AKG sets a
new standard in headphones technology.
An "acoustic lens" provides a new level of sound quality. Each
channel uses two transducers whose diaphragms form tangent planes to a
paraboloid as shown.
This
arrangement Focuses the sound waves at the entrance of the ear canal just like
satellite dishes or spotlights focus radio waves or light.
CAD methods have been employed to get the best
out of the interference patterns created by more than one sound source
radiating the same signal. The transient response of the K 280 parabolic has been optimized using the Wigner
distribution (a mathematical model of
sound) so high levels are no problem. This open-air design, being generously
ventilated, conveys a sense of space and clarity of sound.
