What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Yamaha T-1

 Yamaha T-1
The Yamaha T-1 is designed and built to deliver the kind of audio performance that more than matches that of recent model stereo amplifiers, especially in areas critical to the quality of reproduced sound. For example, the FM MPX demodulator - which determines the quality of FM stereo sound - is a Yamaha-developed, highly advanced DC-NFB-PLL switching circuit built around a DC amplifier of especially high slew rate. This new development holds distortion to below 0,3%, signal-to-noise ratio at least as high as 100 dB and stereo separation above 70 dB.
Another instance of the T-1's technical excellence is found in its advanced FM pilot cancelling circuit which tracks both the level and phase of the 19 kHz pilot signal and eliminates it completely befotre it reaches the switching circuit. This dramatically reduces the intermodulation distortion, enhancing the tuner's frequency response to an incredibile DC - 18,000 Hz.

More important, the superb audio performance of the T-1 is based on a minimum FM selectivity of 55 dB in the Local mode, thanks to Yamaha's FM IF Differential Gain Direct View Analysis. While the 55 dB selectivity is an excellent figure that guarantees superb audio performance from normal strength FM signals. The T-1 will automatically switch over to the DX mode when it detects enough interference to deteriorate the quality of the signal. In the DX mode, the tuner offers exceptionally high 92 dB selectivity, thus always assuring excellent audio performance above a prescribed level.
