What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Adcom GFA-565 power amp

Adcom stereo components have a loyal and devoted following, having earned a reputation among audiophiles, engineers and musicians for extraordinary performance at affordable prices. Now Adcom introduces its newest amplifier, the no compromise GFA-565, for those in pursuit of absolute power and sonic perfection, but who prefer not paying a king;s ransom.

The evolution od Adcom's GFA-565

Adcom's new mono GFA-565 evolves from the design of the critically acclaimed GFA-555, greatly extending its capabilities. Representing brute strength, it delivers 300 watts at 8 ohms, 450 watts at 4 ohms and an awesome 850 watts at 2 ohms. most significantly, it will accurately drive even esoteric loudspeakers which present loads as low as 1 ohm.

Inspired by the GFA-555, the new GFA-565's well-regulated, high-current power supply has an enormous reserve capacity to meet tremendous dynamic demands, resulting in distortion free reproduction on a continuous basis.

Why use Two Mono Amplifiers?

The ability to deliver very high power into complex loads is a prereguisite for superior sound reproduction. power supplies capable of delivering the energy necessary for high power, high-current amplifiers are massive. but there are prectical limits to the size and weight of stereo amplifiers designed for home use, as well as heat dissipation and reliability constraints. consequently, the use of two Adcom GFA-565 mono amplifiers offers optimum sound definition, detail and dynamics, satisfying even the most demanding perfectionist.

More Sound. Less Money

Like the GFA-555, the new Adcom GFA-565 sound superior to amplifiers costing two and three times as much. it is so powerful and pure that it may be the last amplifier you ever buy, even if you upgrade your loudspeakers several times over the years. And that makes the GFA-565 an extraordinary bargain considering its exceptional performance.

High-Current Output Stage

More and more of today's high performance loudspeakers exhibit very low impedances and particularly difficult loads. many so-called esoteric amplifiers are incapable of delivering large amounts of undistorted power continuously into these complex loads thereby defeating the objectives of the loudspeaker's design. The GFA-565's highly advanced, triple darlington output stage featuring 20 rugged, discrete output transitors is designed to deliver extremely high-current at low impedances and reactive loads. No protection circuitry or current limiting devices are incorporated which would restrict the delivery of full power output. Protection against short term overloads, short circuits or long term, excessive output is achieved by non-interfering power supply fuses and thermal circuit breakers.

Well regulated, High-Current Power Supply

Advancements in CD technology and the introduction of digital audio tape have created opprtunities to reproduce the full dynamics and psychoacoustic experience of a live musical performance. To realize the full potential of this technology, amplifiers and loudspeakers must be capable of delivering tremendous energy continuously, not just for tiny fractions of a second. The massive power supply of GFA-565, featuring 70,000 microfarads of filter capacitance and a huge 1,25 kVA toroidal power transformer, has enormous reserve power capability. this is a no compromise power supply that eliminates all audible limitations. Hum, vibration and noise, the byproducts of lasser power supplies, have also been reduced to an absolute minimum. For most home applications, the optional variable speed cooling fan is unnecessary, making the GFA-565 a silent performer despite its formidable power.

Instananeous Distortion Alert

A highly accurate LED on the front panel is activated by a unique monitor circuit if any form of distortion - THD, IM, TIM, SID, etc. - exceeds 1 percent. this will provide ample warning that the music system is being operated beyond its design parameters.

Meridian 588 CD player

Meridian is the leader in high-end CD playback.
Since we revolutionised the performance expectations of CD with the MCD-pro in 1984 we have steadily advanced the art of digital audio. Our reputation in the field is further confirmed by the choice of MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing) as the mandated standard for DVD-Audio.
The New Meridian 588, evolved from our famous 508 and award winning 800 CD machineuses a ROM drive for precise recovery of detail. As a result, error correction is ten times more effective. Triple buffer stages provide astonishingly low jitter. The 588 has the highest quality 2-channel output using 192kH224-bit DACs and full RS232 control and status with software upgradeability. The 588 will also play CD-R discs with MP3 data.

Meridian 588
588 uses a precision DVD-ROM drive to read information from the discs using a technology developed for the Meridian 800 Series. This drive’s precise pickup system is optimised for CD and CDR playback.
The data from the disc is checked, corrected and decoded using an extremely powerful digital processing system. Within the data path are three large memory buffers – each one in turn establishing smoother data flow so that the final audio has the lowest possible jitter.
These steps all ensure that you can enjoy the highest quality audio from your discs. Advanced digital and analogue design and construction techniques combine to provide the highest performance. 588 is built using 6-layer PCBs, 7 separate power supplies, the latest surface-mount technology and components which have been carefully selected to optimize und quality.
The 588 operating software has been developed by Meridian and benefits from our vast expertise on CD navigation, playability and sound quality.
In addition to CD the 588 can replay MP3 discs giving the best access to playback longplaying audio collections on a main system. MP3 discs can include personal albums (MP3 files optionally grouped as albums by directory) on a Recordable CD (CD-R).
An RS232 port supports full control of the player and provides for future software updates.

Sound Quality
588 maximizes sound quality by reducing jitter to very low levels. Unlike other players that try to lower jitter by controlling drive vibration, the 588’s triple buffer memory architecture abolishes this problem forever. In 588 the audio is controlled using a precise master oscillator located within the final output section. The result of this sophisticated effort is a clear, open, authoritative sound. The digital output is precision re-clocked.
The stereo analogue output uses 192kHz 24-bit advanced DACs combined with a superb direct-coupled audiophile-standard output amplifier.

Koss CM-1030 loudspeakers

The Koss CM/1030 represents the culmination of theory, technology and engineering experience in loudspeaker design. First, Koss engineers set the parameters for frequency response, efficiency and cabinet size. From these initial specifications, the Koss Theory developed specific design characteristics that include a 10-inch woofer, a mass aligned dual port system,, a parallel midrange system, and both a tweeter and treble tweeter that feature a unique acoustic transformer. And to mesh the system into an unbelievably beautiful entity, the CM/1030 uses a quasi second-orede crossover network. Once you've heard the Koss CM/1030 , we think you'll agree that no 4 bandpass system available today even comes close in performance.

Although much has been attributed to the speed and efficiency of the modern computer, there is little that any computer can accomplish without first having the specific scientific equations and data necessary to achieve specified goals. In the case of the new Koss CM loudspeaker systems, the modern computer allowed Koss engineers to perform the massive and complex audio engineering calculations required in using network synthesis to establish the engineering parameters for all CM systems.

Nevertheless, whereas the computer may have simplified the workload, it was still the genius of electrical and audio engineers and even, in the case of the cabinet designs, the brilliance of structural engineers, that made this remarkable new generation of loudspeaker systems possible.

Monitor Audio R700MD loudspeakers

The R700MD is a classic case of producing a big, dynamic sound from a small enclosure. It utilizes Monitor Audio's unique metal-dome tweeter technology with an advanced polypropylene bass driver. These two drivers have been specially designed to naturally compliment each other, thus minimum cross over elements are required, ensuring maximum efficiency and minimum distortion. The cabinet also incorporates a port at the rear to reinforce the bass response. The cabinet is internally braced and damped with both bituminous pads and acoustic foam with the front baffle made of medite. The result is a very rigid, dead anclosure. The crossover elements are hardwired and hotglued to their housing to further reduce the effects of vibration.
The size and finish of the R700MD elegantly understates the impressive sound that it is capable of achieving. Cabinet construction and woofer design ensure good bass response whilst the unique tweeter produces a sweetness of high-end detail.

Technics SU-8044K amplifier

Technics presents an amp which, while not the absolute highest in power, has plenty of punch especislly for the majority of people who listen to music at less than full power from their amps anyway. And we haven't neglected waveform fidelity, which means that this amp will amplify the input signal while adding or subtracting little or nothing from the waveforms of the original music. So you'll get distortion-free amplificationover a wide and flat frequency range. Plus these great operating conveniences; FL meters to replace conventional output meters, a versatile recording selector, a stable, rugged power supply and advanced NF-type tone controls. The list of features and specs will give you the facts and figures. But the real test of this amp is in the listening.

DC Power Amplifier Helps Preserve Waveform  Fidelity
Waveformfidelity has been greatly enhanced in Technics SU-8044K by the elimination of coupling capacitors not only in the signal path but also in the NFB loop.
The lack of something is offen a defect. But here the absence of capacitors means gain all the way down to 0hz and phase linearity in the bass frequencies. The result, in this DC power amplifier, is waveform fidelity - the accurate reproduction of musical waveforms.

Advanced Power Dynamic Sound
The SU-8044K offers plenty of power for dynamic sound, and superior waveform fidelity. Here are some of the circuit features that make it possible; a single-packaged, low-noise dual transistor is used in the differential amplifier first stage for low noise and precise thermal tracking. Current-mirror loading provides high open loop gain, without increasing the level of noise. This output assisted by the emiter follower, drives the voltage amplifiaction stage (Class A) with minimal distortion especially in the high frequency range. A 2-stage Darlington connection is used in the power stage, all adding up to plenty of power and insignificant distortion.

Super Quiet Phono Equalizer
The SU-8044K has an unbelievably high Signal-to-Noise ratio of 80 dB (at 2,5 mV sens. IHF A) when using an MM type cartridge, a spec rarely found in this amp's price class. It means that noise won't interfere with your enjoyment of records, evn during very soft passages. There is a 3-stage direct coupling MM phono equalizer section with direct coupling of the PNP-NPN transistors, plus a PNP transistor in the emitter-follower. A few of the reasons for low distortion and high gain are the separation of DC and AC in the negative feedback loop of the equalizer, 100% DC feedback and the use of narrow tolerance components for negative feedback.

Treble and bass Controls
An advanced operational IC is used for the negative feedback-type tone controls. Bass and treble can be easily boosted or attenuated to suit individual tastes without introducing distortion.

Accurate peak-Power Indication
The easy-to-read FL (fluorescent) meters are an improvement over conventional peak power indicators because of their near-instantaneous response and superior accuracy. They can be switched between two ranges: 0,1W - 100W, a range that is useful when metering for full peak power: 0,01 W - 10 W, the range at which most listening is usually done.

Versatile  Recording Selector
The SU-8044K has two tape positions on the input selector as well as on the recording selector in a logical and practical layout. With this complete separation, you can do such things as dub from tape to tape while listening to your favorite disc. Or tape from your tuner while listening to music on another tape.

Rugged Stable power Supply
The power supply is designed to handle the sudden current demands of high energy musical transients without losing sound clarity or introducing transient crosstalk. This is done by using two large capacity 8,200 µF electrolytic capacitors in the bridged, full-wave rectifier circuit and by employing a recently-developed transformer. It also supplies regulated voltage to the phono equalizer circuit. The transformer coils are floated in a special resin to absorb unwanted vibrations. Even at low volume levels you can enjoy your favorite music without being bothered by a noisy transformer.

Other Features
Muting circuit eliminates shock noise when the power is turned on and off, providing added speaker protection.
High filter to cut out high frequency noise such as record scratches and tape hiss.
Loudness switch for use when lisstening at low volume levels. Lows and highs are boosted to make up for "deficiencies" in the way the human ear responds at low volume levels.
Front-panel speaker selector lets you select either of two speaker systems (A or B) boith or at onec (A + B)
