What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Pickering XV-15 Series

Pickering - the 100% Music power cartridge for those who can hear the difference.
With cartridge, the only track record that counts - is the sound.
To provide great sound, a cartridge should be able to deliver 100% music power, especially at the high frequencies.  Just like Pickering XV-15 cartridges do. You will hear the difference! Not an "oboeclarinetandflute" but an oboe, clarinet and flute. And gone is that disturbing masking effect over the music. The Pickering XV-15 cartridge produces the 100% music power needed to clearly delineate all of the instruments of the orchestra.  And only Pickering gives every XV-15 model a DCF (Dynamic Coupling Factor) rating to help you select the right one for your record player (just like a horsepower rating serves as a guide to the proper engine for a vehicle).
The New Xv-15 Micro-Magnetic DCF Series
The Pickering XV-15 Series is "Application Engineered" and each cartridge in the series is indexed with a DCF number. The Dynamic Coupling Factor is an index of maximum stylus performance when the cartridge is related to a particular type of playback equipment. This resultant number is derived from a Dimensional Analysis of all the parameters involved. To select a pickup for a professional manula turntable, with its sophisticated, dynamically balanced tone arm, tracking at an ultra-light force, a higher DCF index would be required than, say for a pickup to be used in an ordinary record charger. For maximum distortion-free response, this index to application relationship properly determines maximum stylus performance in your playback equipment. 100%  music power is assured at all frequencies - linear response from 10 to 20,000 kc virtually a straight line - due to the extremely low mass of it's movung magnetic system - 1/5 to 1/10 of ordinary pickups.
There are five DCF rated XV-15 models
Each is eqipped with the famous patented V-Guard "floating stylus' - the easily replaceable stylus assembly that protects the diamond and record while it plays. In addition each model includes the Dustmatic brush that automatically cleans the record groove while it plays.

DCF℠ 400 type AME

  1. Hello, I have a Pickering xv 15 with patent n ° 2917590. Nothing else is written on the cartridge. How do I know which type it is?
    Can you help me?
    Thanks,
    Luc.

    1. All the XV-15 cartridges themselves are pretty much functionally identical. The various models used different stylii to suit particular uses.
