What is stereo?




There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Mitsubishi M-F01 tuner


A miniature FM Stereo tuner with Mighty performance and Quartz-PLL synthesizer tuning.
The M-F01 FM stereo tuner not only guarantees absolutely free from tuning drift thereafter. Unlike conventional FM tuners, whose performance depends very largely upon how well they are tuned system ensures  that it can always without exception, give its very best performance.
The quartz PLL tuning system is the secret of how this exceptional performance is obtained. The quartz crystal gives an extremely accurate  64 MHz signal that is divided by 128 to give a basic 50 kHz frequency. Comparing this reference frequency with one-half the local oscilator frequency enables any phase difference between them to be eliminated, effectively locking them together, this circuit is the phase locked loop (PLL). Under its action, the local oscillator is limited to frequencies that are exactly 100 kHz apart - e.g. 98,7; 98,8; 98,9 MHz etc.
The total harmonic distortion is completely independent of detuning frequency over wide limits, unlike conventional tuners.
Like other members of the Microcomponent series, the M-F01 features unusually clear LED type indicators. Here the locktune indicator is linked with the dial illumination; normally the dial numbers are edge litin white , but as soon as a station is tuned and locked, this is replaced by a gentle green glow. The five Leds on the left indicate signal strength. The pointer lights on either side of the tuning lock indicator go on to show which way the tuning knob should be turned for perfect tuning. As soon as only the tuning lock LED is lit, tuning has been completed, and the stereo LED will go on if the fM station is broadcasting in stereo. Of course you can switch over to mono listening if the station is too far away for good stereo reception - although the M-F01 is so sensitive that this shouldn't happen too often.
Another useful control lets you mute out interstation noise and stations too weak for good reception, so that you only receive stations capable of top-quality reception.

Wide, Flat Frequency response
Most FM tuners have a filter to get rid of the unwanted pilot signal (at 19 kHz), but these also affect the musical signal with frequencies below 19 kHz. In the M-F01 the pilot signal is cancelled out completely without the use of a filter, so that frequency response is flat to within ±1db at 16 kHz.
High performance Front-end
The all-important front end , that captures and processes the signal uses the same high precision five ganged tuning condeser as the prestigious DA-F20. mitsubishi's top tuner, making for great accuracy and stability. The M-F01 rejects spurious signals very effectively thanks to dual gate MOS-FeT's in the RF amplifier and mixer stages, and utilizes four pole linear phase LC filters for low distortion. Outstanding temperature and humidity stability are ensured by the use of aluminium cored coils and teflon trimmer-capacitors in the local oscillator, and glass epoxy printed circuit boards, all representative of the state-of-the-art..
Recording level Check Signal
A test signal at 440 Hz corresponding to 50% modulation of the FM signal is provided for easy level setting when tape recording FM broadcasts.

Mitsubishi M-T01 cassette deck


In designing the cassette tape deck for our microcomponent series we have not been too concerned with reducing the size; instead, while maintaining the same attractive, warm champagne gold hairline finish we have designed it to the same dimensions as the M-A01 power amplifier
Front Loading Format
Rather than adopt the horizontal insert type of cassette loading often used on compact cassette formats ,  inconvenient for tape head cleaning and subject to tape snarl-ups, the M-T01 features frontal loading, with full tape visibility and a hinged tape head cover that protects the head assembly from dust and higes down for easy access.
Feather-Touch Microswitch Controls
For smooth and rapid switching between different operatingirectly. To go from fast rewind into the play mode  just press the appropriate feather touch microswitches; the changeover is almost instantaneous, with no tape spillage. All operations are just as simple and foolproof.
ASPS
Mitsubishi's automatic spacing pause system ASPS puts a few seconds of silent spacing between different music selections without having to alter recording levels or go out of the recording mode.
Closed-Loop Dual-capstan Drive
For the last word in stable tape drive, greatly reducing drop-outs and changes in level due to variations in tape tension over the heads the tape is held between two capstans and their corresponding pinch rollers on the take-up and supply sides, unlike the normal single-capstan plus pinch roller combination. The mechanism itself is mounted on a high precision die-cast metal base, and is highly resistant to vibration and other harmful influences. This, and a phase locked loop (PLL) with a quartz-crystal oscillator as the standard for controlling the speed of the DC servomotor, bring wow and flutter down to a completely negligible 0,05% WRMS. The recording/playback head is of sendust, with excellent magnetic and wear-resistant properties, and is largely responsible for the good frequency response.
Peak level Meters
The fast-response peak reading meters on the M-T01 make it easy to achieve recordings with the maximum of Signal-to-Noise ratio and the minimum of distortion by giving accurate indication of critical peak signal levels.

Advanced Features and Superior Performance
The DT-10 offers both excellent basic performance and great ease in use combined with the attractive lines of the whole Mitsubishi Audio Component line0up. Ultralow wow and flutter - only 0,06% WRMS; are ensured by the use of a DC servomotor with large (2-7/8") flywheel, a capstan circular to within a 0,3 µ tolerance, and a high precision drive assembly.
Special circuitry and selected components help to realize the full advantages of Dolby noise reduction. Mitsubishi's own ultralow-noise PNP-type epitaxial transistors are used in the first stage of the recording equalizer amplifier.

If you are an audio enginneer, you'll get the most out of the new Mitsubishi Dt-30 in a day or two. You get dynamics, fidelity, color and subtlety like you never dreamed of. If, however, you are merely a gifted amateur, it will take longer. Because the DT-30 is somewhat like a race horse. It runs best under a great jockey. Mitsubishi MS-40 loudspeakers

Mitsubishi Audio's MS-40 floor-standing loudspeaker system is a new top-of-the-line model that utilizes light and extremely rigid aluminum honeycomb in the woofer; the honeycomb is sandwiched between layers of glass fiber reinforced plastic to produce powerful bass response with excellent definition and clarity, according to the company. Ferro-nickel rings inn the woofer and midrange reduce distortion to a tenth of that in conventional designs. It's claimed, and a gain of 20 dB can be observed. The dome tweeter is nested in a cone-like recess to give a crisp, clear edge to transients and unusual smoothness to the highest frequencies.
The tweeter's edge material is of butyl rubber, which also permeates the foamed polystyrene that fills the cavity behind the hybrid dome tweeter. The tweeter also incorporates a drive magnet with very high flux density. A very sharp slope of 18 dB per octave for the high-pass filter between midrange and tweeter was selected as optimum. Inductors are dipped in special varnish to modify impedance characteristics of the crossover elements, capacitors with very low loss factors are used, and resistors are of special silicon-dipped material.
The speaker measures 15-3/8 inches in width, 15-5/16 inches in depth, and on its permanently attached base, it stands 34-5/8 inches high. If that's too tall for you, you can take the base off by loosening a set of holding screws.
The enclosure is finished in carefully matched walnut veneer, even on the front panel,, so you can play the speaker with the grille removed to show off its impressive array of drivers.
Its weight of 77 lbs, gives a clue too the solidity of the overall construction.

Vertical Format Linear Tracking Fully Automatic LSI Logic Turntable Unit

1 - Linear Tracking - A Major Advance in Turntable Performance
Many disc audition problems arise because conventional tone arms swing in an arc across the disc from a single pivot. This innovative unit features linear tracking with the stylus and tone arm traveling in a straight line across the disc, foiiowing precisely the same path as the head of the cutting machine that made the disc. The improvement in performance is clearly audible, and marks a moajor step forward in turntable unit design.

2 - The Linear Tracking Mechanism
To keep the cartridge stylus always precisely at right angles to the disc groove, two sensitive optical sensors detect the slightest deviation from the proper tracking position. The unbalanced signal from the two sensors actuates a servomotor that immediately moves the tone-arm base the correct distance in towards the center of the disc. Therefore, as the groove spirals inwards, the tonearm assembly moves across with it. This system is so sensitive that it can respond accurately to the differences in the pitch at which the groove was cut  (loud passages are cut at a larger pitch). The high precision servo-motor drives the tone-arm assembly via a specially wound stainless steel wire, wire tension is kept constant by spring loading and the servomotor rotation is applied by a worm type reduction gear. This system holds the tone-arm assembly firmly in position unlike linear motors where the assembly is free to slip and slide. The entire tone-arm assembly rides on a mirror finished high precision rod of nonmagnetic stainless steel, providing stability and rigidity.

3 - Low Tracking Error Means Superb Trackability
Conventional tone arms have tracking errors of several degrees. The LT-5V tracking error is never greater than ±0,1°, a dramatic improvement in the ability of the stylus to trace the groove accurately. The result is a reduction in distortion that shows itself in better definition of the stereo sound field and a more realistic recreation of the original atmosphere of the performance, with each instrument clearly located. All cartridges will benefit from this improvement the better the cartridge, the greater the advantage.

4 - A Short, Straight Arm with Fewer resonances
Conventional arms suffer two important disadvantages. In order to reduce tracking error, they have to be made as long as possible, and they have to set the cartridge off at an angle to the pipe (usually by putting an "S" or "J" bend in the pipe). Increased length means greater effective mass or, if a lighweight material is used in an effort to reduce mass, the tone arm has a stronger tendency to resonate. The short, straight arm of the LT-5V achieves greater strength and reduced resonances using a structure of stainless steel, giving a sound that preserves the full impact of transients and excellent definition right down into the deep bass region.

5 - Improved Stereo Channel Balance
Since the stylus is always at right angles to the groove, there are effectively no unbalanced forces on the stylus. Not only does this remove the need for inside-force cancellers. It also preserves channel balance and separation, ensuring much more faithful reproduction.

6 - Vertical Configuration Improves Feedback Margins
Vibration from speaker systems can sometimes cause acoustic feedback to the stylus tip and serious loss of high-level listening quality even when it doesn't result in a continuous "howl' that prevents normal listening. The vertical turntable configuration is much less sensitive to feedback than horizontal units because the vibration from the speaker systems is at right angles to the motion of the stylus in tracking the groove.

7 - Simple,Accurate Dial-Setting of Stylus Tracking Force
The tone arm hangs vertically down, statically balanced in all three dimensions for completely stable and accurate tracking of the groove. It is therefore able to follow even warped discs - and cope with vibrations - with much less tebdency to skip out of the groove.
The vertical format has another important advantage; since the weight of the cartridge itself acts at right angles to teh tracking forcee. It has no effect on it. So once the right tracking force has been set, there is no need to re-balance and reset it when swap ping cartridges. And the simple dial-setting adjustment of tracking force could hardly be easier to use.

8 - Record Clamp and Stabilizer
A spring loaded clamp secures the disc to the vertical turntable. Hinging completely out of the way for convenience, it snaps into position positively, and applies a slight pressure that brings the disc into contact with the dished turntable mat. It thus acts as a disc stabilizer, reducing vibration and improving the crispness of bass response. The upper edge of the clamp has a scale that corresponds with the scale above the tone-arm assembly. Use these two scales to locate any track you want to play,, and to guide the stylus precisely to the lead-in groove.

9 - Double Flywheel Drive System
In addition to the flywheel effect of the turntable itself there is a second counterweight flywheel. Together, they are accurately dynamically balanced for smooth and stable rotation, with high precision bearings.

10 - Fully Electronic Auto Control
The brain of the comprehensive automatic functions is an LSI computer on a chip specially developed by Mitsubishi Electric. It takes the signals from the push-button controls and from the photoelectric sensors that detect the presence and size of the disc on the turntable, and guides the stylus unerringly to the lead-in groove, automatically choosing 45 rpm for 7" and 33 rpm for 12" discs. It also enables a number of other useful and unusual automatic functions.

11 - Optical Display
LED indicators show the movement of the tone arm in real time, whether to left or right and up and down - they cease to indicate once the stylus is on the surface of the disc. The LED tracking error indicator gives a quick and positive indication of serious tracking errors. It is also useful in checking that the arm is hanging perfectly vertical.

 Linear Tracking - Significantly Improved performance
Like the top-of-the-line LT-30, the LT-20 uses the same Mitsubishi linear-tracking technology. Freed, by this important technical innovation from the tracking errors and unbalanced inside forces that affect conventional turntable units, there is a truly remarkable increases in the transparency and clarity of the audio image, and in the spatial definition of the stereo sound field. The stylus follows the same straight line across the disc as the cutting head that made the original master recording, so that tracability is at a maximum and distortion at an absoulte minimum.

The Linear-Tracking Mechanism
A high precision Dc servomotor drives a worm-reduction gear attached to a spring-loaded multistrand nylon coated stainless-steel wire to move the tonearm assembly. The whole system is located firmly in position, unlike linear motors where the assembly is free to slip and slide.
The precise amount of movement needed to maintain tangential tracking as the groove spirals inward is determined by two sensitive optical sensors. These detect when the tonearm moves even a fraction of a degree from the tangent position.
 Smooth, Stable Tracking System for High S/N Ratio
The signal-to-noise ratio of the LT-20 is an unusually high 75 dB (DIN-B) higher rhan many conventional turntable units, a tribute to the smooth, silent movement of the tonearm assembly on its precision runners.

Simple, Positive Adjustment
Adjustment of tracking force - often a problem on some competitive units - could hardly be simpler; a milled knob on the main tonearm assembly is used to zero balance the cartridge, and then the subweight is moved along the tonearm pipe to give the desired tracking force. The setting is easy to make, highly accurate, and readily visible.
Simple vertical adjustment of tonearm height is also provided, so that all cartridges can be accomodated with the tonearm perfectly parallel to the platter surface.
 High-Resolution Anti-Resonant Tonearm
The LT-20's linear-tracking tonearm is short and straight, unlike the long S- or J-shaped conventional arms. This , and the choice of stainles steel for the pipe - offering the ideal combination of rigidity and strength - gives a tonearm with an extremely low effective mass of only 13,9 grams,free of obtrusive resonances. The low mass makes an important contribution to the ease and accuracy of tracking, even with warped discs. A special filling of anti-resonant butyl rubber helps to reduce resonances still further, for the clean, clear-cut sound that distinguishes Mitsubishi linear -tracking turntable units.
The combination of a radial ball bearing and two wide span lateral pivot bearings ensures a stable, sensitive, low-friction assembly. Oxide-free copper wires are used to carry the low-current phono-cartridge signal to your phono inputs, ensuring minimum resistive losses and improved audio quality.
 Fully Automatic Control Using and LSI Computer on-a-Chip
Our first generation of electronic logic controlled turntable units used many individual Ics to give the new, user oriented features. The LT-20 uses a special purpose LSI device that gives flexibility, with increased reliability and a comprehensive range of automatic functions. As explained earlier in this catalog, it takes the signals from the operating controls and from the photoelectric sensors that detect the presence and size of the disc on the platter, and guides the stylus to the lead in groove. At the same time it chooses 45 rpm for 7" and 33 rpm for 12" discs.
Other functions are:
Auto lead-in :  press the start control and the tonearm moves to the first track on the disc, gently lowering the stylus to commence play.
Auto return :  at the end of the disc, the tonearm lifts and returns to its rest position.
Auto cut :  play can be ended at any point during disc audition.
Free access lead-in :  the stylus can be traversed to the left to start audition from the track of your choice. Speed of traverse automatically slows over the disc surface.
Auto repeat :  the same disc can be repeated as many times as you wish.
Lift-up and cueing :  the stylus can be alternately raised an lowered at the touch of a control.
Free travel :  the stylus may be raised and traversed freely to the left or right, from track to track at either of two speeds - fast for rapid approach and slow for fine positioning - by either pressing the controls continuously.
Quick response :  any movement except lift/cue of the stylus can be interrupted by a new command.
Stylus protection :  when there is no disc on the platter, the stylus will not descend and the tonearm will return to rest protecting the stylus and cartridge from serious damage.
 Platter Speed Under Quartz Crystal Oscillator Control.
The word 'Quartz" in the illuminated window at the center of the LT-20's control panel is your guarantee that platter speed is either 33 or 45 rpm - precisely. It illuminates as soon as the direct-drive motor speeds the platter  up to rated revs. A built-in frequency generator produces a frequency that is compared with a standard reference frequency generated by a quartz crystal oscillator.
A rapid response feedback circuit locks these two frequencies together so that the platter always rotates synchronously. The combination of the ultimate in accuracy with the simple, reliable and effective direct-drive mechanism ensures low wow and flutter both now and throughout a long useful life.

Mitsubihi DT-4550

 It is a stereo cassette deck which carries the Dolby circuit. 
The tape hiss noise is reduced by built in the Dolby circuit. 
The DC servo motor which built in the tachogenerator is adopted as a drive motor. This always controlled the number of rotations of the motor at fixed speed, and the stable tape run is realized. 

 The full auto stop mechanism which protects a tape is carried. If a tape finishes also in the case of "recording / play / fast forward / rewinding" throat, a pinch roller and a head block will be canceled automatically and a manual operation button will return. Mitsubishi LT-30

The LT-30 is a late mode linear tracking design, thus containing all the advanced technology for tracking precision. It tracks the record precisely as the original masters are cut; in perfect tangency with the groove for the absolute minimum distortion.
The LT-30, also known as the Diatone LT-3, was introduced in 1980 as the pinnacle of Mitsubishi ‘s Linear Tracking turntables. The goal of every linear tracking turntable is to mimic the position of the cutting head as was during the master cut, yet few can track as precisely as the LT-30. Straight-line tracking completely eliminates the problems of tracking error and stylus overhang. Anti-Skating correction is unnecessary because the system exerts no skating force. External forces acting on the stylus are in complete balance. Further, the tangential arm is much lighter than conventional arms, since it is much shorter. For these reasons, the LT-30 transliterates records with unprecedented clarity and amazing sonic accuracy.
