What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Luxman R-600

A line performance stereo receiver from Luxman in the medium price bracket.
Luxman R-600 Features:
Genuine 30 +30 watts into 8 ohms, both channels driven with less than 0,1% total harmonic distortion at any frequency 20 - 20,000 Hz
Wide and bright dial for easy tuning with signal strength meter for both FM and AM
Practical 2,1 µV FM sensitivity (IHF) thanks to MOS FET and Ics of high integration
Direct coupled amplifier yields power bandwidth of 10 - 40,000 Hz (0,3%,  -3 dB)

 Pre Amplifier Section
In addition to the ordinary BAX tone controls of NF type with defeat switch, low and high cut filters are provided for minute and versatile tailoring of reproduced sound. A loudness control is incorporated to boost both bass and treble at low volume levels.
Main Amplifier Section
Quasi-complementary direct coupled condenser output amplifier delivers 30W per channel RMS into 8 ohms both channels driven with low distortion typically under 0,1% at all powers and frequencies up to the rated output and ensures stable performance on even 2 pairs of low efficiency loudspeakers.

Tuner FM Section
At the front end 3-gang tuning condenser is adopted and good overload and image characteristics are procured in combination with dual-gate MOS FET used in the RF amp. And mixer circuit. Two ceramic filters featured in the IF circuit Ics with high degree of integration are used whose differential stage is utilized to gain good limiting. The Ics are featured in the MPX circuit and good separation exceeding 38 dB is attained at 400 Hz. The muting circuit is provided to remove inter-station noise which is controlled by the "AND" circuit composed by signal strength and centre tuning signals. The output of this circuit is used for gate signal to ensure pleasant command of muting circuit.
AM Section
A 2-gang tuning capacitor is used at the front end. Whole circuit is composed by a single piece of IC - where strong AGC is automatically put into operation, which ensures good overload characteristic as compared with the ordinary discreet circuit.

Styling
As the impeccable tradition of Luxman all important factors are taken into account, such as accessibility, soft feeling etc. The front panel is of light gold aluminium extrusion with hair-line finish and the housing is of dignified rose-wood.
The R-600 has a true value in every respect / quality, performance and beauty at such a modest cost.
