Pioneer
Tangential Tracking
The most
accurate way of playing a record is with a tone arm that remains always tangent
to the record groove, since this is how the groove was cut. Only a tangential
tracking arm can do this.
A tangential
tracking arm, when properly designed, engineered and manufactured, eliminates
skating force and lateral tracking error, along with the excessive, often
irregular record wear they cause. At Pioneer, we have successfully devolped
just such a tangential tone arm. It uses a non-contact linear motor for smooth,
vibration-free, lateral movement.
Compare the
Pioneer tangential-tracking tone arm to competing versions. Others depend on
vibration-prone motors driving rollers, worm screws or pulleys. In terms of
performance, there's simply no comparison.
Four
advantages of tangential-tracking tone arms
1 - Lateral
tracking error, for all practical purposes, remains zero throughout play. Thus,
intermodulation distortion is avoided.
2 - There is
no inward skating force, making an anti-skating system unnecessary.
3 - Lateral
balnced is ideal
4 - The arm
can be short, thus reducing effective mass.
