What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Dahlquist M909 loudspeaker

The Dahlquist "M Series" ends the need for compromise. Originally designed for recording and broadcast studios, several models can now be offered for home use because of new techniques. In the Dahlquist tradition, the M Series solves many of the problems that still degrade the sound of other speaker systems. The Dahlquist M Series loudspeakers are the first fully enclosed systems to reproduce all the of the subtle, low level details of the music in the midst of extremely high level music signals. The reproduction of such dynamic shadings makes music come startlingly alive.

The Dahlquist M909

The M909 is a unique blend of technologies. This three-way system has the Dahlquist Un-Box enclosure and critically matched loudspeaker drivers, as do the other members of the M Series. But, in an exciting departure, the M909's specially designed midrange driver shares the cylindrical loading originally developed for the DD-20. as a result, the M909 not only gives the listener superb performance throughout the audio range it gives an extra measure of performance in the critical midrange, where most of the music "happens".

By using two matched high speed woofers, the M909 is able to deliver exceptional power in the bass and mid-bass regions. This brings home the type of sound power felt at a live concert -  and typically missing from home listening. These dual matched woofers have the additional benefit of providing a seamless transition to that all-important midrange.

Further, the M909 recreates a sound image of exceptional fidelity. The M909's reproduction of soundstage height, width, and depth draws the listener into the performance. These outstanding capabilities are apparent as life-sized images in space.

Thus, for the first time, experienced listeners can have it all-from a single loudspeaker system that fits in almost any size room, be it an intimate studio with a modestly powered receiver or a living room of generous proportions with high-powered, state-of-the-art electronics.

One of the hallmarks of Dahlquist loudspeakers is the coherency of the total sound. The M909's four drivers blend together seamlessly. As a result, harmonic relationships are accurately preserved. Individual instruments, and especially the human voice, retain their own distinct characters.

Naturally, as is expected from a Dahlquist loudspeaker system, the M909 incorporates as advanced and remarkable anti-diffraction technique which enhances accurate stereo imaging and greatly contributes to open, spacius, and accurate sound reproduction.

Dahlquist M907 loudspeakers

Ask any true audiophile and you'll be told that Dahlquist's legendary DQ-10 influenced a whole generation of loudspeakers. It showed a whole generation of engineers that some of the  classic problems in loudspeaker design could be solved. For the first time, a multi-way dynamic system eliminated the "boxy" sound that had plagued speakers. It did this by controlling diffraction (the delayed emission of sound from cabinet edges and surface discontinuities near each speaker driver) and by virtually eliminating the box. The DQ-10 made an enormous impact when it was offered to an eager public and remained the system of choice for 14 years. Today, the DQ-10 has been succeeded by the DQ-20 which represents the choice for music lovers who insist on having the best there is.. Now, Dahlquist offers a series of audiophile-quality loudspeaker systems at modest price, making Dahlquist performance available to many more music lovers.

The Problem

Speaker systems confined to enclosures have essentially been compromises between high efficiency with wide dynamic range on one hand and smooth, linear, low coloration on the other. Sadly, the latter required a sacrifice of dynamic range and efficiency.

The Dahlquist Solution

The Dahlquist M Series ends the need to compromise. Originally designed for recording and broadcast studios, new techniques now make it possible to offer several models for home use. In the Dahlquist tradition, the M Series solves many of the problems that still plague other speaker systems.

The Dahlquist M Series loudspeakers are the first fully enclosed systems to reproduce all the of the subtle, low level details of the music in the midst of extremely high level music signals. The reproduction of such dynamic shadings makes music come startlingly alive.

The Dahlquist M907

The M907 is a unique blend of technologies. This three-way system has the Dahlquist Un-Box enclosure and critically matched loudspeaker drivers, as do the other members of the M Series. But, in an exciting departure, the M907's specially designed midrange driver shares the cylindrical loading originally developed for the DQ-20. as a result, the M907 not only gives the listener superb performance over a wider range of frequencies, it gives an extra measure of performance in the critical midrange, where most of the music "happenes".

But, the M907 doesn't stop there, it recreates the original positions of the musical instruments with exceptional fidelity. Further, the M907's reproduction of soundstage height, width, and depth draws the listener into the performance. These exceptional capabilities are apparent as life-sized images in space. If a first audition suggests a traditional low-efficiency design, don't be foolded. Experienced and demanding listeners are surprised by the way the M907 delivers all of the music's dynamic shading when driven with even a medium-powered amplifier or receiver.

And it still doesn't stop.

One of the hallmarks of Dahlquist loudspeakers is the coherency of the total sound. The M907's three drivers blend together seamlessly. As a result, harmonic relationship are accurately preserved. Individual instruments, and especially the human voice, retain their own distinct characters.

Naturally, as is expected from a Dahlquist loudspeaker system, the M907 incorporates an advanced and remarkable anti-diffraction technique which enhances accurate stereo imaging and greatly contributes to open, spacious and accurate sound reproduction.

Dahlquist M905 loudspeakers

Dahlquist demonstrated conclusively that some of the classical problems which plagued the delivery of music in the home could be solved. The Dahlquist DQ10 remedied the problems of diffraction distortion and thus made an enormous impact when it was offered to an eager public. It remained the system of choice for many years. Today, it has succeeded by the DQ20, which is eagerly sought by music lovers who insist on having the best there is. Now, Dahlquist  offers a series of highquality speaker systems at modest prices, making Dahlquist  performance available to many more music lovers.

In the Dahlquist  tradition, the M Series solves many of the problem that still plague other speaker systems.

The Dahlquist  M Series loudspeakers are the first to reproduce all of the subtle, low level details of the music in the midst of extremely high level music signals. The M905 is capable of reproducing the most exquisite nuances available from analog sources as well as the peak high level signals from digitl sources.

The M905 delineates soundstage height, width and depth. Its exceptional capabilities are apparent as life-size images in space. A first audition suggests a sophisticated, low-efficiency design. Thus, most experienced and demanding listeners are astonished when they realize the efficiency of the Dahlquist M905

The M905 maintains the traditional Dahlquist  virtues of coherent driver blending and faithful reproduction of harmonic relationships. Moreover, when challenged to reproduce voice, the M905 does so with astonishing ease and accuracy.

Of course, as you might expect from a Dahlquist  loudspeaker system, the M905 incorporates a new and remarkable antidiffraction technique which enhances accurate imaging and contributes to open, spacious, accurate sound reproduction.

Dahlquist M903 loudspeakers

Dahlquist offers a series of audiophile-quality loudspeaker systems at modest price, making Dahlquist performance available to many more music lovers.

Speaker systems confined to enclosures have essentially been compromises. The designer has had to juggle the speaker's ability to handle the music's dynamics with the equally desirable, qualities of smooth, linear, low-coloration frequency response. Sadly, the latter usually requires a considerable sacrifice of dynamic range.

The Dahlquist Solution

The 'M Series" ends the need for compromise. Originally designed for the stringent demands of recording and broadcast studios, new techniques now make it possible to offer several models for home use. In the Dahlquist tradition, the M Series solves many of the problems that still plague other speaker systems. The Dahlquist M Series loudspeakers are the first fully enclosed systems to reproduce all the of the subtle, quiet details of the music in the midst of extremely loud musical in the midst of extremely loud musical passages. The reproduction of these dynamic shadings makes music come startlingly alive.

The Dahlquist M903

The M903 is remarkable compact loudspeaker system. Alone with the other members of the M-Series, it has the Dahlquist Un-Box enclosure and critically matched loudspeaker drivers. The M903's high efficiency and wide dynamic  range let even modestly-powered receivers and amplifiers deliver the startling impact of the newest digital Compact Discs. Yet, unlike many other compact speaker systems, the M903 doesn't sound small. far from it. The key to such remarkable performance is balance. By critically matching the key elements-loudspeaker drivers, crossover network, and enclosure - Dahlquist has achieved a rare combination of small size and superbly balanced sound.

The M903 shares its startlingly precise stereo imaging with the other loudspeakers in the M Series. It's wide, three-dimensional soundstage and stable, precise placements of the musical instruments from side-to-side and front-to-back help to draw the listener into the music.

One of the hallmarks of Dahlquist loudspeakers is the coherency of the total sound. The M903's two drivers blend together seamlessly. As a result, harmonic relationships are accurately preserved. Individual instruments, and especially the human voice, retain their own distinct characters.

As do all Dahlquist loudspeaker systems, the M903 incorporates an advanced and remarkable anti-diffraction technique which enhances accurate stereo imaging and greatly contributes to open, spacious, and accurate sound reproduction.

Dahlquist DQ-10

Critics and audiophiles agree - the listening quality of the DQ-10 is unexcelled. What accounts for its superb performance?
Time - Much credit for its smooth coherence must be given to the precisely matched transient characteristics of the five drivers. And, a good deal has been written about the DQ-10  and its extraordinary solution to the problems of time delay or phase distortion. It is not surprising that other high quality speaker designers have followed suit in offering their versions of time delay correction.
… and Time Again - The real "secret" to the unprecedented performance of the DQ-10 lies in Jon Dahlquist's patented method for reducing diffraction, a more audible and destructive form of time distortion. The separate baffle plate on which each driver is mounted is dimensioned to minimize diffraction in the frequency band in which it operates. Thus, the effect of the sound we hear is that of a driver mounted in free space, without obstructions or surfaces to distort the original sound source.
it can be said that the DQ-10 eliminates inaccurate reproduction caused by time elements - inertial time delay, and diffraction time delay - distortions that limit the performance of conventional speaker systems.
"That's why the more critical listener will select the DQ-10. Time and time again".
What accounts for the superb performance of the DQ-10?
The precisely matched transient characteristics of its five drivers are one reason. The rugged crossover, using oversize components and now equipped with mylar capacitors is another.

But the DQ-10 reproduces music with unprecedented clarity and spaciousness. The explanation lies in Dalquists solution to the problems of time delay and diffraction delay distortion.
Here is the speaker system that eliminates inaccurate reproduction caused by time elements.

Conventional Driver Mounting - in a common flat baffle. Smaller drivers have lower mass and shallower cone surfaces. High frequencies arrive earlier than lower frequencies, harmonic overtones before fundamentals. This is time delay distortion.

The Dahlquist Solution - With Phased Array™ Mounting, drivers are positioned so that all frequencies (fundamentals and harmonic overtones) reach the listener at the same time. Musical sound is in phase.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Diffraction Delay Distortion - In conventional speaker systems, sound wave energy radiates across the speaker baffle to the edges of the cabinet and is diffracted. These secondary signals create unnatural exponential decay and destroy clarity and spaciousness.

The Dahlquist  Solution - In the DQ-10, the staggered baffle plates are sized to minimize diffraction. It is as though the drivers are mounted in free space with no nearby obstructions to distort the pure sound source. Sound decays naturally.

Hi-Fi doesn't have to become "habit-forming". And yet, equipment which sounds fine when you first purchase it, often sounds "flawed" over time. Most likely, the equipment doesen't deteriorate - your listening becomes more acute.
The break the "speaker-switching habit", select loudspeakers that have demonstarated their ability to satisfy critical listeners over long periods of time. The Dahlquist DQ-10's have earned consistent "rave" reviews from their introduction in 1974 to this date.
You still may want to upgrade your system in the future, and Dahlquist loudspeakers are designed to grow with you. The DQ-10's interface perfectly with the Dahlquist DQ-1W sub-woofer. By using the Dahlquist MX-1 (Passive Matrixing Crossover), you can add a DQ-1W to your system without requiring an extra amp. With the Dahlquist LP-1 (Variable Low Pass Filter), you can add either 1 (mono) or 2 (stereo) DQ-1W's as part of a bi-amplified system.
