What is stereo?




There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Pioneer CS-5 loudspeaker

High performance Bookshelf Type 2-way Speaker System

The CS-5 is a superb, two-way, air suspension speaker system from Pioneer, the world's largest manufacturer of quality high fidelity speakers. It is an intermediate sized bookshelf system with a specially designed acoustic suspension woofer and a newly developed cone tweeter. Uniquely efficient for a system of this type, the CS-5 is still capable of handling 25 watts with remarkably smooth, linear response over the audible frequency range.

 

These speaker units are of unusually high efficiency, making it possible to reproduce sound at large volumes with relatively small power inputs, resulting in considerably lower distortion levels than is possible when amplifier - or receiver -  must be operated at increased power . In addition, the lower power requirements of the CS-5 make it suitable for use with almost every amplifier, receiver, or similar component regardless of its power output. The CS-5 will perform brilliantly even connected to a tape recorder or high fidelity compact.

Cabinet

The cabinet is finished in a rich, oiled walnut, beautifully crafted. The grille cloth is a pebble weave, strikingly handsome against the chrome inner frame and the walnut of this enclosure. The grille is readily removable to permit inspection of the speakers or a change of fabric to complement any decor. The back of the enclosure is fitted with a wall hanger to permit installation in a hanging position on the wall in addition to the usual horizontal or vertical shelf positions. The shallow depth of the CS-5 permits easy placement in any bookshelf location.

Woofer

The woofer of the CS-5, developed specifically for this unit, features a newly designed cone that avoids break-up even at maximum power input, and has a specially developed cloth surround for greater compliance characteristics. It also features a high precision,long throw voice coil.  The resulting excellent bass is unique in an enclosure of this size.

Tweeter

An advanced design cone-type high frequency loudspeaker with excellent wide angle dispersion performance, this tweeter was designed to complement the woofer of the CS-5. the extremely linear response of this unit, together with its response to 20,000 Hz makes possible exceptionally brilliant, linear, and "transparent" sound, with unusual definition.

Power Handling Capacity

Despite the moderately compact size of the CS-5 it handles 25 watts with ease and without audible distortion.
