What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Kenwood KW-6044

Surround Sonic Stereo Tape Deck Model KW-6044
Kenwood's premier attempt at 4-channel reproduction with its unique four independent pre-amplifiers, the KW-6044 also includes an especially engineered playback head for ultra-high signal-to-noise ratio performance plus extended frequency response. The KW-6044's built-in 4 independent VU meters and level controls guarantee top-flighy accurate channel balance. Its motor offers stable ratation, low-low wow and flutter, and only the tiniest vibrations. The revolutionary space sounds are perfectly enjoyable.
 Special Features:
4-Channel Reproduction
The KW-604 is capable for the complete playback of discrete type 4-channel tape as it has 4 independent pre-amplifiers. The especially engineered playback head ensures superb performance with high S/N and extended frequency response. The exciting surround sonic effect is fully enjoyable.
Perfect Checking System
The 4-channel reproduction requires precise and severe blance check between each channel level. KW-6044 is quite ready for getting and monitoring the ideal channel balance, thanks to the built-in 4 independent VU meters and level controls.
Responsible Driving Motor
The newly designed driving motor is used in KW-6044. it  provides stable rotation with low-low wow and flutter and far less vibrations. Its supporting method-one point at the center-is also very effective for minimizing the operating noises.
Tape Selector
The recording and playback charactereistics of the regular tape and low noise tape are considerably different. The KW-6044 is equipped with the Tape Selector which gives the suitable recording bias frequency to each tape. The superb efficiency of the current low nooise tape is fully enjoyable.
Headphones Jack
By the front/rear switch attached, the performance of each channel can be monitored through headphones.
2-Channel Recording
The KW-6044 features the precise individual level controls with indicating lamps which permit to enjoy complete 2-channel recording. The recording condition can be the separated recording and playback heads.
