What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Philips LHH-1000 CD player

Philips Compact Disc Player LHH U00

The Philips Reference Series LHH 1000 is now the standard by which other compact disc players will be measured. Other companies may claim state-of-the-art technology but the world's most particular audiophiles-Philips engineers- have achieved it, designing a technological masterpiece that is as pure and complete as any Mozart sonata.

A limited edition - and in strictly limited quantities the Philips LHH 1000 says much about the people who designed the system and the discerning buyer. It says only the best will do ...only a level of excellence attained after years of dedication to achieving the finest musical reproduction possible.

Every component of the Philips LHH 1000 is hand chosen for maximum performance. At the heart of the separate digital-to-analog converter and digital filter are special Select Grade TDA-1541 "AS -1" chips with four times oversampling that realize a startling 15,75 bits of resolution from the 16 bits available in the compact disc format. The highest resolution yet achieved in compact disc. Linearity error and distortion barely register. In fact, ail specifications are where you would expect them to be-at the top of their class.

The separate transport section features the professional quality, broadcast standard Philips CDM-1 mechanism made of die cast aluminum alloy. An extremely accurate single beam laser pickup floats on a Radialinear swinging arm that improves tracking ability and offers faster track-to- track access times. And, of course, the LHH 1000 has the renowned Philips Favorite Track Selection (FTS) system to program your entire CD collection. Connections between the Reference Compact Disc Player System (DAC and transport) can be made with coaxial or optical fiber cable with diamond polished connectors. This ensures 100 percent error free transmission of digital data, resulting in truly lifelike, distortion -free sound.

The utmost thought and care went into every aspect of the LHH 1000. There are no plastic parts anywhere in the chassis assembly. The elegant looks belie durable and rugged construction that is second to none.

A sophisticated Learning Type Universal remote control is capable of learning 150 functions from other remotes. LCD readouts complements the system to provide complete fingertip control of this state-of-the-art CD player.

Wadia 7 Transport

If the essence of music is art, then th eessence of music reproduction is technique. And the quintessence of that technique is Wadia.
As we continue to make pioneering advances in digital reproduction, by applying advanced computer technology and patented programming to leading-edge signal decoding, we place increasingly greater demandads on th eelement of digital technology first in the reproduction chain; the transport.
For, while the New Generation of Wadia Decoding Computers has been engineered to achieve faithful reproduction of the very life of recorded music, the broad symphony of instrumental and vocal nuance, the aural ambience of soundspace, the audibly influential presence of the artists themselves, reproduction comes to naught lest the recorded signal is sent, intact, to these brilliant instruments of sonic  reproduction.

Enter the new generation of Wadia transports - designed, foremost, to ensure absolute mastery of signal recovery in the time domain; the genesis of optimum reproduction.
Wadia's proprietary clocking technology initiates digital timing accuracy at the LSI chip, setting the standard for accurate time-base relationships throughout the chain of digital reproduction equipment.
To isolate signal topology from power-supply generated noise, the Wadia 7 Transport has been engineered with a completely redesigned power supply, housed in its own substantial chassis. A state-of-the-art regulator stage ensures constant voltage sophisticated line filtering delivers a pure AC line feed to two toroidal transformers - the very best of current manufacture as is every component in the Wadia 7.
Enclosure design, too, is an essential element of distortion control and, as a result in a loss of information  which cannot be recreated by improvements later in the system.

Wadia's exclusive rounded-corner design detunes the enclosure from resonant frequencies which would have a negative impact of critical clock and program signals.
As the foundation for fautless signal recovery, the chassis of the Wadia 7, constructed of massive body plates, provides a profoundly stable platform for that most critical of all transport components, the spinning mechanism itself.
To expect near- perfect accuracy from heavy-handed servo-feedback corrections would seem folly. Thus, at the heart of the Wadia 7 Transport is the critically acclaimed P-2S spinning mechanism - an acknow ledged industry standard, utilized outside  the manufacturer's realm only within the Wadia 7.
Its full-size die-cast zinc/bronze disc turntable and stabilizer clamp keeps disc and laser pickup in their precise relative positions. With this dimensional stability and interial damping, servo corrections need only deal with tracking the variable disc rotation speed.
Combine full-disc clamping with a floating suspension system, sophisticated resonance damping design and the use of non-resonant metals - not plastic - throughout its understructure, and the result is a mechanical treatment which has risen to worldwide critical acclaim..

Function selection of the Wadia 7 is equally sophisticated. Sculpteed from a solid block of aluminum, the full-functions remote controller promises a lifetime of faultless service, reducing control intrusions into both cosmetics and mechanical integrity.
It is also your fully remote acces to the Wadia 7's matchless companion in unrivaled digital reproduction, the Wadia 9 Decoding Computer.
Truly, the Wadia 7 Transport brings unerring digital transport to reality, presenting, through Wadia's pioneering use of the Glass Fiber Optical Transmission System, the world's most accurate digital output, and offering for  your audition the essence of the art of music, through the twenty-first centry technique that is Wadia.
The Wadia 7 Transport  feature a complete array of output choices. Un mistakably, our prime choice is Glass Fiber Optics. To maintain compatibility between Wadia transports and all possible subsequent system components, we have included a plastic optics output, a Coax output via BNC, and an output in the AES/EBU  connection system.
Additional user-selected options are adjusted from the real panel of the wadia 7 Transport. Separate adjustments can be made for disc drawer insertion speed and ejection speed, and for display intensity.

Esoteric P-700

 High-precision mechanism featuring VRDS
In our newl developed Vibration-Free Rigid Disc Clamping System mechanism, the slighty concave turntable is above the disc which is held against it by upward pressure exered by a large-diameter disc clamper, for higher stability. This new disc clamping system, with the disc held tightly between the turnyable which has the same diameter as the disc and a precisely aligned clamper, corrects any  warping or eccentricity of the disc, so that the microscopic pits are always traced accurately by the center beam of the laser pickup. Another advantage of the system is that it minimizes any undesirable vibrations of the disc.

Newly developed floating suspension system for the ultimate stability.
The optical system and the mechanism which supports it are the most important parts of any CD player, and are critical if it is to operate at peak performance. In the CD Drive Unit, the laser pickup drive system uses a newly developed floating suspension which completely isolates it from internal resonance, external vibrations and any influence of external sound pressure, so it can read the digital signals from the microscopic pits with high precision and extreme stability.

High-prcision 3-beam linear tacking laser pickup for ultimate tracking ability.
The 3-beam linear-tracking laser pickup was newly developed to have the lightest possible weight and excellent rigidity. Together with the newly-developed disc clamipng system using a large turntable, it gives the drive an extremely precise pit tracking ability.

High-rigidity dual-construction chassis
The unit has the ideal anti-resonance heavy-weight dual construction chassis. As the shaved-aluminum front panel is combined rigidly with the thick chassis, the overall construction is solid and has superior non-resonationg characteristics. Moreover, since this CD Drive Unit does not incorporate the D/A converter section, it offers extra rigidity; vibrations and mechanical oscillations from the player cannot interfere with the operation of the D/A converter.

Denon DP-S1

The DP-S1 is a top quality CD transport developed based on a ploicy of fully eliminating vibration and resonance within an innovative design. Vibration and resonance are eliminated through a newly developed pickup mechanism, a large stabilizer, triple-layer floation, and a frame design which keeps the influence of external acoustic pressure to the absolute minimum. The DP-S1 provides five types of digital outputs and an ultra high-speed synchronous optical link (ST-GEN LOCK) for ultimate synchronized driving.

Newly developed pickup mechanism unit
Strong cast aluminum pickup base throughly eliminates extraneous vibration.
A high torque motor provides accurate, extremely smooth rotation, minimizing jutter, in addition , the self-centering stainless steel turntable is driven with an ultra-thick spindle shaft (6mm in diameter), and a very hard, low friction ruby (5mm in diameter) is used for the bearing, providing outstandingly high endurance.
The opening of the disc loading section is air-shielded with a special rubber material to suppress the effect of air vibration entering through gaps, greatly improving the airtightness of the pickup mechanism.
Extremely stable disc playback thanks to a large stabilizer
The stabilizer holds the disc down to correct any warping in the disc and prevent jitter during signal readout.
The stabilizer also thoroughlysuppresses any resonance inthe disc itself.
The moment of inertia generated by the stabilizer, which is heavier than disc, creates extremely stable rotation and improves the readout jitter margin.

Through anti-resonant construction
The latge insulator absorbs vibrations from the floor through a combination of aluminum and sintered alloy.
The mechanissm base which supports the pickup mechanism is floated from the frame with elastic rubber.
The pickup mechanism is itself floated with an oil damper and spring. This Triple Floating Mechanism structure shuts out external vibration to provide playback with excellent vibration resistance.
The highly rigid pickup  mechanism is palced at the center where it is less likaly to be affected by external vibration. This also makes for excellent weight distribution.
The heavyweight chassis and lowcenter of gravity create an ideal non-resonant design.
The design makes use of spherical surfaces and radial forms to keep the influence of external acoustic pressure to a minimum
Synchronized driving with an ultra high speed synchronized optical link (ST-GEN LOCK)
The speed at which date transfer is a very rapid 50Mb/sec, nearly 10 times that of conventional optical links (6Mbit/sec). This virtually eliminates transmission distortion due to signal delay.
The D/A converter master clock is synchronized with the CD Transport clock improving clock precision and suppressing  jitter.
The AT&T ST-Link system is used for the interface, allowing direct one way connection to high quality foreign made D/A converters.

Meridian 500

Meridian introduce the 500 Compact Disc Transport that combines major advances in digital audio and engineering design to provide clear, pure and natural sound

The 500 Compact Disc Transport incorporates a precision engineered CD turntable and drawer system, which provides all the advantages of drawer loading with the superior disc clamping normally associated with top loading players. It provides a precision digital output which is re-clocked and uses a very high power 75 ohms amplifier for superlow jitter. In order to improve the sound quality and disc playability Meridian has updated the design of the 500 to use a new three beam laser CD mechanism. This involves a new type of in-house software that, amongst its many features, adapts the player to the parameters of each CD.
The software is combined with radical proprietary analogue processing system that de jitters the data coming from the disc before it is decoded. The 500 is our best transport, ideal for Meridian digital speakers or with the 565 Digital Surround Processor. Combined with our 566 DAC, its the finest CD playback system Meridian offers to get the sound of being there
Meridian has eschewed the usual bought-in drive controller PCB in favour of its own circuitry.
Decoding of the signal lifted from CD is via Philips SAA7310, which handles error correction as well as demodulation and subcode processing, and optical control is provided by the TDA 8808/8909 servo electronics. From this a PCF2705 provides further digital processing from 12C to S/PDIF, before output to a high power 75 Ω amplifier feeding the co-axial output through a small toroidal transformer to improve the squareness of the signal into the interconnect.  A high speed optical EIAJ "Toslink" output is also provided.

McIntosh MCD 1000

Touch the open/close button to send the machined aluminum disc tray gliding out to receive your CD. The MCD1000 takes it from there. Extraction of all of the data on the disc without errors is what this transport is about. The machined aluminum top and side panels, combined with fiber optically lit 3D glass front panel not only add lasting beauty, but also provide a massive enclosure for the disc drive transport. Combined with a new floating table for the optics, the MCD1000 laser pick-up is incredibly well isolated from the outside world. Vibration never reaches the optical system, reducing errors. Reduced errors results in full retrieval of every detail of your music.

The MCD1000 CD Transport and its matching MDA1000 D/A Converter represent the introduction of a new and elite product category from McIntosh. The philosophy behind this enhanced level of McIntosh products is nothing but the best…to deliver the absolute highest possible performance without design constraints. Available only through McIntosh Authorized Premier dealers, the MCD1000 and the MDA1000 are merely the beginning of this exclusive line.

POWER SUPPLY

Multiple layers of regulation provide clean power to all critical circuits. The R-Core power transformer has the lowest noise field of any available.

TRANSPORT ISOLATION

High power systems with high power woofer systems place greater demands on the CD transport. The MCD1000 is designed to work under these conditions without producing tracking error that must be corrected later down the data stream.

MACHINED TOP AND SIDE PANELS

The top and sides of the MCD1000 are machined from thick aluminum panels with a smooth black anodized finish. In the recessed area of the top panel is a glass panel screened with a block diagram of the MCD1000’s circuitry.

FRONT PANEL DESIGN

3D front panel glass design is illuminated with long-life, cool-running fiber optics that make operation in low light easier. Silk screening on the inside of the glass front panel prevents wear of the nomenclature, ensuring lasting beauty and highest resale value
