What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Luxman PD-272 turntable

Direct-Drive Turntable

A new direct-drive turntable from Luxman at a modest price. A brushless and slotless DC servo motor and a straight, low-mass tonearm offer superb Wow and Flutter no more than 0,03% and excellent Signal-to-Noise Ratio at 60 dB

Brushless and Slotless DC Servo Motor

Excellent woa and flutter characteristic together with stable rotation are assured by adopting a Brushless and Slotless DC Servo Motor in which slots are completely removed to eliminate unevenness of rotation caused by electro-magnetics, and further a turntable platter of high inertia makes it possible to distribute the large mass of platter weight around the outer contour.

Straight0Type Tonearm

A straight type tonearm is adopted to eliminate resonance caused by lack of intensity which tends to be found on the tonearm exclusively designed for high compliance type cartridge, and at the same time the root of the tonearm is of double-pipe structure to strengthen anti-resonance affect.

Further, the cartridge shell is integrated to the tonearm, thus resonance is suppressed down to the minimum. Also such problem as poor contact of cartridge terminals is removed.

Acrylic Dust Cover

For the dust cover, an acrylic resin is adopted which provides a very smooth surface and excellent characteristic against acoustic, feedback. The entire cover is detachable with semi-free-stop hinges.

Ultra Thin Type OI Core Transformer

An ultra thin type OI core transformer of the least-leakage flux, it adopted which is smoothly housed in the smart chassis. This contributes to the realization of stable rotation and excellent signal-to-noise ratio.

Platter Mat

The platter mat is so designed as to realize firm retention of the disc. To minimize unnecessary space between disc and platter mat, the plane is procured between the two by making the contour of platter mat suitable to that of disc.

Of course the platter mat not only damps discs but the platter itself thanks to high density rubber material, and further it is exactly inlaid to the turntable platter. The surface with special treatment ensures superb contact to discs.

Functions

A unique switch controls both power turn-on and turn-off and speed selection through the use of a single switch. A stroboscope of mirror reflex type, oil damped cueing system, anti-skating device etc, are all ideally arranged based upon human engineering considerations.

Luxman PX-99 turntable

Semi-Automatic Direct Drive Turntable

With the PX-99, Luxman has combined the most important features and performance with a striking and simple design.

The motor is direct drive, and has no noisy mechanical linkages and resonance-prone parts. It's also a quartz-locked motor, assuring you of accurate speed and stability.

The tonearm represents a new generation of low-mass, low-friction Luxman designs. It is statically balanced so you can adjust tracking force with exceptional accuracy. The headshell is low in mass, rigid, and removeable. And because the PX-99 is semi-automatic, the tone arm lifts off the record at the end of play, and allows the PX-99 to shut itself off.

A unique feature of the PX-99, when used with Luxman KX-Series cassette deck, the Auto Pause Output puts the cassette deck in the pause mode when the record has reached the end of play.

The PX-99 pays attention to everything that's critical in turntable design. Rumble is inaudible. Wow and Flutter can hardly even be measured. Tracking ability is flawless.

Features:

Optical Sensing Arm Lift System - when record playback is finished, the tonearm automatically lifts and shuts off the motor because the optical circuit senses the lift-off point, it makes no mechanical contact with the tonearm at all while playing records, so operation is smooth and accurate

Auto Lift Control Switch - the Auto Lift Control is useful for playback of records with a music groove engraved very close to the label. The tonearm is designed so it will not lift off, even at the innermost part of the disc.

New Static Balanced Straight-Light Tonearm - the PX-99's long straight arm has better trackability than the regular short S-shaped arm used on most turntables. It also has very low mass and low resonance. The Low Mass Arm realizes accurate sound reproduction even from high dynamic range, digitally recorded records.

Auto Disc Pause - when activated  a built-in circuit of the PX-99 automatically places your accompanying KX-100, KX-101 or KX-102 cassette deck in the pause mode from the record mode, when the record being taped reaches the end of play. Allows you to leave the system unattended while taping.

Generally speaking, manufacturers design a product and place great stress on cost performance and additional effort is paid as to where the compromise is made. In the case of audiophiles, importance is attached to what they seek or want to do rather than its cost.

This turntable Luxman now proudly announce is designed purely from the concept of audiophiles - slim and compact appearance, rugged construction resistant to howling and external vibration, arm base where one's favorite tone-arm could be fixed by a single touch and performance stability. Look at the internal construction and you will surely notice the above philosophy throughout.

Motor Suspension

The most unique feature of this turntable is the motor suspending structure. The robust chassis of aluminum die-casting integrates the tonearm base. For the upper panel, anodized aluminum of 3mm thick is used, which is, through rubber, fixed to the wood frame thus providing damping effect. Net weight is 13 kg (PD-121) and 11 kg (PD-131), which contributes effectively to prevent howling feedback or floor vibration.

Bayonet Mount Tonearm Base

A tonearm is not provided with the PD-121 (and PD-131). But the elaborate bayonet mount type tonearm base , similar in principle to that used in cameras, is adopted to ensure quick interchangeability of various famous tonearms with easy "one touch" operation

Unique Stroboscope

A unique idea is adopted for the stroboscope to ensure an easy and pleasant check of the turntable rotation. In order to make the stroboscope pattern very clear a black light tube is fired by very short duration pulses and a special "dayglo" paint has been used for the strobo markings. Further the line frequency indication can be identified by colour yellow for 50 Hz and yellow/green for 60 Hz.

Chassis, wooden frame and panel

Aluminum die-cast chassis with sufficient strength and weight, 3 mm thick anodized aluminium panel are firmly assembled together with rubber and elegant wooden frame with bumper effect which keeps this turntable immune from vibration

Insulator of Triple Structure

A special and unique insulator has been developed to ensure best possible anti-vibration. Each spring is damped by rubber, and the whole damper mechanism is suspended in silicon-grease. This is really and effective insulator and necessary compliance and damping effect are beautifully integrated.

Luxman PD-277 turntable

Fully Automatic Direct-Drive Turntable

Brushless, Slotless DC Servo Motor

The servo-controlled direct drive brushless DC motor with its gapless pole design is totally free from cogging or pulsing that plagues many other direct-drive turntables, ensuring superb Wow and Flutter characteristics. The high-inertia platter distributes its large mass evenly around the contour.

Straight Tonearm

The straight, statically-balanced tonearm has several important features. For exampling, the vertical pivots extend through the arm rather than simply suspending it from the outside. This minimizes lateral play, and assures that the stylus remains always perpendicular to the disc. Also, the arm's nested double-tube construction and internal damping deal most effectively with resonance.

The headshell is integrated to the tonearm. This system is much better than changing headshells, since it minimizes mass at the critical point of the tonearm, removing possible poor contact of the cartridge terminals.

Mirror Reflex Stroboscope

The unique stroboscope system of mirror-reflection type is featured, which makes it easy to adjust an accurate rotation speed.

Feather-Touch Operation

An electronic sensing system offers feather-touch operation of the auto-start and cut-off functions, giving no mechanical loads.

Platter Mat

The platter mat is so designed as to realize firm retention of the disc. To minimize unnecessary space between the disc and mat, the plane is procured between the two by making the platter contour match that of the disc.

This mat damps not only the disc but the platter itself thanks to its high-density rubber material, and it is exactly inlaid to the platter. Its specially treated surface ensures superb contact to the disc.

Dust Cover

An acrylic resin is used for the dust cover, which provides very smooth surface and excelent result against acoustic feedback. Simi-free-stop hinges make the entire dust detachable.

Other features

The power-on/off and speed selector, manual-auto-repeat selector, and auto-start and cut-off buttons are most logically placed in consideration of human engineering. Also, all the necessary functions are provided such as oil-damped cueing system, inside-force cancellor, etc.

Luxman T-12 tuner

The Accutouch system seizes the exact tuning point including that at the RF stage and offers total, stable reception even against ambient fluctuation.
In this system, the accurate center tuning point is detected by means of a control voltage at the quartz circuit, which activates a mechanical lock function. As the tuning knob is gradually turned to locate the FM station, a positive lock occurs for about 1 second at the exact tune-in point inclusive of the RF stage.
Generally speaking, a quartz-locked FM tuner has the advantage of offering very stable reception against ambient fluctuation such as temperature, etc. But this system functions to control only the local oscillator, and does not extend to the RF stage. Moreover, depending onn the method of tuning operation, tuning error is triggered at a max. 100 kHz, so that various characteristics are deteriorated (such as distortion, separation, rejection etc.) in other words, only our "Accutouch" makes it possible to make the most of the quartz lock system to prevent possible tuning error. When the power is turned off with the Quartz Lock on, the proper receiving condition is automatically obtained the next time power is turned on.

IF Bandwidth Selector
If the IF stage a 2-step bandwidth selectoris provided. In the "wide" position, 2 pairs of LC block filter are combined providing exceptionally good phase characteristics, and realizing ultra low distortion. Conversely in the "narrow" position a combination of block and ceramic ffilters achieves high selectivity.
The IF filters adopted here have excellent group-delay characteristics, however, to make the ultra low distortion tuner perfect, even small deviation of the components used should be controlled. Therefore to solve this, a phase compensation circuit is provided in the IF stage, and the units are checked one by one to realize excellent distortion characteristics.

Sonic Excellence
In the front end an exclusive FM 5-gang variable capacitor is used to make the most of the various superb characteristics in the IF  and following stages. Also high selectivity in each RF amp circuit ensures satisfactory interference rejection. In the detector circuit, a new quadrature IC and a special detector transformer are adopted to realize a low-distortion characteristic through wide bandwidth and high Signal-to-Noise ratio. Distortion at the detector stage has been suppressed down to a level below that of most test equipment. Thus no more than 0,02% distortion is realized for a deviation of ±50 kHz, or no more than 0,05% even through ±100 kHz.
A pilot signal cancellor circuit is arranged in the multiplex stage to improve frequency response and phase characteristics.

Works of Art. - introducing the hardware
The Fluency DAC is the heart of the Luxman DA-07 D/A Converter Unit, a masterpiece of electronic engineering and careful design in its own right. Luxman spared no effort on any aspecct of its massive anti-resonant construction, top-quality components, and capabilities, which include D/A conversion for CD, DAT, and digital satellite broadcasting and three optical and three coaxial digital inputs.
Likewise, the Luxman DP-07 CD Player sets a new standard for uncompromising quality of design, materials, and construction in pursuit of Ultimate Fidelity. Its top-loading design, a massive anti-resonant ceramic FRP base and diecast chassis, and the most elaborate damping system ever used in a CD player ensure that the GaAlAs laser pickup tracks flawlessly. As in the DA-07, unmatched purity of output signal is achieved through full separation of L/R power supplies and signal paths. In series with the DA-07, the DP-07 produces a sound of a totally different dimension from any other CD player. In sum, it is the only CD player that can claim to reproduce music as it was first played.

The Ultimate CD Player System
Luxman is so confident that the DP-07/DA-07 CD p;layer system will set a new standard for CD reproduction, it has already started to tackle the development of Fluency DAC-equipped CD players for more moderate budgets. For now, though, the choice of the ultimate CD player is a simple one. Listen and let your own ears help you decide whether you want the state of the art. Because until we can advance it any further, this is it.

A conventional DAC design applying Shannon's Theorem and a digital oversampling filter results in ringing distortions. These can be seen in the small ripples on either side of the musical signal. Ringing results in constant low-level noise and a perceived decline in dynamic range. These spurious signal also cause phase distortions during listening, detracting from the subtle musical harmonics that make music come to life. The Fluency DAC virtually eliminates ringing. A similarly dramatic improvement in reproduction is seen inn the square wave test.
Restoring the full musical spectrum
The advantages of the Fluency DAC are not limited to the elimination of phase shift and ringing. By accurately selecting musical signals at the input stage, the Fluency DAC produces an analog signal with more musical depth. Almost all music sources naturally contain a small but significant harmonic component at the upper limits of audibility. This component is critical to the soundstage localization and musical "ambience" that are essential for realistic reproduction. However, digital recording for compact discs is a pulse-code modulation process using a sampling frequency of 44,1 kHz, which effectively eliminates all musical signal from about 22 kHz on up. Moreover, conventional DAC's employ a filter that begins a steep cut-off at lower frequencies.

Luxman found an ingenious way to restore this missing musical ambience using the Fluency DAC. Because harmonics arise from basic physical laws and mathematical principles, the distribution of harmonics that occur in nature can be recreated. By carefully programming the digital input stage of the Fluency DAC, Luxman has succeeded in reproducing the rich ambience lost in the CD recording and playback.
