What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Pioneer SA-600

A practically-prieced, medium-power solid state stereo amplifier with wide power bandwidth and frequency response.
This handsomely styled unit from Pioneer is perfect for the serious stereo enthusiast who is building his system within a stipulated budget. At a very practical price,  the SA-600 provides a host of imortant features and a lot of professional performance that will do musical wonders for any home stereo system. Its circuits use only long-life, low-noise silicon transistors, and thus the frequency response and signal-to-noise ratio are superb. The unit is also very versatile, in keeping with the Pioneer audio philosophy of giving the most for the consumer's money. You may use up to two tape decks or two speaker systems with the SA-600, and you may also adapt the unit for multi-amp use.
More for yo our money? The SA-600 is probably the finest value in a medium-power amplifier now available. Take a listen.
 Direct Coupling Preamplifer Section
The equalizer circuit of the SA-600 uses two-stage direct-coupling negative feedback circuits with low-noise silicon transistors. Use of these circuits means that the amplifier delivers an extra-wide dynamic sound range. Then the tone control section of the SA-600 employs low-noise silicon transistors. You may increase or decrease the audio signal delivered to the amplifier step by step with each click-stop. Rate of attenuation is indicated on the front panel. Finally, harmonic distortion with this amplifier is negligibly small, while signal-to-noise ratio is excellent and stable.
 Stable Power Amplifier Section
The power amplifier of the SA-600 is quasi-complementary design, single-ended push-pull circuit that insures virtually distortionless sound reproduction and a wide frequency response. Music power output of this unit is big compared to similarly-priced units, upp to 100 watts at 4 ohms, IHF. With both channels driven, continuous power output is 19 watts each channel at 8 ohms. And in the critical 20 to 20,000 Hz frequency range, both channels driven, the unit delivers 13 watts plus 13 watts at 8 ohms with THD measured less than 0,5%.
Two Sets of Input Jacks and Output Terminals
The SA-600 is equipped with two pairs of Tape, Phono and Aux input terminals to permit ease of tape-to-tape duplicating and to allow comparison of different phono cartridges. You may use any two tape decks - open reel, cassette, 8-track cartridge, etc. - connected simultaneously with the amplifier. Additionally, you may use one microphone connected through the Mic input jack located on the front panel. The SA-600 is equipped to handle two sets of speaker systems which may be played simultaneously if desired to enable you to compare the tonal qualites of each system.

Pre/Main Amp Separator Switch
The preamplifier and main amplifier sections of the SA-600 can be used separately by using the pre/main switch. By adding an electronic crossover network (Pioneer model SF-700 or SF-500) and one or more power amplifiers, you may also adapt your music system to a multi-amplifier stereo system.

Other Features
The SA-600 has both high and low filters to eliminate unnecessary noises without tonal deterioration. The unit is also equipped with a loudness contour switch and mode switch.
