What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

JVC KD-A11 cassette deck

Metal Cassette Deck - The Emphasis is on Economy and Performance
Why sacrifice metal tape capability and other state-of-the-art. Advantages just for the sake of saving a little money? This competitively priced model has metal tape capability and more, as well as good looks and simple-to-operate controls. And there's another reason why the KD-A11 is more popular than others in its attractive price range; it has high speed accuracy. JVC engineers have used a powerful silent motor and tigether with the accurate tape transport, wow and flutter has been reduced to a comfortably low level.

Metal Tape ready design

Of the four kajor types of tapes on the market today, metal tape far outdistances the others in offering low-noise/distortion performance with wide dynamic range and a high output capability. The KD-A11 is fully metal-tape compatible, having the JVC Metaperm head for recording and playback (it's made of a tough new alloy with very good electromagnetic characteristics), and a 2-gap ferrite head for erasure. A generous use of ICs throughout has helped us to expand dynamic range and reduce noise in the deck electronics.

Dolby B noise reduction makes music more listenable

All magnetic tape recording is prone to high-frequency noise (hiss) and cassettes are no exception. This noise is particularly annoying during the soft passages in music. But the KD-A11 has a built-in Dolby-B noise reduction systems, being compatible with JVC ANRS, it makes music more listenable by "dehissing" your tapes.

Automatic input select switching adds a few dbs of dynamic range to line recording

In many decks, plugging a microphone into the front panel jacks interrupts the line input to allow microphone recording. And when the jack is not occupied, the normal line signal still goes through the microphone amp on its way to the record amp. This result in more noise when you're recording from a tuner, amp, etc. Our automatic input select switching suystem means that only when a microphone jack is inserted does the signal feed through the microphone amp. At other times, the microphone amp is completely bypassed. This results in a higher Signal-to-Noise Ratio and wider dynamic range when recording line inputs.

Special features - Large VU s and silent cassette operation

The large VU s are calibrated up to +7 dB to indicate accurately even the high levels when recording with metal tape. They are well damped yet responsive enough so that you can read the average level moment to moment without straining your eyes. They are an effective tool against tape saturation and poor Signal-to-Noise Ratio.

Tape loading and unloading is simple and fast abd silent thanks to the JVC geared/oil-damped cassette door. It opens wide enough to offer full access to the heads for periodic cleaning.
