What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Rotel RX-802 receiver

We've the fine wood-grain cabinet off of the RX-802 to give you a perfect picture of what performance in a high-quality AM/FM stereo receiver looks like. So see for yourself. It's all here. A masterful blend of the very latest circuitry. Low-noise, long-life silicon transistors integrated circuits. An AM/FM front end that's out front in sensitivity and performance. A power amplifier section that's - well, we'll let you decide for yourself what it is after hearing the giant 6,800 mfd block capacitors in action. And an advanced NF and IC equalizer amplifier. This and more, all within the good looking RX-802 enclosure. And all there for one reason. To give you the most satisfying experience in stereo dynamics that you've had to date. Inside and out, the RX-802 is not only the sweetest looking receiver on the music market, it's the sweetest sounding sweetest looking.

The performance begins here

With a high-performance, high-sensitivity FM front end. The RX-802 has dual-gate MOS FET's and a 4-gang linear-frequency tuning capacitor, the latter largely contributes to sensitivity and performance which you will translate directly into musical enjoyment. If you.ve thought all along that all receivers were basically the same, you'll stop where RX-802 performance begins.

FM IF and AM IF sections

In the FM IF section, 2 high-gain ICs housing 6 differential amplifiers and two linear-phase ceramic filters get together to achieve brilliant selectivity and rejection characteristics. In the AM IF section, a hard working ceramic filter provides equally efficient selectivity. Together with an RF stage in the AM front end, the sum of RX-802 AM features is performance that perks up all ears, no matter how tired.

A tower of power

A stable, split-power supply high-lights the amplifier section, which includes to 6,800 midblock capacitors and an oversized power transformer. That's a lot of satisfaction. It's also a lot of power which the RX-802 maintains constantly. This section also has directly-coupled OCL complementary circuitry to keep the power up and the distortion down, from one end of the audio spectrum to the other - 50 watts per channel, min. RMS, both channels driven simultaneously into 8 ohms from 20 to 20,000 Hz with no more than 0,5% Total Harmonic Distortion. And "steady she goes" doesn't only apply to ships. Now it describes the dampening factor and output characteristics which achieve superb transient response throughout the very low frequency range.

NF and IC equalizer amplifier

Genuinely outstanding RIAA characteristics are achieved through low-distortion, directly coupled NF (negative Feedback) circuitry combined with high voltage IC. Reproduction is more transparent than ever before. And added bonus is that tone control circuitry benefits from the same directly coupled NF circuitry.

PLL MPX section

Phase Lock Loop integrated circuitry and other new circuitry innovations in the MPX section result in improved stereo separation and frequency response. Distortion goes way down and stays there.

Rotel RX-602 receiver

AM/FM Stereo Receiver

Add a high performance, high-sensitivity tuner to advanced PLL MPX circuitry, then add a high-power, low-distortion power amplifier to all the other RX-602 features, and what does it all add up to. An experience in sound that you'll not only want to have around to set the pace of your living room enjoyment, but one you'll also find hard to resist because the price makes the professional quality so readily accessible.

A high-performance, high-sensitivity tuner

For truly fantastic sound enjoyment, the high-performance,, high-sensitivity tuner Rotel engineers for the RX-602 gives you super high sensitivity, excellent rejection characteristics, and distortion  so low it's negligible. For a big boost in selectivity along with fasting reliability, ceramic filters and advanced integrated circuitry go snugly into the FM IF section.

The Power Amp

It's high-power, low-distortion all the way. With split power supply and 100% directly coupled OCL circuitry (OCL circuitry has low-noise silicon transistors that give 40W/40W continuous music power into 8 ohms at less than 0,5% T.H.D. both channel driven - or 35W/35W RMS continuous power into 8 ohms at less than 0,5% T.H.D. both channel driven from 20 to 30,000 Hz). If that's not superb output, you tell us what is.

Advanced NF and IC equalizer amp

Advanced because of the advanced electronics - low-distortion , 2-stage directly coupled NF (Negative Feedback) circuitry with high-voltage integrated circuitry achieve genuinely outstanding RIAA characteristics. For terrifically transparent reproduction quality, tone control circuitry also features directly coupled negative feedback circuitry.

FM and Audio Muting

FM muting effectively removes inter-station noise during tuning. Audio muting instantly lowers the volume level by -20 dB without disturbing the volume setting when temporary lowering of volume is necessary.

Extra-wide Linear FM dial scale and large tuning

The extra width of the linear FM Dial scale results in easy , precise tuning. The size of the vernier scale makes it easy to see. Large tuning meters complement this ease all the more with smooth flywheel action knob that get you right-on to a station quickly.

PLL MPX section

Utilization of PLL (Phase Loock Loop) integrated circuitry and other improved circuitry in the MPX section allows for effective stereo esparation and excellent frequency response. Distortion never gets in the way of stereo enjoyment.

The performance and the advanced electronics that make RX-602 enjoyment possible are enclosed in a cabinet that stands out in any system; hair-line brushed extruded aluminum front with luxury  metal knobs. Cabinet itself has a beautiful simulated walnut finish. This long, lean look is human-engineered up, down, and all-around to be a great looker and an equally great performer.

Rotel RX-402 receiver

AM/FM Stereo Receiver

The RX-402, if the spirit moves you toward something special. It'll take you there.

You can't beat the big quality advantages the RX-402 AM/FM Stereo Receiver adds to Rotel's existing line-up of performance equipment. It's versatile for sure, you can add it confidently to an existing stereo system, or you can use it for starters and build a living room system around it. Whichever, it's been engineered throughout to take you in the direction of something very special, which we'd like to call a solidly satisfying world of stereo, this is what stereo should be-and this the way we've mixed and matched all the advanced electronics in the RX-402 so it comes out that way.

High Performance Sound- Oriented Tuner

We don't mean shallow words when we say high performance sound-oriented tuner. We mean things more substantial like an FM FET front end for outstanding sensitivity with very low distortion and excellent rejection characteristics. We mean ceramic filters and integrated circuitry in the FM IF section for stability and selectivity. We mean the things that mean high performance.

Extra Wide Linear FM Dial Scale

The extra width of the linear FM dial scale is that something extra that's standard on all Rotel receivers. It makes for easy, precise tuning on the easy-to-see vernier scale.

Large Dual Function Tuning Meter and Large Tuning Knob

Clear indication of signal strength, and center tuning make for exacting accuracy, and so does the smooth flywheel action of the over-size tuning knob.

Advanced PLL-MPX for Improved Stereo Separation

Stereo separation isn't an abstract term created to confuse you. It's something very real, and you've got to compare the good with the bad to really get your teeth into it. Rotel makes it good , with PLL integrated circuitry and other improved circuitry in the MPX section. And in addition to effective separation over a wide frequency range, this circuitry also means excellent frequency response with distortion so low it's negligible.

High-power low-distortion power amp

The RX-402 gives you a split power supply and all directly coupled OCL circuitry with low-noise silicon transistors used throuhout for superb output; 20 W / 20 W RMS continuous power into 8 ohms at less than 0,5% T.H.D. both channels driven from 20 Hz to 30 kHz.

Electronic Protection Circuit

This is automatic resettable protection circuitry that protects your speaker system from overload. It's also protection for electronic components in DC circuits.

Technical refinements include a precision tape transpport mechanism for accurate, transparent sound reproduction from all your favourite cassettes. An electronically controlled high-torque DC motor minimizes Wow and Flutter. To maintain optimum distortion-free musical reproduction. RD850 uses a Sendust record/play head. Exceptionally hard, durable and ideally suited to recording and playback applications. Sendust is the material of choice for high-performance cassette decks and gives RD850 an extra dimension of quality and musiclity.

Like all components in the critically acclaimed Rotel line, RD850 emphasizes performance, reliability, ease of use and attractive styling. It is an excellent complement to other models in the Rotel hi-fi range of quality audio equipment and represents outstanding value .

Dolby Noise Reduction

A severely limited Signal-to-Noise Ratio (in the 50 to 55 dB range with perhaps a 10 dB peak) has always been an inherent weakness of the cassette format. While the dynamic range of most live music lies in the area of 70 dB to 80 dB, cassettes with no noise reduction are capable of a 65 dB dynamic range at best.

Dolby B was a dramatic breakthrough in increasing dynamic range by lowering the noise threshold by up to 10 dB in upper frequencies (where tape hiss is concentrated). With the advent of Dolby C, a 20 dB improvement in Signal-to-Noise Ratio is possible, with NR extending a full two octaves beyond the range covered by Dolby B, and Dolby C delivers much more stable and accurate  response in the higher frequency ranges while eliminating harmonic distortion.

RD850 incorporates Dolby C NR to give you the full benefit of these significant developments. Dolby B is included to make RD850 compatible with the everincreasing library of pre-recorded tapes encoded using this system.

Rotel RC-1000 pre amplifier

Rotel RC-1000
A stereo preamplifier/control center featuring a ten-octaave graphic equalizer with center frequencies of 32, 63, 125, 250, 500, 1 k, 2k, 4k, 8k, and 16 kHz. Other features include; a magnetic phono input with selectable loads of 35 k, 50 k and 70 k ohms; a moving coil (MC) phono pickup input; automatic dubbing from/to either of two recorders; and a subsonic filter for the phono input.
There are inputs for magnetic phono, MC phono, tuner, aux, and two tape. One set of stereo line level outputs is provided.
There are controls for volume, balance, ten equalizers, tape monitor/tape dubbing selector, and phono input load selection. Switches for power, octave equalizer on-off, subsonic filter, stereo/mono mode, loudness compensation, 20 dB audio muting, and input selection. Two switched AC outlets are provided.
Performance. The rated output is 1 volt, and all tests were conducted at thic value. With the equalizers in the center,, or Off, position, the frequency response measured ±1 dB from 20 to 20,000 Hz frequency. The output clipping level measured 4,2 volts, with a worse-case distortion of 0,8%.
The equalization range for each equalizer control was nominally ±12 dB at the center frequency. The worse-case distortion with full equalization applied and no more than 1 volt output measured 0,05% T.H.D. the equalizers are relatively broad band and can function either as graphic equalizers or standard tone controls if two or more controls are used to contour the frequency response. Because of their broad characteristic, the equalizers avoid the usual "peaky" midband equalization generally associated with octave equalizers.
The subsonic filter, which is in the phono channel, provides 6 dB attenuation at 10 Hz with absolutely no effect from 20 Hz up. The magneti input hum and noise measured 70 dB, stereo separation was into the noise level.
Overall dimensions are 16-15/16-inch (wide); 3-27/32-inch (high); 11-13/32-inch (deep). Weight is 10,8 lbs.
