Tandberg Series 6000X reel-to-reel
The new tape recorder Series 6000X is designed for the world's most discriminating markets, and is in a class by itself when it comes to quality, precision and sound reproduction. Tandberg Series 6000X Stereo has a modern design. The operational devices are clearly arranged and in spite of its numerous technicalities the tape recorder is simple and easy to operate.
Series 6000X Stereo is a fully transistorized stereo recorder with 3 speeds: 7-1/2, 3-3/4 and 1-7/8 ips. It is intended for use together with separate hi-fi amplifiers and has therefore no built-in power amplifiers. There are separate heads for recording, playback and erase, plus a bias head. Two moving coil meters indicate recording levels. These instruments also indicate the output level at playback.
The recording is based upon the Tandberg Cross-Field technique, giving sensationally good specifications for frequency range and Signal-to-Noise Ratio. Inputs for dynamic microphone, line, radio, magnetic and ceramic pick-up. Limiter prevents excessive input signal levels during recording. Listening during fast wind and rewind if desired, makes it easy to locate a programme on the tape.
Professional tape recorder users will appraise the merits of Series 6000X Stereo. Mixing possibilities in stereo with separate input controls (2 for each channel), microphone with pick-up, line or radio. 4 input controls for mixing in mono. AB-test, - that is you can listen to a programme during recording (monitoring). And you can also listen to the playback during recording. Possibilities for "Sound-on-Sound" copying of a programme from one track to the other, and mixing in a new programme synchronously with the first one. Possibilities for echo and other trick recordings.
Tandberg 6000X Stereo has one-lever control of tape drive, push-buttons for electrical functions and track selection, illuminated 4-digit revolution counter, automatic end-stop, pause=button and possibilities for remote control of start and stop.
Tandberg Series 6000X Stereo is available in 2- or4-track versions, in teak or rosewood cabinets.
Crossfield Technique
The technique employed by Tandberg introduces a separate bias head which thoroughly magnetizes and reduces the recording zone on the tape as well as wavelength dependability losses in the record function. In turn, the need for equalization in the record amplifier as well as distortion in the ultimate recording is reduced. Consequently, Signal-to-Noise Ratio, Dynamic Range and Record Frequency Response are all vastly improved. The fact that Tandberg designs and manufactures its own heads further crystallizes the ultimate potential of each Tandberg recorder into an optimum range. Therefore, it becomes evident why Tandberg's position as the world 's leading producer of tape recorders remains unmatched in the world today.

Akai 1730D-SS reel-to-reel
4-channel / 2-channel Stereo Tape Deck
An entirely new world of sound has been created by Akai's electronics engineers who have developed a new and sophisticated line of 4-channel surround stereo equipment. Included in this line are the exciting 1730D-SS 4-channel/2-channel Stereo Tape Deck and 1730-SS 4-Channel/2-Channel Stereo Tape recorder.
With either system, you're completely surrounded in sound with four speakers, left and right in front, and left and right in the rear. This system gives you a real "sense of presence", the feeling of being exactly in the middle of a live performance. Both models are designed to be used for not only 4-channel stereo but also 2-channel stereo as well.
The 1730D-SS is perfectly matched with Akai's exclusive AA-6100 amplifier. this amplifier has 80 W music power for dynamic 4-channel stereo sound and accommodates both 4-channel and 2-channel stereo operation.
Akai's dependable 2-lever system complements the high grade parts and robust construction of this rugged 4-channel/2-channel stereo model
It is regular practice to employ mechanical control in one-motor tape decks. Akai has long since employed this 2-lever system in our one-motor decks. When compared to an ordinary 1-lever system, because the Play/Rec and F.Fwd/Rew Levers are independent, the movable range of the levers are shorter, and operation is lighter. Also, because the F. Fwd/Rew Lever is separate, mis-operation is minimized. Further, because of the mechanical structure of this control system, other parts are not unfavourably influenced and mechanism endurance is extended. Rectangular shaped Control Panel with proportionately balanced controls.

Akai GX-280D-SS tape deck
4-Head 3-Motor Automatic Reverse Surround Stereo Tape Deck
Akai's GX Head 4-Channel Surround Stereo system eliminates the inability to pick up and reproduce true concert hall sound. Every pitch of sound and reverberation effect is reproduced with all of the exciting "sense of presence" experienced when attending a live concert. Akai's surround stereo supplements conventional stereo's two front speakers with two additional rear speakers to front the "2-2 system". The listener is surrounded by two sets of speakers (left & right front and left & right rear). This arrangement does not mean, however, that simply adding two speakers to a 2-channel stereo system is all that is necessary for 4-channel stereo playback. Four separate recordings are made using four individual channels (four tracks in one direction) of the magnetic recording tape. This 4-channel stereo tape feeds into four pre and main amplifiers to activate a 4-speaker system. Thus, at playback time, sounds from separate channels are emitted from each speaker providing the listener with a feeling that he is listening to concert hall sound from the best seat in the auditorium. Model GX-280D-SS is a compatible 4-channel/2-channel stereo model. For 2-channel stereo operation, only the front channels are utilized. For exciting 4-channel surround stereo, a 4-channel stereo external amplifier or two 2-channel stereo amplifiers can be used to activate a 4-speaker system.
GX (Glass & Crystal Ferrite) Head
Akai has equipped this model with its new and amazing Glass & Crystal Ferrite Recording and Playback heads to bring you unequalled open reel high fidelity sound. With the Glass & Crystal Ferrite head, superbly wider frequencies with clear highs can be recorded in all their true fidelity with low noise tape. In other words, with the GX head, a high dynamic range and excellent Signal-to-Noise Ratio are achieved. The secret of this quality head is made of single crystal ferrite and is mounted and set in glass. The superior high range characteristics are contributable to thw structure of the head gap which focused the magnetic field into a sharp oblong radius. This focused field recording system minimizes high frequency loss, eliminating undue equalization and achieving a wider dynamic range.

Hirsch-Houck Laboratories further noted. "The dynamic range, distortion, flutter and frequency response performance are so far beyond the limitations of conventional program material that its virtues can hardly be appreciated".
The Sony TC756-2 features a closed loop dual capstan tape drive system that reduces wow and flutter to a minimum of 0,03% , logic controlled transport functions that permit the feather-touch control buttons to be operated in any sequence, at any time without spilling or damaging tape: an AC servo control capstan motor and an eight-pole induction motor for each of the two reels; a record equalization selector switch for maximum record and playback characteristics with either normal or special tapes; microphone attenuators that eliminate distortion caused by overdriving the microphone pre-amplifier stage when using sensitive condenser mics; tape/source monitoring switches that allow instantaneous comparison of program source to the actual recording; a mechanical memory capability that allows the machine to turn itself on and off automatically for unattended recording; and a full, two-year guarantee.
In addition, the TC756-2 offers 15 and 7-1/2 ips tape speeds; Ferrite & Ferrite 2-track/2-channel stereo three-head configuration; and symphase recording that allows you to record FM matrix or SQ** 4-channel sources for playback through a decoder-equipped 4-channel amplifier with virtually non-existent phase differences between channels.
The Sony TC756-2 is representative of the prestigious Sony 700 Series - the five best three-motor 10-1/2" reel home tape decks that Sony has ever engineered.
