What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Aiwa AS-S30 amplifier

Stereo Integrated Amplifier

Fifteen big Watts per channel of honest-to-goodness high fidelity sound from a 2-stage differential SEEP-OCL integrated amplifier an incredibly compact 7,1 cm high by 21 cm wide. Yet, the A30 has plenty of room to accommodate up to 4 external components including tape, deck, tuner and record turntable.

Power output has been boosted by use of a new extra-stable power transformer with independent coils for power and preamplifier sections, and enlarged heat sinks aid in efficient heat dissipation.

For low noise and dynamic performance from high quality MM phono cartridges, the improved phono equalizer IC has boosted Signal-to-Noise Ratio to an excellent 82 dB, with very low 0,005% distortion at 1 kHz. RIAA equalization is a remarkably precise ±0,2 dB throughout the 20 to 20,000 Hz frequency range. For well-balanced listening at low output volumes a switchable loudness compensation circuit is provided.

Aiwa ST-R30 tuner

AM/FM Stereo Tuner

An unpretentious tuner with some very impressive credentials, the R30 brings a new dimension in design and convenience to radio listening enjoyment.

Accurate Digital Display

Regardless of scale length, you're never quite sure where you're tuned with linear or rotary scales, because their graduations are usually too widely spaced to define tuning variations as close as 100 kHz (FM) or 1 kHz (AM). This alone is one big advantage of a property designed digital readout. For extra accuracy, the frequency counter IC in the R30's digital unit employs a quartz crystal which provides an unerring 6,4 MHz reference signal to ensure that tuning is held within a close ±25 kHz for FM or ±1,5 kHz for AM.

Superb Performance

For the best possible sensitivity and rejection of spurious signals, front end design employs a high stability cascade junction MOS FET. Moving on to the IF detector stage, outstanding 70 dB selectivity within 400 kHz is realized by use of ceramic filters specially chosen for the flattest possible group delay characteristics, which in turn has achieved low noise and distortion. Beautiful stereo separation (45 dB at 1 kHz) is maintained by means of a stable PLL IC in the MPX demodulator stage.

A smart looking receiver of incredibly compact dimensions, the AX-S50 puts out a lively 20 Watts per channel; its main appeal however is in its many sophisticated features, some so advanced they are just beginning to make their appearance in current full-sized receiver models.

For fully electronic one-touch tuning capability, the tuner section incorporates a quartz PLL synthesizer which selects the station either automatically or manually. Up to 10 stations may be programmed into the tuner's "memory" and selected at random, irrespective of band. An A/B switch (A=1-5/B=6-10) serves to reduce the number of switches for a cleaner control arrangement.

As in other Aiwa mini units, capable phono equalizer design promises high signal/noise ratio (80 dB) and ample overload capability (180 Mv at 1 kHz). The RC-R300 wireless remote control system (optional) can also be added to give the AX-S50 even more versatility; wireless remote functions include manual station tuning selection of preset radio channels and listening modes, up/down volume adjustment and operation of the SD-L60 cassette deck.

Aiwa SA-A60 amplifier

Amplifier, tuner and cassette deck; all identically styled, all withexciting performance.

The SA-A60 integrated amplifier typifies a new breed of space-saving mini component designed for powerful, low distortion sound.

Dynamic Super Loudness for improved bass reproduction

Mere tone adjustment or use of conventional loudness compensation can only enhance bass signals at the expense of affecting listening quality in midrange frequencies as well. The new DSL circuit in the SA-A60 puts back electronically what the speaker itself is unable to do strucurally, DSL performs at its best at quiet listening levels; its effect is automatically attenuated in response to output volume, keeping tone quality natural whether at low, medium or high volumes. Whether with bookshelf size or larger floor standing speakers, every type of music stands to benefit from this exciting new achievement.

Built-in MC cartridge head amp

Just press in the front panel switch and you can enjoy the distinctive tone quality of Moving Coil phono cartridges on the SA-A60 without the need for expensive outboard head amplifier units. MM cartridge performance is outstanding as well; the precision phono equalizer boasts a superb 85 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio and RIAA deviation within ±0,2 dB from 20 to 20,000 Hz

Aiwa AP-D60 turntable

Direct-Drive Turntable

One of the world's slimmest at just 71 mm in overall height, the AP-D60 incorporates Aiwa's new "Linear direct-drive" motor for reduced wow and flutter, low rumble.

New "Integrated Tonearm" system

Because headshell, cartridge and tonearm have been designed for maximum compatibility, this new system offers a number of advantages over conventional models. Lowered mass of the integrated unit effectively increases compliance, while at the same time lowering the tonearm's resonance "Q: to minimize adverse effects of record warp frequency.

Linear DD motor

Unlike previous direct drive designs which place the motor beneath the platter spindle, the AP-D60's unique construction drives the platter by means of alternating current generated by a ring of magnets on the platter's outer adge. This enables space reduction and provides smooth rotation with a minimum of vibration.

Automatic record size selection

A photoelectric sensor mechanism below the turntable mat detects the size of the record and relays this information to the tonearm mechanism. This system ensures that the stylus will be protected from the kind of "accidents" to which non-thinking automatic turntables are so prone.

Aiwa AP-D50 turntable

Direct-Drive Turntable

A completely new concept in hi-fi component design; the world's first automatic front-loading turntable. Whether you're aiming for convenience or performance, the ingenuity of the AP-D50 is hard to beat.

Operation

First set the speed and record size. Then after placing the disc on the loading tray, press the Play/Cut button and the disc is loaded into playing position by the motorized mechanism. Another touch of the Play button and the arm is transported over the record and play begins. As a safety device returns the arm to the armrest before permitting the loading tray to come out, the Eject button may be pressed either during play or after play has completed.

High performance direct-drive motor

For accurate rotation speed completely free from cogging or other undesirable effects, the AP-D50 employs a 4-phase 8 -pole linear torque motor with a frequency generator type speed detector. This compares the motor rotation speed to a standard rotation frequency and makes needed connections virtually instantaneously. A heavy 1,3 kg aluminum diecast platter contributes to the very low 0,028% (WRMS) wow and flutter, and rumble, another result of improved motor design, is a superb 75 dB (DIN-B).

Low resonance concrete resin sheet material

Even if a turntable chassis material has a high degree of resistance to acoustical feedback, its effectiveness can be drastically lowered by overlooking the section of the platter which actually contacts the record itself, the rubber mat. At the AP-D50's turntable sheet is a part of the auto-loading mechanism, Aiwa engineers were able to take advantage of the need for rigidity to develop a new material. This "concrete resin", a formulation of CaCO₃ and glass fiber in a polyester base, is able to offer superior resistance to low frequency resonance, enabling the AP-D50 to absorb larger doses of acoustical feedback with no detrimental effects on tone quality.

Adjustable Pitch Control

When singing or playing along with a musical instrument, some variation in playback speed may be desired to raise or lower the record's pitch. The pitch control knobs on the AP-D50 enables the unit's speed to be varied by as much as ±3%. The 4 rows or stroboscopic speed indicators at the platter edge are useful in setting speed to precisely 33 or 45 rpm.

Full manual operation

It's difficult to conceive of a turntable which can be operated manually without raising the dust cover, but the AP-D50 can do just that. An arm carrier lever located on the front panel permits manual, positioning or the arm when raise off the record surface. Naturally, hydraulic arm cueing is controllable from the front panel in both manual and auto modes of play.

Photoelectric auto return mechanism

Most turntables employ a mechanical device which activates auto return operation by detecting a buildup of stress on the arm; this stress unfortunately has the side effect of increasing distortion. The AP-D50 employs a sophisticated non-contact photoelectric system coupled to the arm's own motor, thus assuring uncompromised high performance.

Sensitive J-shaped arm with removable headshell

Designed for accurate tracking in the record groove with minimal tracking error and distortion, the low mass aluminum pipe arm takes a universal headshell for easy cartridge conversion. A high compliance MM cartridge with diamond stylus is included as standard equipment.

Repeat operation

With this button pressed in, record play will be repeated continuously until halted manually. An LED indicator has been provided to show that the repeat switch is set to on.

Exclusive rec-sync feature

When connected by cable supplied with most Aiwa cassette deck and portable stereo models, disc-to-cassette dubbing will commence automatically with the lowering of the AP-D50's arm on the record. Ask for a demonstration of this convenient feature at your Aiwa dealer's showroom

Aiwa SD-L50 cassette deck

 Stereo Cassette Deck

A front-loading model with all the features of full-sized units, the SD-L50 nonetheless is an incredibly compact 25 cm wide by 10,7 cm high, making it one of the most compact cassette decks currently available.

Circuitry and head design have been reinforced to give superb sound quality from the new high performance metal tapes.  IC logic controls with a stroke of just 0,3 mm contribute to the positive feeling of operation, while the dual motor drive transport holds wow and flutter to below 0,04% (WRMS). The deck can also be set to perform automatic rewind/repeat play of one side of a tape up to 8 times or until halted manually. For accurate record level settings, 2 rows of 12 LEDs display peaks in 3 colors from -20 to -2 dB (green), 0 to +4 dB (yellow) and +6 to +10 dB (red)

By adding the optional MT-50 timer, the unit can be set for unattended recording, and in the timer's Tape Time mode, digital countdown display of the time remaining on the tape facilitates recording operations. The RC-R300 remote control system (another recommended optional) can be utilized for operation of all deck transport functions from up to six meters (20 feet) away.
