What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

JVC KD-A33 cassette tape deck

Metal-compatible cassette deck

If you've found that an affordable price usually means a sacrifice of performance, take heart. The JVC KD-A33 metal compatible cassette deck includes much of the technology found in our most expensive decks. Yet it happens to be one of our least expensive decks.

For example, it uses Sen-Alloy heads. These JVC-developed heads handle tremendously high currents with ease, so they're especially well  suited for recording and erasing metal tape. And SA's superb electromagnetic and physical properties give you accurate frequency balance, superb extension and low distortion through years of use.

When you use metal tape with the KD-A33, you'll get all the performance you expect from metal . But when your budget  dictates using a less expensive ferric-oxide tape, you can still get metal-like sound thanks to another JVC development - Super ANRS.

In recording, Super ANRE reduces the level of high-frequency signals so the tape can handle them without, saturating, in playback, it boosts them back to their original level. As a result, sounds like cymbal crashes, trumpet blast, and spoken sibilants (normally the downfall of cassette recording) are reproduced with astonishing clarity and fidelity to the original

And like our most expensive decks, the KD-A33 has logic-governed solenoid transport controls. You can switch directly between modes, even from "rewind" to "fast forward" with just a light touch of a switch. The KD-A33 also has provisions for adding a timer device and optional remote control.

JVC QL-Y5F turntable

Electro-Servo Fully Automatic Quartz Turntable

The Flagship of JVC's Fine Line of Turntable

Features

E-D Servo tonearm for reduced resonance

Double-Servo Quartz control

Cog-free coreless DC servo motor

Electronic resonance-damping, tracking-force and anti-skate controls

Computerized fully automatic convenience with repeat

The design objectives for our top-of-the-line turntable were simple; eliminate all unwanted resonance, speed error, noise and vibration while offering fingertip computer control convenience. The superlative QL-Y5F attests to our success, and we were able to make it beautiful to boot Read on.

JVC E-D Servo tonearm

A genuine breakthrough

JVC engineers isolated "tonearm resonance" as the most inimical of all conceivable resonance in a turntable, since it colors reproduction, adds distortion (particularly intermodulation) and prevents accurate arm tracking. JVC's E-D Servo tonearm solves the problem of "sympathetic resonance". See the full description of this remarkable tonearm on the next page.

The E-D Servo tonearm - construction

Two coreless linear motors are used in the E-D Servo tonearm. One, housed inside the structure positioned to the right of the vertical bearing, controls and adjust the arm's vertical position in relation with the record's surface. The other, positioned below the tonearm base, controls and adjust the arm's horizontal position in relation to the record groove.

Even warped records are no challenge to the E-D Servo tonearm

The E-D Servo system successfully damped the tonearm to shut out audible damage caused by low-frequency infrasonic and external vibration. The result is better record tracking, lower distortion a higher signal-to-noise ratio and even better Wow and Flutter.

Our Improved Double-Servo Quartz system has made speed control 30 times more accurate

Speed accuracy is nearly flawless thanks to the Double-Servo Quartz speed detection system for the platter motor

Coreless DC servo motor is cog-free yet powerful

Our coreless DC servo motor has no cores for cog-free, smooth rotation, yet has 50% more torque than conventional coreless designs, thanks to a push-pull drive circuit.

Up-front, light-touch controls and fully automatic operation for a unique operating experience

All the controls for this JVC masterpiece are on the front panel. All arm movements - up, down, left and right - are possible in the manual mode via light-touch buttons. Full automatic operation is supervised by a microcomputer and initiated by the Start/Stop button.

JVC QL-Y3F turntable

Features:

Electronic Tonearm technology Teamed with Quartz Precision

E-D Servo for horizontal arm movement

Double-Servo Quartz control

Cog-free coreless DC servo motor

Electronic anti-skate control

Computerized fully automatic convenience

It holds its own against the most expensive turntables on the market, even comparing favourably with the sophisticated QL-Y5F from which it borrows many of its features. Yet the QL-Y3F is priced well below the level set for professional equipment of similar specs and features. Speed error is practically nil thanks to the JVC Double-Servo Quartz detection system and our coreless DC servo motor; handling convenience is enhanced by fully automatic controls identical with those of the QL-Y5F, and the problems of spurious arm movements are solved with our E-D Servo tonearm

E-D Servo for horizontal arm movement falls resonance

A modified version of the JVC E-D Servo tonearm is at work in this model to keep horizontal arm movements under control. As in the more elaborate QL-Y5F, the arm base contains a coreless linear motor with a horizontal velocity detection system, intermodulation distortion is never a problem, since infrasonic signals (10 Hz or lower) are remedied harmless by this arm control servo. The system also applies an optimum amount of antiskating force.

Cogging is banished by our coreless DC servo motor

Cogging is the tiny fits and starts exhibited in the rotation of many electric motors. Our special servo motor has no core; thus cogging is banished. Platter speed is more accurate than ever. Reliable speed accuracy is further improved by our Double-Servo Quartz control system.

Up front controls are designed for one-touch fully automatic operation

A capable microcomputer, contained in a programmed-to-order LSI, coordinates all circuits and controls for error-free fully-automatic operation. Push a button and the automatic mechanism takes care of the rest; platter start, cueing, lead-in, lead-out and end-of-play shutoff. The-up-front controls are light-touch sensitive - truly luxurious.

Other features:

Repeat for uninterrupted playback of a record

Solid one-piece headshell doesn't rattle or resonate

Height-adjustable tonearm arrangement (±3 mm)

LED indicators for speed quartz lock and record size.

JVC L-A31 turntable

Auto-Return Direct -Drive Turntable

Features

Cog-free coreless DC servo motor

FG direct-drive system

Low-mass straight tonearm

Up-front controls

Auto return convenience and pitch control

Sharing many features with JVC's more advanced turntables is the L-A31. like every other JVC turntable, it has the JVC-exclusive cog-free coreless DC servo motor to smooth rotation and deliver high torque, and our FG direct-drive system to maintain speed accuracy. Rotational speed is constantly adjusted against any variations, whatever the cause. Our low-mass straight tonearm is consistent with current thoughts on the subject; low-mass improves tracking, allowing the use of even quality high-compliance cartridges. Its straight design further reduces mass and increases rigidity. Resonance is optimally just above warp frequencies while remaining below audible frequencies and our ultra-light non-resonating headshell is included. Operation is simple, convenient and smooth. Controls are up-front, outside the closed dust cover - even arm cueing. Cueing and end-of-play auto return are two amenities added to protect records and stylus. Record handling is reduced to a minimum. Other features are the built-in strobe and a pitch control for "tuning" your records. We're sure that feature for feature and spec for spec, there isn't a finer turntable available.

Auto-Return Belt-Drive Turntable

Features:

Quiet and accurate belt-drive

Precision synchronous motor

Low-mass straight tonearm

Up-front controls

Auto return convenience

The design objectives for our lowest cost turntable were for the most performance and features at a price easily accessible to anyone. Check the features and specifications of the L-A21 and you'll agree that we met all our design objectives. Our reliable belt-drive system eliminates vibration and noise and promotes smooth platter rotation. And our motor is an advanced synchronous type - impervious to changes in line voltage. Our tonearm, like those found on our more expensive models, is of a low-mass design for high tracking and low distortion while its straight tube design reduces spurious movement of the arm due to dynamic torsion. Our special headshell is non-resonant yet extremely rigid. We've also included a cueing device and the auto return mechanism. Like all its operating controls, the cue button is outside the closed dust cover so there's little chance of nudging the tonearm and damaging record or stylus . All in all, a great bargain at any price.

JVC CD-1770 cassette deck

For people who prefer to place their decks on an open shelf or table, the CD-1770 has the time-tested top-load design. Its reliable tape transport mechanism offers a low wow and flutter of only 0,12% (DIN 45 500) or 0,04% (WRMS). JVC's own ANRS/Super ANRS noise reduction systems. SA (Sen-Alloy) record/playback head, 5-LED Multi-Peak indicator and other numerous technical features assure exceptional versatility and dependable performance.

Finest Tape Transport.

The exceptionally low 0,12% (DIN 45 500) wow and flutter in this fine deck is mainly credited to the use of a frequency controlled DC servomotor. It provides more stable and higher torque and less speed deviation than AC-operated motors. A dual-belt independent Drive Mechanism, another JVC-exclusive is also used to drive the capstan and the tape reels separately, thus preventing the vibration of the tape reels from affecting the capstan revolution. This further assures exceptional speed accuracy at all times.

Versatile Recording Aids

The CD-1770 offers JVC's 5-LED Multi-Peak Indicator in Addition to a pair of large level meters. This Indicator responds even to pulse-like peak signals of very short durations. Using the indicator and the level meters together will enable you to adjust the recording levels to the maximum and avoid distortion. There also are two pairs of recording level controls for MIC (DIN) and Line, to let you mix microphone signals with line inputs from any programme source of your choice.

JVC DD-9 cassette deck

Direct-Drive Cassette Deck. The Performance Approaching Open-Reel Quality

The JVC DD-9 is truly a deck worthy to be termed "professional", if there ever was one. Thanks to our own JVC-manufactured quartz-lock Pulse Servo motor, we've succeeded in practically eliminating wow/flutter; it's only 0,055% (DIN 45 500), the lowest figure ever achieved in a consumer cassette deck. This and other features help you get the highest level of performance - open-reel quality recording performance - from the compact cassette format.

Direct-Drive plus quartz-lock Pulse Servo motor equals (0,055% wow/flutter)

By linking our capstan directly to the motor shaft, we've eliminated all the linkages - belts, cams, pulleys, etc. - found in lesser decks that can create unwanted speed variations known as Wow and Flutter. The low-rpm motor, designed and manufactured by JVC, is used for capstan drive, it has completely eliminated tiny rotational fits and starts known as "cogging" that can audibly tarnish musical reproduction. A quartz-referred servo circuit has been added so that absolute speed accuracy is impeccable.

Computerized B.E.S.T. tuning system - the matchmaker

You can obtain flat response from 40 to 12,500 Hz with a tolerance of only ±1 dB, using just about any tape, all at the touch of a button. The built-in computer matches deck parameters - bias, equalization, and sensitivity - for each specific tape. Distortion and dynamic range are both optimized.

Three-head design specially configured for B.E.S.T.

As you tune the deck to the tape, you can actually attest to the system's effectiveness, for the DD-9 has separate record and play heads (JVC X-cut SA combination Rec/Play heads), allowing you to monitor the tape while you're recording. You can also witness the unusually extended highs, for each head is given an optimized gap.

Dolby C-type noise reduction: Inaudible hiss and distortion free "hot" passages

The newest circuitry from Dolby Laboratories is incorporated in the DD-9 - Dolby C-type noise reduction. At high frequencies, noise (hiss) is reduced by an additional 10 dB (to a full 20 dB of noise reduction)

Two-colour digital fluorescent level meters with peak-hold function.

They are electronically accurate and have a peak-hold function so that instantaneous transients may be analysed for proper level setting during recording.

Other features:

Two-motor full-logic control transport

Touch input volume control

Convenient Memory and Auto Rewind functions

DC amps

Lockable timer standby

Output level control adjusts headphone level as well

Recording mute, Output level control, Optional remote control (R-50E)

The JVC KD-95 employs two motors - a precision frequency-generator (FG) servomotor for capstan drive and a DC motor for reel drive, all operations are undertaken electronically by the JVC developed TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) IC which activates three electromagnetic plungers; a light touch of any control button allows you to move from one mode to another without having to go through Stop. Also, the deck's large flywheel - 80 mm in diameter - is coupled to the capstan to help reduce wow and flutter. And finally, a professional touch has been added to the KD-95; its head assembly has screws which allow the user to adjust the head azimuth, height and tilt.

Sophisticated Electronics

We used the best of JVC electronics technology in designing our top-of-the-line KD-95. first, its recording amp is formed of the 2-stage direct-coupled NPN configuration featuring high linearity. Second, its equalized circuit is of the DC feedback type for excellent transient characteristics and unmuddiet lows. Third, convenient Recording Equalizer and 400 Hz Signal Oscillator circuits are included.

Recording Conveniences

Inn JVC's "Real Time" pause mechanism, the heads are in contact with the tape even in the pause mode. The Timer Standby facility inside the KD-95 permits repeated, interrupted record and play - a feature rarely found on cassette decks. Also offered are two recording circuits, one for Mic/DIN input and the other for Line input, which allow you to mix microphone sounds with other sources. Plus a pair of rack-mounting brackets, which is a standard accessory in every KD-95.
