What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Pioneer SA-700 amplifier

Model SA-700 is a powerful, 120 W integrated amplifier of exceptional flexibility. New advanced circuitry for new levels in distortion-free stereo.

Pioneer  announcies a new kind of integrated amplifier. Designed to more than, meet all the demands of modern stereo, the SA-700 offers a combination of advances that were never available on unit before. First, there's power, a full 120 watts of non-clip music power ( at 4 ohms). Second, Pioneer, has used only the finest and most expensive materials, such as specially selected low noise transistors for the MC and front end sections, and FET in the control amplifier section. Third, the most advanced circuitry has been used throughout; a 3 stage E-S (emmiter-source) feedback circuit in the control amplifier is typical. Finally, this exceptional unit is exceptionally flexible. preamplifier and main amplifier can be used independently; there are inputs for a wide variety of cartridges, and two sets of speaker terminals. the SA-700 is truly for those who want to enjoy all the musical realism that modern stereophonic reproduction now makes possible.

Features

Preamplifier is composed of three precision made sections.

MC Section: using very special transistors, this section adequately amplifies low output moving coil cartridges. Very low noise level.

Front-end Section: using silicon transistors and a direct coupled 3-stage E-E feedback circuit, significantly superior stability and tonal quality results.

Control Amplifier Section: features FET and a direct-couples 3-stages E-S feedback circuit, high S/N ratio, and minimal distortion due to impedance variations.

Truly Precise Tone Controls

Despite their markings, most controls are very approximate. In fact, they are usually not flat even when set at flat. The SA-700 is radically different, set these tone controls at flat, and the signal really comes out flat. Accurate 3 dB step controls for wide range bass and treble adjustment.

Power-Packed main Amplifier

This superior main amplifier puts out 85 full watts at 8 ohms with distortion under 0,5% (IHF music power). That is more than enough to fill a concert hall. And with low-efficiency 4 Ω  speakers, 120 watts are available.

Independent use of Pre and Main Amplifier

This is possible by simply sliding a switch. Desirable for multi-unit systems, for controling an additional amplifier, etc.

Exceptional Flexibility -  unusual Range of Inputs and Outputs

The SA-700 features, for example, two phono inputs, and the second, by means of push-button selection, perfectly accomodates either a high output MM cartridge or a low output MC cartridge. Naturally  there's tape monitor for Tape/Source comparsion. There are also two sets of speaker outputs.

A Host of Audio Refinements

A few Pioneer extras include Hi and Low filters, a tested loudness control, and a special muting switch of -20 dB.
