Electronics
The control system in the 9100X is an electronic brain with 14 high level logic, integrated circuits (IC’s). electronics has replaced mechanics, and each control is carried out firmly and precisely by a light touch on the keyboard 9100X “thinks for itself”. The electronics and the tape-tensioning mechanism always ensure that the tape is transported correctly. Connected to a remote control system (an accessory) all logic functions can be controlled from a distance of 5 meters. 9100X has all the qualities that Tandberg tape recorder are renowned for; echo, recording with sound-on-sound, A- and B-test of programmes. The B-test is a particularly important feature because it facilities close control of recording quality. There are 4 input controls, 2 for microphone inputs and 2 for line input (radio with record player or another tape recorder), and sound sources in stereo or mono. The microphone inputs in 9100X are balanced. This means that unwanted electrical noise from e. g. vacuum cleaners or foodmixers does not affect the recording.

Tandberg Crossfield Recording Technique
This is a special recording technique found only in Tandberg tape recorders. With this technique the tape is magnetized right through and is therefore capable of receiving very strong signals and reproducing them as crystal clear sound without distortion. The Tandberg Crossfield recording technique provides a safety margin against overload, particularly in the highest tone register which is the most critical region when recording.

Peak Level  Meters
The level meters are in the professional class. They always shows the strongest part of the sound – exactly that part which becomes distorted if the magnetic tape is overloaded. With the Tandberg Crossfield recording technique and the peak level meters you can fully exploit a tape’s qualities.

Photo-electric Stop
The forward drive stops automatically at the end of the tape or if the tape is transparent

Monitoring During Fast Winding/Editing
This functions (Edit/Cue) facilities listening to the tape during fast winding or rewinding. Consequently it is easy to find your way on the tape and to edit the recordings

Professional Mechanics
Correct reproduction demands high accuracy in the design and construction of the tape path. Therefore the complete tape guidance system in the 9100X is mounted on a stable base plate which ensures that the tape is correctly guided passed the magnetic heads. There are 3 motors – 2 for winding in either direction and one for forward drive. The winding motors work also as mechanical breakes. Together with the closed loop and the magnetic controlled friction breakes they ensure gentle treatment of the tape.

Cross-Field Head

On conventional recorders the signal and bias are applied to the same recording head. Therefore the frequencies recorded, especially the high frequency component of the recorded signal tend to be attenuated or erased by the effect of the bias field.
On the exclusive Akai Cross-Field Head which was developed by Akai for practical use the signal and bias heads are mounted in opposition with their centers slightly off. As the recorded signal is entirely unaffected by the prevailing effect of the bias field, the tape can be recorded over the entire frequency spectrum with maximum fidelity.

Sensing Tape Continuous Reverse

Automatic reverse with metallic sensing tape is used for playback only. Reverse operation will occur when metallic sensing tape on pre-recorded tape makes contact with the Sensing Pin. Put metallic sensing tape at the desired reverse point on shiny side of the pre-recorded tape and another metallic sensing tape at the desired reverse point on dull side of the pre-recorded tape. The X-200D will then give continuous playback in both directions between two points.

Manual Reverse
The X-200D may be manually reversed by pushing the Reverse Buttons.

Tandberg Series 6000X reel-to-reel

The new tape recorder Series 6000X is designed for the world's most discriminating markets, and is in a class by itself when it comes to quality, precision and sound reproduction. Tandberg Series 6000X Stereo has a modern design. The operational devices are clearly arranged and in spite of its numerous technicalities the tape recorder is simple and easy to operate.

Series 6000X Stereo is a fully transistorized stereo recorder with 3 speeds: 7-1/2, 3-3/4 and 1-7/8 ips. It is intended for use together with separate hi-fi amplifiers and has therefore no built-in power amplifiers. There are separate heads for recording, playback and erase, plus a bias head. Two moving coil meters indicate recording levels. These instruments also indicate the output level at playback.

The recording is based upon the Tandberg Cross-Field technique, giving sensationally good specifications for frequency range and Signal-to-Noise Ratio. Inputs for dynamic microphone, line, radio, magnetic and ceramic pick-up. Limiter prevents excessive input signal levels during recording. Listening during fast wind and rewind if desired, makes it easy to locate a programme on the tape.

Professional tape recorder users will appraise the merits of Series 6000X Stereo. Mixing possibilities in stereo with separate input controls (2 for each channel), microphone with pick-up, line or radio. 4 input controls for mixing in mono. AB-test,  - that is you can listen to a programme during recording (monitoring). And you can also listen to the playback during recording. Possibilities for "Sound-on-Sound" copying of a programme from one track to the other, and mixing in a new programme synchronously with the first one. Possibilities for echo and other trick recordings.

Tandberg 6000X Stereo has one-lever control of tape drive, push-buttons for electrical functions and track selection, illuminated 4-digit revolution counter, automatic end-stop, pause=button and possibilities for remote control of start and stop.

Tandberg Series 6000X Stereo is available in 2- or4-track versions, in teak or rosewood cabinets.

Crossfield Technique

The technique employed by Tandberg introduces a separate bias head which thoroughly magnetizes and reduces the recording zone on the tape as well as wavelength dependability losses in the record function. In turn, the need for equalization in the record amplifier as well as distortion in the ultimate recording is reduced. Consequently, Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Dynamic Range and Record Frequency Response are all vastly improved. The fact that Tandberg designs and manufactures its own heads further crystallizes the ultimate potential of each Tandberg recorder into an optimum range. Therefore, it becomes evident why Tandberg's position as the world 's leading producer of tape recorders remains unmatched in the world today.

Akai 1730D-SS reel-to-reel

4-channel / 2-channel Stereo Tape Deck

An entirely new world of sound has been created by Akai's electronics engineers who have developed a new and sophisticated line of 4-channel surround stereo equipment. Included in this line are the exciting 1730D-SS 4-channel/2-channel Stereo Tape Deck and 1730-SS 4-Channel/2-Channel Stereo Tape recorder.

With either system, you're completely surrounded in sound with four speakers, left and right in front, and left and right in the rear. This system gives you a real "sense of presence", the feeling of being exactly in the middle of a live performance. Both models are designed to be used for not only 4-channel stereo but also 2-channel stereo as well.

The 1730D-SS is perfectly matched with Akai's exclusive AA-6100 amplifier. this amplifier has 80 W music power for dynamic 4-channel stereo sound and accommodates both 4-channel and 2-channel stereo operation.

Akai's dependable 2-lever system complements the high grade parts and robust construction of this rugged 4-channel/2-channel stereo model

It is regular practice to employ mechanical control in one-motor tape decks.  Akai has long since employed this 2-lever system in our one-motor decks. When compared to an ordinary 1-lever system, because the Play/Rec and F.Fwd/Rew Levers are independent, the movable range of the levers are shorter, and operation is lighter. Also, because the F. Fwd/Rew Lever is separate, mis-operation is minimized. Further, because of the mechanical structure of this control system, other parts are not unfavourably influenced and mechanism endurance is extended. Rectangular shaped Control Panel with proportionately balanced controls.

Akai GX-280D-SS tape deck

4-Head 3-Motor Automatic Reverse Surround Stereo Tape Deck

Akai's GX Head 4-Channel Surround Stereo system eliminates the inability to pick up and reproduce true concert hall sound. Every pitch of sound and reverberation effect is reproduced with all of the exciting "sense of presence" experienced when attending a live concert. Akai's surround stereo supplements conventional stereo's two front speakers with two additional rear speakers to front the "2-2 system". The listener is surrounded by two sets of speakers (left & right front and left & right rear). This arrangement does not mean, however, that simply adding two speakers to a 2-channel stereo system is all that is necessary for 4-channel stereo playback. Four separate recordings are made using four individual channels (four tracks in one direction) of the magnetic recording tape. This 4-channel stereo tape feeds into four pre and main amplifiers to activate a 4-speaker system. Thus, at playback time, sounds from separate channels are emitted from each speaker providing the listener with a feeling that he is listening to concert hall sound from the best seat in the auditorium. Model GX-280D-SS is a compatible 4-channel/2-channel stereo model. For 2-channel stereo operation, only the front channels are utilized. For exciting 4-channel surround stereo, a 4-channel stereo external amplifier or two 2-channel stereo amplifiers can be used to activate a 4-speaker system.

GX (Glass & Crystal Ferrite) Head

Akai has equipped this model with its new and amazing Glass & Crystal Ferrite Recording and Playback heads to bring you unequalled open reel high fidelity sound. With the Glass & Crystal Ferrite head, superbly wider frequencies with clear highs can be recorded in all their true fidelity with low noise tape. In other words, with the GX head, a high dynamic range and excellent Signal-to-Noise Ratio are achieved. The secret of this quality head is made of single crystal ferrite and is mounted and set in glass. The superior high range characteristics are contributable to thw structure of the head gap which focused the magnetic field into a sharp oblong radius. This focused field recording system minimizes high frequency loss, eliminating undue equalization and achieving a wider dynamic range.

AC Servo Motor Direct Capstan Drive System

6 Head system Automatic and manual Reverse Recording and Playback

One each GX forward recording, GX reverse recording, GX forward playback, GX reverse playback, forward erase, and reverse erase head make up the superior GX Head reverse recording and Playback system of this model. The quality and special process of the GX Head materials result in a wider dynamic range, better high frequency characteristics and tone quality and longer lasting performance. Manual Reverse Button and Automatic Sensing Tape Reverse completely eliminate the necessity of inverting reels by hand.

Symmetrical Head Block Layout for identical performance in both directions.

The arrangement of the head block is completely symmetrical in relation to the center capstan. The short and equi-distant tape path within the head block and between heads and reel tables on both sides assure identical performance in both directions. Tension Arms on both the take-up and supply reel sides provide perfect tape tension, also contributing to operating stability.

AC Servo Motor for capstan drive, Wow and Flutter reduced to 0,06.

The GX-265D employs a 3 motor drive system with a new AC Servo Motor for direct capstan drive, Rubber belts, flywheels, etc. are eliminated for reduced interference. This coupled with the center capstan system of this model reduces wow and flutter to an amazing 0,06%.

Microphone/Line Mixing

Individual Microphone and Line Input Level Controls and a built-in mic-line mixing circuit facilitate easy sound mixing from two separate sources.

Quick Pause Control

Depress the pause Switch to immediately suspend reel movement. When Pause mode is effected, the pinch wheel separates from the capstan by only 0,5 mm for a quick and smooth start when released. Especially convenient for editing tape.

Dual Monitoring

Tape/Source Monitor Switch enables comparison of source signals with just records signals for more professional recording results.

Automatic Stop

The Tension Arm/Stop lever drops at the end of the tape, activating an automatic stop mechanism which completely stops reel movement for operating safety.

Individual Track Selectors for Monaural or Stereo Preformance

Recording mode can be effected using individual left or right channel selectors or both channels simultaneously. A Recording indicator Lamp lights to confirm recording mode.

Output Level Control Enables Connection with any Amplifier

An Output Level Control facilitates adjustment of output level to correspond with your amplifier input.
