What is stereo?




There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

A Major Technological Advance in Turntable Engineering MT6225

 

The worlds first linear motor direct drive turntable

 

One of the problems in improving turntable performance, especially with direct drive systems, is the difficulry of reducing woa and flutter due to cogging action of the direct drive motor.

With its limited number of poles (usually 12) , a conventional direct drive system has an inherent problem, at its relatively slow operating speed, of low starting torque.

To solve these problems and improve turntable performance, Fisher has engineered the linear motor, 120 pole direct drive systems.

 


The Platter is The Motor

In effect, the platter becomes the motor of the MT6225. and Fisher's 120 pole design practically eliminates cogging action and wow and flutter - to a totally inaudible 0,03%

And the linear motor direct drive system further reduces turntable rumble to an extremely low -70 dB, so far below hearing level to be completely inaudible.

 


How it works

A continuous ring of magnetic material, containing, 120 magnetic poles, is attached to the inside bottom rim of the platter. As the platter rotates, each pole opposes one of the electromagnetic drivers on the base top. Each of the 120 poles is attracted or repelled  as it passes the driving electromagnets for smooth, stable operation.

An electronic sensing device monitors the platter's speed, and acts as a servo feedback control to maintain practically perfect speed accuracy. A built-in strobe and pitch controls are provided.

The speed accuracy of the system is independent of line voltage fluctuations.

 


The Arm

The handsomely styled Fisher MT6225 is equipped with a professional type horizontal and vertical gimbal suspended tone arm for performance commensurate with its technologically advanced design.

The arm accepts all standard cartridges. The auto-return system which returns the arm to rest at the end of a record is also an advanced design with no restraints on its lateral or vertical motion during operation.

The arm has adjustable tracking force with calibrated settings from 0,6 to 3,5 grams. There's also precise variable anti-skate, and viscous damped cueing. The MT6225 also has an aluminum alloy die cast platter, and a walnut grain vinyl veneer wood base.

Studio Standard Linear Direct Drive Turntable with Automatic program Select System and Remote Control

 

120-Pole 3-Phase Linear Motor Direct Drive System

Direct drive replaces the conventional transmission system that often gives rise to rumble and wow and flutter. But the Fisher linear motor puts the direct drive control to maximum advantage by dramatically simplifying it. In this advanced system, the truntable platter itself serves as the rotor of the motor, and all complex circuitry is mounted in the base of the turntable. A magnetic ferrite band with 120 poles embedded in it runs along the rim of the platter. Three field coils oppose these poles driving the platter with a constant force for smoother rotation. An electronic  servo system maintains this speed accuracy within narrow tolerances. The result of this elegantly simple design is impressive reliability and wow and fluter rating of a mere 0,03%.

Separate Platter and Arm Motors

The linear drive motor is freed to work on precision platter drive only while greater tonearm trackability is ensured by a separate motor incorporated to handle arem movement only.

The MT-6360 has a viscous-damped "floating" tonearm with a specially designed integral stereo magnetic cartidge,and there's even a muting circuit to eliminate that annoying "pop" you hear when the tonearm touches down.

 

The micro processor controlled turntable that automatically selects and plays the tracks you want to hear - Push the wirelles remote control button and select track1, track 2, track 4 or any other. The micro processor automatically moves the arm to play te selected track. You can repeat the same track, select another or play the entire record over again all by wireless remote control. And there's an LED readout to indicate the track being played. Since you can select the music you want to record, making tapes from  your record collection becomes easier and more convenient than ever before.

Fisher Direct Drive … the most technically advanced tape drive system
In the new Fisher DD280 cassette deck, Fisher has replaced the conventional belt-drive system with a high-torque 18-pole brushless, coreless, direct drive DC flywheel motor. The motor shaft is the tape transport capstan itself. The result is a silent, one-piece direct drive system that glides at a stable 360 rpm. Wow and Flutter: are reduced to an incredibly low 0,04%. Gone forever are belt wear problems resulting in speed change, belt breakage and replacement. For long term reliability direct drive is the answer.

Fisher's model MT-6330 "Studio Standard" semi-automatic direct-drive turntable makes use a linear drive in which the platter is actually the rotor of the motor. The Fisher XP-33 speakers


The Little Giant Speaker System is moderately priced, yet suitable for use with any high fidelity system. Its attracyive walnut frame and matching grille blend perfectly with any room decor. Here is a bone tide advancement of the state-of-the-art; the smallest high-efficiency speaker system ever designed. The Fisher XP-55 speakers

Compact Free-Piston Speaker System
Though it measures only 20" by 10" by 9" deep, the Fisher XP-55 incorporates a bass speaker that is very close to that of large speakers and at the same time free of artificial correctives like shaping networks that after the bass output of the amplifier.
This is an 8-inch unit with a magnet structure weighing 3 pounds, a flux density of 12,500 gauss and a totally new suspension system utilizing a long-throw jnverted half-roll surround. Free-air resonance is 33 Hz, an almost incredible figure for an 8" driver. The 2-1/2 inch tweeter has a new low-mass cone made of a combination of the usual fibrous materials resulting in peak-free response out to 19,000 Hz without coloration.

Fisher CR 4029

Recent developments have revolutionized tape technology. And all the technology is the new Fisher CR 4029. some of the new cassette decks offer one or two of these technological innovations - Fisher offers them all in one integrated package.
Two Speed Operation
You can use the CR 4029 at the standard 1-7/8 ips speed and you'll have outstanding recordings, or switch to the new high-speed 3-3/4 ips and get an incredible 30 Hz - 20 kHz ±3 dB frequency response (using normal tape). What's more, recording at high speed drastically reduces wow and flutter and tape dropout. Since a C90 cassette will record a full album at 3-3/4 ips, high speed recording is still economical.

Metal Tape
Another of the mervelous innovations is metal tape. Metal tape demonstrably improves frequency response. Combine it with the new high speed and you'll get a hard-to-believe 30 Hz -25 kHz ±3 dB frequency response with virtual freedom from distortion.

Three VHT/Sendust Heads with Dual process Dolby
All this new technology requires new recording, playback and erase heads. So Fisher engineers came up with our new VHT heads to bring out the best potential of metall tape and high speed. Because the CR 4029 is a three-head design, each head can be optimized for a specific function. There's wide 4 µm gap VHT record hesd for the best possible Signal-to-Noise ratio. A narrow 1 µm gap VHT playback head improves frequency response. And a Sendust alloy erase head overcomes the problem of hard-to-erase metal tape.
The separate record and playback heads allow you to monitor as you record - an absolute must for serious recording. And Dual process Dolby gives you the advantage of Dolby noise reduction in both the record/playback and off-the-tape monitoring mode.

The CR 4029 has all the options.
Why have only part of the new tape technology when you can have all of it? Use metal tape at the standard speed for high performance with long play. Or use normal tape at high speed for both economy and superior performance. Or  chose the ultimate metal tape at high speed.

The Fisher-Lincoln Model 70


 The Fisher-Lincoln Automatic Turn-Over Turntable Model 70
This marvel of American mechanical genius has at one strake removed the last barrier to the enjoyment of recorded music without interruption. For the Fisher-Lincoln model 70 plays one, or both sides at up to ten LP records - over eight hours of continuous music - automatically.
It handles 7", 10" and 12" records intermixed, in any order, 33-1/3 rpm. The only record on the turntable is the one actually being played. The turntable is of studio quality, belt-driven by a special SynDuction motor - fast start, plus constant, dead-accurate speed. Teflon bearings lubricated for life. Fisher 514

 The new Fisher  Studio-Standard 514 Stereo/4-Channel Receiver
Every Fisher receiver is designed for people who love to play music; but the new Fisher Studio-Standard 514 goes a step further. It's designed for the active audiophiles who get their kikcs out of playing with the music, the people who can't even wait to get a new component out of the box and up on the shelf before trying it out.  These are people who listen with their hands as much as their ears, and while others are snapping their fingers and stamping their feet, they're flicking switches, pushing plugs, and twirling knobs.
If you are as concerned with what goes on inside the box as you are concerned with what comes out, if you're still shifting speakers and splicing wires long after the party's over, chances are you just won't be satisfied by anything less than the Fisher 514.
 We left out nothing.
Both to keep up our reputation of having the latest and teh most, and to make sure that you can listen to as much 4-channel as possible, the 514 has a new CD-4 discrete disc demodulator as well as an SQ matrix decoder. CD-4 has the potential for greater channel separation than SQ. This means that the musicians and studio people can do trickier stuff, and that listeners can wander around the room and still hear everything in its proper position.
SQ is a cinch to broadcast on FM while CD-4 is just about impossible right now; SQ is used on many more records than CD-4, and the decoding circuit doubles as a 4-channel synthesizer for stereo recordings. With the Fisher 514 you do not have to make the difficult choice between CD-4 and SQ; we give you both.
 In addition to all the knobs and buttons you'd expect to find on any receiver of this caliber, the 514 has a sophisticated and highly useful "joystick" balance control similar to the pan pot used in professional recording studios. The joystick is much simpler to use than the two or four knobs found on most other 4-channel receivers, yet it permits extremely precise adjustments of the acoustical field to suit music, personal preference, room acoustics, or seating arrangements.
An elaborate tone control and filter system, centering on studio-style slide potentiometers, provides further fine tuning of the audio environment.
As you might expect, there are separate bass and treble controls for front and rear, but Fisher has added a midrange presence control, with maximum effect at about 1,5 kHz. It's just about the most useful and potent control you could add to a component, and can dramatically highlight a vocal performance against an instrumental background.
Although primarily designed as the control center for an elaborate 4-channel sound system, the 514 uses an exotic Fisher-invented "strapping" technique to combine front and rear amplifiers for stereo use, with a significant increase inpower over what you would expect by just adding up the per-channel wattages.
 What's inside.
Fisher has spared no effort to utilize the latest high-technology devices and manufacturing techniques in the 514. the FM tuner section incorporates dual-gate MOS/FETs. Lumped selectivity circuitry, and a ladder-type ceramic filter to provide the highest possible signal-to-noise ratio, interference rejection, sensitivity, selectivity, and immunity to overload. A Phase Locked Loop multiplex decoder insures high separation and low distortion through temperature changes and extensive use.

It comes from a fine family.
In addition to the 514, we're very pround of our new Studio Standard models 414 and 314. they have a bit less power and not as many controls, but the music is every bit as good.
If, however, you're not ready for, or not sure about, the new CD-4 system, we strongly recommend you consider our 504X, 404X and 304X receivers. They're identical to the "14" series models, except that instead of having a built-in CD-4 demodulator, they have space for it, and sell for $100 less. Should you wish to add CD-4 later on, any of our serice stations can do the job, and the total cost of the "04X" series receiver plud decoder will not exceed the cost of the complete "14". Anybody's 4-channel receiver can be converted to CD-4 with an external add-on demodulator, but Fisher accepts an  internal circuit board - for simplicity, convenience, and reliability.

The Fisher 50-C

 The Fisher Master Audio Control, Model 50-C has been designed to specifications so far beyond those of the ordinary unit of this type, that they will long serve as the ultimate standard of comparsion. In flexibility, flawless performance, beauty of appearance and workmanship, the 50-C is a masterpiece. In sctual use, its performance will be limited on;y by the quality of the associated equipment.
 The Fisher Model 50-C features high gain with extreme reserve output voltage. Intermodulation distortion is so low as to be virtually unmeasurable. The self-contained power supply, completely shielded with DC for all filaments, results in a hum level that is inaudible even under extreme operating conditions. The circuit is all-triode, with fully shock-mounted tubes. Cathode-follower input and two cathode-follower output stages assure isolation of all control circuits, plus independence from load conditions, lead lengths, etc. The Model 50-C can be used with any amplifier.

The Fisher Speaker System

 Illustrated is an articulateddual coaxial speaker systemshown in cutaway form to reveal its unusual design. It is the standard equipment on every Fisher instrument and combines a 15'' bass speaker with a horn-type high frequency speaker, both equipped with Alnico-5 magnetsThis system features smooth response, minimum distortion and exceptional polar distribution and presence. A dividing network is provided to channel the upper treble and overtones to the high frequency unit and middle and low tones to the massive bass speaker. A multicellular horn system is available optionally at additional cost.

Illustrated is the greatest development of the last ten years in fine  sound reproduction for the home. It is a multicellular-horn coaxial speaker utilizing two driving units. The larger is designed to handle with exceptional efficiency the first 5-1/2 octaves of he scale. The second unit, small in sizeis built with the microscopic accuracy of a fine watchThis mechanism converts to acoustic energy the rapid and delicate pulses of the higher tones and overtones. A nest of eightexponential horns diffuses the ordinarily bullet-like  higher tones over an angle of eighty degreesThis speaker system is optional equipment on the Fisher.
