The seven litre family from Royd Loudspeakers makes full use of the inherent theoretical advantages to be gained from small loudspeakers compared with larger units. These advantages are revealed by the fast and accurate bass performance coupled with very detailed and stable imaging.
In your choice of components for a hi-fi system please be guided by the basic rule that no component in the chain can improve the quality of the incoming signal. A loudspeaker can, at best , faithfully reproduce the signal provided by the amplifier. This does not mean that the choice of loudspeaker is unimportant but it does mean that if you choose a good amplifier you need good loudspeakers.
The Royd A7 loudspeaker
Exceptional bass performance, sensitivity and detailed reproduction are achieved in this small cabinet by using a unique development of reflex bass loading. A 70 mm diameter aluminium tube is bonded to the backplate of the bass unit and to the cabinet back. The arrangement of this tube cancels out, or damps, resonances in the cabinet and bass unit, acts as a heat sink to increase the power handling capacity, and provides the bass refles loading secondary chamber.
The bass/mid range unit and tweeter have been specifically developed to optimise the performance of this cabinet system.
The A7 design has been carefully adjusted to make the best use of the improvement in performance which can be obtained, by siting small loudspeakers on a bookshelf bet ween books, or on speaker stands, one inch to six inches away from a rear wall.
