What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Sony TC-K 35 cassette deck

Top performance cassette deck

The Sony TC-K35 stereo cassette deck combines convenience and high performance at a surprisingly affordable price. As heir to Sony's many-years of excellence in tape recording, the K35 offers superior magnetic, mechanical and electronic technology. The end result is reliability and accurate reproduction of musical sound.

Ferrite0and-Ferrite head

The K35 incorporates Sony's exclusive ferrite-and Ferrite record/play head. Because ferrite is extremely hard, it provides exceptionally long service life - up to 200 times longer than permalloy. In addition, ferrite's hardness allows mirror-smooth polishing for low wear better tape-to-head contact, and better sound. And ferrite's superior magnetic permeability at high frequencies contributes to the extended high frequency response of the TC-K35

Low-Distortion Electronics

Sony's attention to detail extends to the electronic design, as well. The critical head/playback amplifier for example, uses a unique, patented, direct-coupled, design to insure low distortion. As you would expect, the K35 also incorporates the Dolby noise reduction system, providing Signal-to-Noise Ratio improvement of up to 10 dB at 5 kHz and above. And a built-in 19 kHz filter prevents Dolby circuit mistracking when you record FM stereo broadcasts.

DC Servo Tape Drive

The motor of the TC-K35 is a Sony Tri-Duty DC Servo Motor  with an internal frequency generator. As the motor turns, the generator produces a frequency proportional to the motor's speed. In this way, the generator reports any speed variation to the servo-control electronics which provide instantaneous correction. This, along with a dynamically balanced oversized flywheel, assures smooth, stable tape travel, with wow and flutter of only 0,05% (WRMS). And the unique aluminum, steel and rubber motor housing helps maintain this accuracy under a wide variety of temperature and load conditions.

Rugged, Flexible Transport

The K35's Sony-built transport provides particular benefits. First, the special "Auto-Play" feature allows you to rewind to the beginning of the tape and automatically transfer to the playback mode. Second, you can "punch in" directly from the play mode into the record mode, simply by pressing the record button. This allows additions to pre-recorded material. Next, REC Mute deletes unwanted program material as you record, and inserts periods of silence between pieces of music at the press of a button. Finally, at the end of tape, an all-mode auto stop system disengages the heads, pinch roller and capstan. This, together with a special safety-load mechanism, helps preserve tape and transport system from unnecessary friction and wear.

Precise Controls, Convenient Features

In addition, the layout and design of the K35 afford easy, accurate control. Separate, three-position bias and equalization controls optimize the deck for normal, ferrichrome, chromium dioxide (or chrome-equivalent) tapes. Dual-concentric controls provide quick adjustment of record levels and channel balance. Levels are displayed large meters, accurately calibrated from -20 to +5 VU. Musical transients too fast for detection by the meters are clearly indicated on the "peak" LED

Denon TU-750 tuner

FM/AM Stereo Tuner

Fully Electronic Digital Synthesizer Ensures Best Tuning

The digital synthesizer enables optimum tuning in accordance with the frequency of different FM/AM (LW) stations in increments of 50 kHz for FM reception and 9 kHz for AM reception.

This system servo-controls the veractor diode by comparing the frequency received with an accurate reference frequency obtained by a crystal oscillator, and thereby cuts frequency drift and ensures stable reception.

Automatic Accurate Tuning

Set the Scanning key to Auto and push the Up (for Down) tuning key, and the higher (or lower) frequency radio wave is automatically searched for the correct tuning point. Depressing the tuning key again causes the adjacent station to be pinpointed.

One-Touch Precise Tuning to Any of 14 Stations

Once the desired station is selected, it can be stored in memory merely by pushing the Memory key and the associated Preset key (1-7). Thus, up to 14 stations (FM/AM) can be stored in memory. Depressing the desired Preset key pinpoints the station selected.

Sophisticated Circuit Configuration

At the front end, a 4-stage varactor diode comparable to a 4-gang variable capacitor and an MOS FET are used to form a solid input circuit, attaining high sensitivity and outstanding Signal-to-Noise Ratio. At the same time, image interference is appreciably removed. The intermediate frequency amplifier stage, which largely determines the total sound quality, employs a linear-phase ceramic filter featuring both low distortion and high selectivity, thereby improving the overall distortion throughout the band.

The detector circuit employs a quadrature detector IC having linear detection capability in a wide band. Also, the MPX circuit for FM detector uses a newly developed PLL-MPX IC boasting low distortion and high Signal-to-Noise Ratio, providing excellent stereo separation.

DC Configuration Amplifier for Audio Circuit up to Output Stage.

To transmit high-quality, distortion-free musical signals, a DC configuration amplifier eliminating the coupling capacitor is used to obtain optimum frequency characteristics.

JVC SK-1000 loudspekaers

High-Power Speaker Systems from JVC SK-1000

Bass-Reflex 3-way, 3-speaker system

Features:

Massive 170 watts peak input

Rich bass from 12-inch woofer

5-inch midrange for uncollored presence

Wide-dispersion dome tweeter

JVCs Phase Moire Propagation Pattern technique

Sturdy simulated walnut cabinet

Clean sound undistorted even al. A massive input of 170 watts. The SK-1000 lives up to JVC's dedication to The Musical Truth at both low and high input levels. All the thrilling musical dynamics come through smoothly without clipping or coloration, thanks to JVC's refinement of the 3-way, 3-speaker system design in a we've paid particular attention to large power handling. This means that the big 12-inch woofer, the 5-inch cone midrange and the dome tweeter work together to handle inputs as massive as 170 watts with very musical results.

Then to ensure that the SK-1000's speaker units and enclosure all interact acoustically to deliver The Musical Truth from all sources. JVC has employed the exclusive Phase Moire Propagation Pattern technique.

Sold and Bottomless Bass

The 12-inch woofer in the SK-1000 brings out The Musical Truth in the lows because it has a specially-treated, hard-surfaced diaphragm and a smooth-riding bobbin and voice coil structure.

To be more precise, its light and rigid diaphragm is coupled with a low-mass moving structure and powerful magnet 737 gr (26 oz) for a bold, tight bass response. This construction permits a high efficiency (93 dB/w) for better sound definition during low-level play. But it remains strong and resilient to accept huge power inputs without damage and without distortion. Also, the moving structure does not touch the bottom of the unit thanks to the use of a long distance top plate which protects the voice coil from damage and the sound from distortion even when high-amplitude bass is introduced.

Mellower Mids

The harsh sound of poorly designed midrange speaker units can be particularly annoying when you are listening to vocals or music featuring solo instruments JVC avoids this by using a midrange design that's especially engineered for clean and mellow response in high fidelity play. The diaphragm 12 cm (5") diameter is like that of the woofer treated with a special material to retain an ideally hard surface. A hard aluminum alloy metal cap over the center minimizes split vibration - even at high-power input levels - to keep the sound transparent for a pleasing sense of presence. Spurious vibration is avoided and efficiency increased by a thick 5 mm (3/16") die-cast aluminum frame mounted directly on the front baffle.

Room-filling highs from dome tweeter

JVC's search for a better tweeter has LED to a successful discovery by using an elastic instead of a stiff and brittle hard material we've been able to employ the dome shape for the tweeter - the shape which offers the best dispersion. This shape radiates sound directly with no distortion. It fills your room so that no matter where you sit, the full musical range of sounds reaches your ears.

Elastic dome without special treatment tend to collapse, causing many forms of distortion JVC avoids this with the use of special Japanese hemp fibres woven in every regular patterns and coated with an damping material to prevent deformation. The relatively large 25 mm (1") diameter dome tweeter in the SK-1000 brings the highs to life with clarity and crisp musicality.

Level Controls and Enclosure

Two continuously-variable level controls (one each for midrange and treble) allow you to tailor the response of the SK-1000 to suit your room acoustics or your own musical taste. Phase distortion and power loss are kept minimum, and damping and response never deteriorate as the level controls are adjusted.

We.ve also improved the acoustic properties of the SK-1000 enclosure. It has panels of ideally dense materials, braced inside for extra strength. The port in the front baffle has been placed so as to take full advantage of the bass reflex enclosure design. Sides and top are finished in attractive simulated walnut.

JVC Phase Moire Propagation Pattern technique

Our engineers have perfected a computer-assisted way of measuring speaker performance that actually translates acoustic response into visible patterns. This is the unique JVC Phase Moire Propagation Pattern technique. With the use of advanced electronic computers we can actually see how speaker units and enclosure interact acoustically. This technique was used in the development of the JVC SK-1000 , for instance. And you can see the results. Notice that there's very little agitation in the pattern at the vital crossover frequencies of 1 kHz and 10 kHz. This further guarantees smooth sound for The Musical Truth from JVC.

The woofer has been designed to minimize distortion and to ansure powerful, well-damped, well-defined bass. These characteristics are enhanced by the use of an extra-large magnet, as well as Pioneer's  free-beating cone paper.

Natural Mid-range, Presise Highs

This unit employs two mid-range speakers, and three tweeters. There is a 5" cone type mid-range and 4" cone type mid-range speaker, for the addition of natural sound quality to this very important area of the frequency range. Additionally, for smooth, sparkling highs, Pioneer has incorporated two 1/2" dome type super tweeters, as well as a multi-cellular horn type tweeter in the CS-99A, the latter for very high frequencies and excellent sound dispersion.

Advanced Performance Characteristics.

All speakers used in the CS-99A have been selected for satisfyingly smooth and natural response throughout the audible range. They are perfectly matched and balanced for flawless sound reproduction. The maximum input power of 100 watts means that the CS-99A can handle even the most overwhelming orchestral climaxes with ease, and also with convincing realism. Frequency range of the entire system is very wide - from 25 to 22,000 Hz - and flat.

"Free Beating" Process Cone Paper

The brown cone paper in the CS-99A system is different from conventional cone papers, since it is composed of long and short, thick and thin fibers, that are beaten, not cut. The pulp itself is made from specially selected plant and animal fibres, then processed through Pioneer's Free Beating System. The result of this new technology is a cone paper that is lighter, stronger than any other. It provides a rich powerful bass tone, clear mids, improved damping, lower distortion and the ability to handle high input signals. The difference is substantial; you will hear it immediately.

Fine Furniture Look

The pleated saran grille cloth and luxurious grille, plus the solid construction of the walnut enclosure, give the CS-99A a highly distinctive appearance. The grille is easily removed, revealing a walnut-baffle board and matching speakers.
