What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Lineage CP100 preamplifier

Many decades of leadership in American audio electronics.

Saul Marantz and John Curl create Lineage

Perhaps no man can be better said to represent the philosophy of excellence in audio than Saul Marantz. Many audiophiles and journalists consider him the father of high performance audio. The electronic components he created during the 1950's and 60's are considered classics - respected and in demand in the U.S., Europe and Japan.

In the 1970's, when Saul Marants was introducing the first Phased Array loudspeaker, a young electronics designer named John Curl was gaining international recognition for his innovative solid state electronics. These designs were also destined to become classics.

Some years later, Saul Marantz and John Curl have joined together in a new endeavor - one whose name, Lineage, reflects not only a distinguished history, but also a future of continued leadership in the American audio industry.

To create new classics for the 1980's and 90's, Lineage has brought together a multi-generational group of talented audio professionals. Their design brief is startlingly simple; To develop quality products of lasting value.

The CP100 Control Preamplifier, shown above, is the first of these new classics. The CP100 employs an innovative all-FET circuit topology and precision parts to assure true audiophile sound quality. It also offers a full complement of features, ease of operation and an integrity of construction that will provide years of musical pleasure.

Lineage components are made available through a network of experienced audio/video specialist. They are knowledgeable professionals who offer quality products, proper demonstration facilities and a commitment to after-sale service and support.

The first Lineage products will be available in late 1987. we hope that you'll take the opportunity to audition Lineage, the innovative audio company with many decades of experience.

Marantz Model 10 amplifier

Reference Integrated Amplifier

Model 10 is the new reference in amplifier design. Featuring a newly designed dual-mono symmetrical amplifier topology, it is the most powerful, highest performing Marantz amplifier ever.

From the triple-layer aluminum chassis with copper shielding to entirely original multi-layer PCBs, isolated sub-enclosures, and all new HDAM modules, MODEL 10 is the product of decades of expertise in audio engineering, setting a new benchmark with meticulous construction, state-of-the art technologies, and elegant design.

MODEL10 retains the sonic Marantz signatures of warmth, spaciousness, and resolution. However, advances in design and precise tuning by the Sound Master result in the purest expression of the Marantz sound ever. As a result, the listener experiences more detail, lower distortion, and higher dynamic range than ever before.

Designed with a brushed aluminum front, MODEL 10 is encased in a copper-plated, triple-layered chassis with illuminated mesh cover grille. Lighting inside the amplifier showcases the circuit boards, high-quality components, and specially designed transformer case. In a nod to the Marantz design DNA, MODEL10’s porthole houses a HD TFT Color Display for volume and input selection, along with a digital level meter that behaves like vintage analog meters.

MODEL 10 was conceived and engineered in our facilities in Shirakawa, Japan to deliver the highest performance.

Marantz Imperial 9 speakers

Mirror imaging is a unique Marantz attraction not found elsewhere. It is achieved by placing the mid-range and tweeter array of both speaker systems in a mirrored position (either both inside or outside of the speaker). By doing this, the stereo image and overall dispersion is exactly symmetrical giving you the most precise stereo sound and separation possible. The Imperial 9 and 8 may be used in the vertical or horizontal position. And mirror imaging is made easy, since the Imperial 8 is designed with a rotatable array, and the Imperial 9 is designed symmetrically. Mirror imaging, a sound feature that speaks for itself.

Marantz SD-60 cassette deck

Marantz design in cassette decks

Marantz design its cassette decks with the same attention to detail as its acclaimed CD players and Audiophile amplifiers. Top-of-the-range or high-value twin deck - high-performance cassette technology relies on a precision tape transport and perfect tape to head contact driving linear, wide dynamic range electronics.

Mechanical vibration too must be minimised. The SD 60, for instance, features a special cassette shell stabilising mechanism to reduce distortion from vibration. Solid, reliable mechanisms are used in all Marantz cassette tape transport with negligible wow and flutter.

Throughout the range super hard permalloy tape-heads are employed. This material is outstandingly wear-resistant - even with metal tapes. Tape heads are accurately profiled to give perfect tape to head contact for best low-frequency performance.

Replay and recording electronics are to the same exacting standards as our Audiophile amplifiers. Wide dynamic range and low distortion are the sound quality goals.

Dolby HX Pro

Dolby HX Pro is a head-room extension system for cassette tape recorders. The treble content of a music signal can self-bias the tape during recording. With fixed bias this means that the tape is never correctly biased as the treble content of the music changes. Conventional cassette decks constantly under and over the bias tape during recording thereby changing the frequency response potential of the medium.

HX pro exploits this fact by adjusting bias and equalization dynamically during recording. The treble content of the signal is monitored and bias current is kept in line with what is required. HX Pro helps Marantz cassette decks deliver maximum dynamic range with the greatest fidelity irrespective of the signal being recorded. This system is used during recording only and its benefits can be enjoyed on any deck on which the HX pro recorded tape is replayed.
