What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Tandberg Fasett loudspeakers

Living Sound Fasett - new concept in loudspeakers

With the Tandberg Fasett all the advantages of direct and indirect sound distribution can be exploited. In the concert hall the sound flows out from the instruments in all directions. It spreads out in the room, partly beamed directly at the listeners and partly reflected as indirect sound from the walls, ceiling and floor. the total sound in a concert hall is therefore a combination of direct and indirect  sound. the strength of the indirect sound in comparison with the direct sound depends upon the hardness of the reflecting surfaces - the walls, ceiling and floor. The sound reflected from a hard surface (glass, concrete) is stronger than the sound reflected from a soft surface (curtains, perforated tiles). With the Fasett this living "sound picture" can be re-created in the home.

Play with sound

Tandberg stereo-amplifiers have outputs for 4 loudspeakers (two for each channel in the stereo installation). When these 4 outputs are exploited with 4 loudspeakers, the "sound picture" can undergo a distinct improvement both in mono and stereo. With 4 loudspeakers it is possible to experiment with a combination of direct and indirect sound. The Fasett is shaped so that it can be tilted and turned to many positions. If two loudspeakers  are beamed directly towards the listeners, the other two can be directed to the side;  the back or upwards against, for example, a hard wall or a ceiling. These two loudspeakers will provide the indirect sound.

Technical Terms Bass Reflex

The Fasett employs a principle known as bas reflex. Simply explained it means that the sound radiating from the back of the loudspeaker cone is directed through a tuned duct so that it radiates from the front. It thereby boosts the ordinary radiations from the front of the cone. In this way the bass response in a limited tone region is reinforced. A further advantage resulting from this principle is reduced distortion. Be aware that the siting of a loudspeakers in a room also affects the strength of the sound in the bass region.

Sensitivity

An expression for the electrical power (operating power) that must be applied to the loudspeakers to reach a sound level of 96 dB (loud orchestra level) at a distance of 1 metre.

Maximum continuous power

The power that can be continuously delivered to a loudspeaker system without causing damage as a result of a high temperature in the voice coil.

Music Power

The power that can be delivered to a loudspeaker (a loudspeaker system) for a very short time interval without unduly raising the temperature or the distortion.
