The HD-540 features the Dolby System, designed to minimize annoying noise and tape hiss present in all tape recordings. A system so effective, it improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio 8 dB (from 50 dB to 58 dB with Dolby operating). The HD-540 with Dolby also reduces tape hiss level without effecting frequency response or adding distortion. The result : noise -free music. A rewarding experience.
Whatever the personal tape preference, the HD-540 is equipped for exceptional results with a tape bias and equalization control. This switch operates to change over the recording bias current, equalizer characteristic and recording level of the cassette deck depending on which type of tape is used; chromium dioxide, ferri-chrome or low/noise and high output or regular type cassettes. New ferri-chrome tape gives a wider dynamic range and less distortion producing a superior bass and middle frequency response.
for greater frequency response, durability and matchless recording results, this is the finest tape head made. A single-piece-core construction tape head manufactured under exacting conditions. Especially critical today due to the wide use of high-density chrome dioxide tapes. The advantages of this ferrite head are wide dynamic range , low distortion, and a high Signal-to-Noise Ratio. It is also built for long wear.
Servo Motor
A solid state synchronous DC servo-motor with servo circuit is used in the HD-540 to ensure constant speed revolutions, long-life and reduce noise. Other benefits of this precision-engineered motor are minimal wow and flutter figure of 0,11%
Employed in the HD-540 is an electronic sensor mechanism that automatically stops the motor and releases which ever function control is engaged. This feature saves consider able wear on the tape head, while it helps to prevent undesirable sound effects such as wow.
A convenient device for either recording or playback, the pause switch instantly and temporarily stops the tape. Commercials from a station you are recording can be eliminated.
VU Meters
To increase the accuracy of tapes recorded on the HD-540, Meriton has designed highly efficient VU meters for each channel. Designed with scales marked to permit visual confirmation of louder signals made necessary by the wider dynamic range of the new types of tape.
Quick review and cue buttons, to a fast way to locate a particular section of the tape. Press the desired button and tape will move forward or reverse while still in play position
