What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Celestion Ditton 15XR

The completely new Ditton 15XR is a sophisticated bookshelf loudspeaker system using all new components but drawing on the valuable experience gained with the world renowed Ditton 15. the design of "compact" or bookshelf loudspeakers demands the solution of special problems if proper bass reproduction is to be obtained. With the introduction of the highly successful Ditton 15, Celestion perfected a principle now universally known as the ABR. This device has a rigid diaphragm with linear roll neoprene suspension. Its motional mass is precisely calculated and acoustically coupled within the hermetically sealed enclosure. When signals are applied to the main bass drive unit the tuning is such that the ABR is in phase through a frequency band in the region of 60 Hz down to 30 Hz. Bass frequencies are thus shared between the main and auxiliaty diaphragms.
That the ABR confers substantial benefits perticularly where the enclosure dimensions have been limited, as in the Ditton 15XR, has been endorsed repeatedly by the technical Press. In addition to extending bass response downwards, giving a more realistic musical balance, and intrinsic function of the ABR is to reduce the required excursion of the main bass unit, thereby further reducing harmonic and doppler distortion. Both power handling and efficiency are also improved, resulting in increased dynamic range and therefore greater musical realism.

  1. The latest type HD 1000 tweeter designed and produced by Celestion to the highest standards, the frequency range of this unit is from 2,5 kHz to 28 kHz. The domed diaphragm ensures good dispersion and low distortion.
  1. Anechoic cellular foam wedge and lining absorbs unwanted acoustic energy within the enclosure and prevents the formation of standing waves which would be detrimental to the loudspeaker performance.
  1. New NS8 (8") bass midrange drive unit with specially plasticized fibre cone to prevent resonsnces whilst the neoprene roll front suspension and concentric rear suspension permits the 1-inch long coil the large movements essential for the correct reproduction of low bass notes, with minimal distortion. A powerful 51,000 Maxwells (11,000 Gauss) magnet system weighing 1,1 kg controls these excursions, and all the components are housed in a new pressed steel plated chassis.
  1. Units mounted flush to eliminate diffraction effects and tunnel resonances; covered by acoustically transparent grille cloth for maximum presence.
  1. ABR (Auxiliary Bass Radiator) New 8" unit with front neoprene roll suspension and pressed steel plated chassis, developed to work in concert with the bass/midrange unit.

Celestion Ditton 120

The name Celestion has been synonymous with loudspeakers since 1924 ans is today held in high esteem throughout the world by sound engineers and music lovers alike.
The high fidelity loudspeakers detailed  in this article the latest in the famous "Ditton" range and is the  result of extensive research and development carried out in the Celestion laboatories.
Celestion quality is evident throughout the new Ditton 120 and the unrivalled and exclusive Celestion features which have made Celestion "Dittons" world famous are incorporaed into this new system.
The upper register from 3 kHz to 15 kHz is reproduced faithfully by the renowned HF 1300 treble unit, many thousands of which have been supplied to manufactures for inclusion in monitoring systems. This "pressure" type unit is 1½" (38 mm) diameter and has an exceptionally smooth response due to careful attention to phase correction and acoustic damping.  The very low mass of the diaphragm assembly and the high magnetic flux permit transient response ofa high order. The small area of the diaphragm provides an excellent polar radiation pattern and ensures a highly satisfactory stereophonic image.

The middle-bass register is reproduced by a sophisticated unit of very high quality. The diameter is 5" (120 mm) and a linear diaphragm excursion of up to ½" is possible ensuring correct reproduction of bass notes at all volume levels. The diaphragm assembly is controlled by a massive magnet system having a flux of 50,000 Maxwells which ensures high efficiency and optimum damping.
The third radiator is a new version of the exclusive Celestion auxiliary bass radiator now known universally as the ABR. This device ensures improved reproduction of low bass notes even with comparatively small enclosure dimensions. The ABR is operative at the lowest part of the register from 35 Hz to 70 Hz and since the work is shared between the two bass diaphragms efficiency is increased and distortion reduced to a vry low order; in short, the ABR ensures true bass.

The electrical system is integrated by an inductance-capacity frequency dividing network which has been meticulously designed to provide a level response.
The Celestion Ditton 120 reproduces the full audible range and is suitable for connection to virtually all high quality amplifiers. Where cost and size figure the Ditton 120 provides outstanding value and performance. The appearance will please the most fastidious and the smooth and effortless sound quality will delight the musican and connoisseur alike.
The appearance and finish of the 120 enclosure is excellent. By using a single sheet of veneer to completely enclose the four sides of the cabinet there is a joint running of the cabinet there is a joint running along one edge only; conseguently it will look equally good in whatever position it is placed. The rear is neatly finished with connections provided by means of two colour-coded screw terminals.

Celestion Ditton 66

A new loudspeakers of advanced design suitable for stuio use and for home installations of the highest quality.
Even the cabinet's distinctive visual design contributes to your listening enjoyment. Its tall, slender silhouette permits maximum enclosure volume in minimum floor space (only 1.2 square feet), while aligning the upper frequency drivers more directly with the usual listening level.

 Driver units
HF 2000 - dome "pressure" type
MF 500 -  Mid-range dome "pressure" type
Within the cabinet are a superbly matched set of drivers and the Auxiliary Bass Radiator, all aligned on a single vertical axis to minimize diffraction effects. High frequencies are handled by the HF2000 tweeter (specified by the B.B.C. for monitor use).
The mid-range driver is the pressure-dome MD500. And for the bass, a combination of the FC12 bass unit and 12 inch A.B.R. (Auxiliary Bass Radiator) together with the carefully damped enclosure form an acoustic circuit that operates smoothly to frequencies well below 40 Hz.
The crossover has resulted from considerable research and crossover points are at 500 Hz and 5000 Hz, 80 watts maximum. 4 - 8 ohm. This monitor loudspeaker system has an exeptionally wide and flat, frequency respponse. Very low order harmonic and intermodulation distortion. Precise response to transients. Beautifully maintained polar response ensures absenc of unwanted directionall effects and provides a highly satisfactory stereo image throughout the listtening area.
