Krell LAT-1 loudspeakers

The Krell Lossless Acoustic Transducer (LAT) Series are the first loudspeakers engineered to Krell’s exacting standards. They are exceptional in their ability to provide accurate, high-powered reproduction without the distortions and information loss that occur in conventional loudspeaker designs.

The Krell LAT Series features massive aluminum construction. (The LAT-1 weighs approximately 250 lb.) The enclosures range from 0.75 to 1.5 inches in wall thickness. Internal midrange/tweeter sub-enclosures, where present, are also constructed of aluminum at least 1/4-inch thick. The cross-sectional shape of the enclosure is determined by a custom aluminum extrusion, the curvature of which is designed to absolutely minimize the effects of internal standing waves and external high-frequency diffraction

Such extensive use of aluminum may seem extravagant, but the sonic benefits are undeniable. Other than concrete and lead, which are not practical choices, aluminum possesses the ideal combination of structural rigidity and resonance damping characteristics. Within the audio passband, Krell LAT cabinets are sonically inert something that cannot be said about any wood or wood derivative

There is nothing “mystical” about the design of the Krell Lossless Acoustic Transducer. The goal was to design a mathematically correct loudspeaker that neither took anything away from nor added anything superfluous to the audio signal. Achieving that goal, nevertheless, took Krell down an engineering path never before travelled in the industry. The sound is pure Krell—as explosive, delicate, and immediate as music itself. And it’s exactly what you’d expect of Krell’s first loudspeaker system


The development of the Krell Lossless Acoustic Transducer LAT-1 was, at once, necessitated and made possible by the Krell CAST™—Current Audio Signal Transmission—technology. The LAT-1 is uniquely capable of reproducing the pure, exceptionally high resolution, wide-bandwidth signal delivered by Krell CAST components.

Separate crossover network assemblies are used for each driver complement (low, mid, and high). All circuitry is on 1/8-inch thick glass epoxy circuit boards with 4 oz. copper traces, ensuring low microphonics, low resistance, low inductance, and high current handling. 1st-order network at 300 Hz preserves transient response; 3rd-order Butterworth network at 2.9 kHz optimizes power response. Network inductors are all air-core pure copper designs, the largest of which is formed of 10-gauge wire, measuring 5 inches in diameter. Individually potted polypropylene WIMA capacitors are used in parallel to minimize inductance and resistance, and improve current handling. System impedance curve is extremely smooth, and sensitivity is a high 91 dB SPL at 1 meter with 1 W input. Custom gold-plated brass binding post terminals assure optimum signal transfer.


1-inch (25 mm) tweeter delivers flat response to 50 kHz. Central waveguide optimizes dispersion characteristics.
53/4-inch (15 cm) midrange features an advanced multifaceted cone that eliminates colorations induced by resonance modes. A proprietary suspension and extended voice coil assure extremely linear performance. D’Appolito midrange/tweeter configuration places the acoustic center at ear level and ensures pinpoint-accurate stereo imaging.
Custom-designed 8-inch (21 cm) woofer has extremely low free air resonance, a composite carbon fiber cone, and a butyl surround. The long-excursion design (1-inch peak to peak) is optimized for vented cabinet performance. Both the midrange and woofer employ cast magnesium-aluminum frames and are video shielded

Krell LAT-2 loudspeakers

KRELL LAT-2
2-way system, based on the same design principles that distinguish the Krell Lossless Acoustic Transducer concept. Sophisticated engineering and uncompromised construction result in dynamic, transparent, uncannily accurate sound reproduction rarely achieved in any speaker, regardless of size or the number of drivers.
The LAT-2's vented cabinet features two rear bass ports, precisely dimensioned and positioned with respect to the woofer to eliminate turbulence while providing the correct acoustic loading.
2nd-order Bessel crossover preserves phase coherence and optimizes power response. The optional stands are constructed from a carbon fiber composite and are acoustically matched to the LAT-2

The 7-inch (180 mm) mid-bass drive unit features the same ,multifaceted cone construction  and proprietary suspension design as the midrange units in the LAT-1. This advanced driver design simultaneously ensures extraordinary bass reproduction and midrange accuracy.


The tweeter is identical to the unit used in the LAT-1

Krell KAV-300iL amplifier

Integrated Amplifier

The Krell KAV-300iL integrated amplifier is power and control in essential form. Delivering exceptionally musical sound reproduction and an operational elegance matched by few components at any price, the KEV-300iL, is an ideal component for music enthusiasts seeking quality, performance, and convenience.

With power output of 200 Watts per channel into 8   and 400 Watts per channel into 4 , the KAV-300iL has tremendous power reserves and provides high dynamic headroom. Even the most demanding source material is thus reproduced with decided authority and transparency.

The preamplifier section features Krell's advanced Class A, direct-coupled circuitry for superbly detailed music reproduction. Preamp circuits are powered by a dedicated supply with discrete voltage regulators.

The power amplifier section incorporates proprietary Krell driver and output transistors. 12 devices per channel provide enormous output current capability - far beyond that of typical integrated amplifiers.

The gain stages use Krell Current Mode discrete Class A, direct-coupled, fully complementary circuitry, further ensuring a level of reproduction quality normally associated only with the most expensive separate components.

Both balanced and single-ended inputs are provided, and Krell's Theater Throughput mode simplifies integration into home theater systems. Krell KAV-280cd player

Compact Disc Player

Krell FPB-200C power amplifier


Power is a vital key to accurate sound reproduction. But power alone provides but a translucent window; it often dulls our aural perception. For true transparency - the exciting immediacy that conveys both the shudder and the shimmer of today's best sources - power and finesse must go hand in hand.

Krell FPB-300C power amplifier


Full Power Balanced amplifirs can be configurated to accommodate any sophisticated music or home theater system and can be operated by an optional remote control through the remote control of other Krell components.
The Full Power balanced series of amplifiersconsist of three stereo amplifiers, the FPB 200C; 300C; 600C and three nonaural amplifiers , the FPB 250Mc; 350Mc; 650Mc. Installation, connection, and operation of all amplifiers in the Full Power balanced series are identical; however, a pair of Full Power Balanced Monaural amplifier are required for stereo operation.

Krell Current Audio Signal Transmission  - CAST
A propietary Krell circuit technology for coneccting analog components, in which the audio waveform is transmitted between components in the current rather than voltage domain. The speed and bandwidth provided by Krell CAST yields accurate, realistic music reproduction. Krell components connected via CAST perform as if they are all part of a single circuit.

A symmetrical input or output circuit that has equal impedance from both input terminals to a common ground reference point. The industry standard for profeassional and sound recording installations, balanced connections have 6 dB more gain than single-ended connections and allow the use of long interconnected cables. Balanced connections are completely immune to induced noise from the system or the environment.

A two-wire input or output circuit. Use care when using single-ended connections as the ground connection is made last and broken first. Turn the system off prior to making or breaking single-ended connections. Single-ended connections are not recommended for connections requiring long cable runs.

Krell CD-DSP


Integrated Compact Disc player The Krell CD-DSP is the first integrated compact disc player to combine an updateable software-based processor with a high-end CD transport. The processor and transport are coupled to extremely flexibleinput and output  sections, creating a product of unique function and value. Audiophiles can now gain the advanced performance capabilities of separate components in a single unit.

Software-based Processing
The CD-DSP processor uses a 16 times oversampling version of our Waveform Duplicator software, which is run on a Motorola DSP-56001 digital signal processor. The extraordinary resolution of fine detail and accuracy of waveform reconstruction achieved is not possible by other methods. The processor output is routed to a Class A balanced analog output stage. The result is a sonic quality distinguished by robust dynamic impact, extended frequency response and three dimensional imaging.

The Waveform Duplicator software is loaded into socket-mounted Eprom chips to allow inexpensive software updates in the future .

Transport and Operational Features
The CD-DSP is built around the CDM-1 MK II Philips finest transport for CD player applications system absorbs extraneous vibrations that might interfere with data recovery from the disc.
