc - and are reasonably accurate at the calibration marks. The Frequency Response of the meters is essentially "flat" 20 to 20,000 Hz, and can be relied on for tests if the reference is one of the fast rise and a slow decay, providing a form of semipeak indication.
