What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Diapason Dynamis

"Beauty lies in the balance between harmony of the whole and the proportion of the details.
Beauty is Harmony and from here we begin, to create a form which will provide the best musical reproduction.
The sound-stage will open up in front of you: imagine yourselves seated comfortably in the armchair of a theatre while you enjoy the artists` performance in a spectacularly involving way - from the most delicate single instrument up to the might of a full orchestra. You will be literally immersed in the flow of the music and transported into living the emotion."

The multi-faceted shape was the starting point in 1989 with the Diapason Adamantes , a model in continuous production longer than almost any loudspeaker in the world, and still today a reference for the listener who wishes to immerse himself in the emotion that it can provide. Adamantes is a legend whose evolution brings forth now another legend: Dynamis.
The 14 sides of Dynamis have proportions and planes carefully calculated to tune the loudspeaker, exactly in the manner of a musical instrument. Its carefully-studied form with just two parallel sides minimizes internal standing-waves and enables the drivers to produce linear emission with optimum dispersion in the listening area, thus giving a close approximation of the ideal single-point source.

DYNAMIS
The cabinet is made from high-density MDF using Diapason`s tried and tested assembly technology developed from years of building the Astera, Adamantes and Karis models.
A special GRP covering layer is then applied to give the loudspeaker long-term solidity as well as an improvement in sonic performance.
Italian Master Craftsmen - specialists in luxury finishing - then give the final touch to Dynamis by applying whatever colour or material that your imagination may suggest, to create in any listening environment a strong and original appearance statement.
Tradition and innovation blend together in harmony in the choice of technology for the drivers.
A large magnet system on paper Nextel coated midrange driver is used in order to have a very long coil excursion with very low distortion and an excellent transient response. Midrange is matched with an extraordinary silk soft dome tweeter provided by large magnetic flow; woofer completes the frequencies range giving a solid performance , impressive deep and controlled bass range performance.
The cross-over uses finest quality components and is built and wired entirely by hand in order to exclude any possibility of loss or phase rotation, and to ensure excellent dynamics under all conditions.
The quest for perfection is inherent in this loudspeaker and evident in the care taken with every detail.
The elegant connectors made by Diapason guarantee perfect contact with any system of cabling; the plinth is supplied with anti-scratch swivelling castors to make room placement easy, as too for the lower reflex port. The front baffle slope has been designed to allow pefect alignment of the drive units. The drivers are individually protected by a fixed, acoustically transparent grille which is attached to the loudspeaker by means of magnets, and which also enhances the beauty of the Dynamis design.

Diapason Reference Series

Form and material fi nd their perfect balance when combined by man’s ingenious intuition, like in the creation of musical instruments. Or when designing instruments for music reproduction. Adamantes III N.W. and Karis N.W. loudspeakers are worldwide unique: the cabinet is fully made in solid wood, following procedures and techniques that trace back from the tradition and knowledge of master craftsmen qualifi ed in the manufacture of acoustic speakers from generation to generation.

The multi-faceted diamond shape of Adamantes III N.W. and Karis N.W. was designed to provide a circular pattern of sound-wave emission from the loudspeaker, thus giving a close approximation to the theoretical ideal of point-source radiation. While listening to, the speaker simply disappears, leaving just the music and our emotion on the stage. The same multi-faceted shape is also found inside the cabinet. This gives very effective control of internal refl ection, while wooden structures of different thickness help ensure that the cabinet is virtually resonancefree. Simplicity, quality without compromise and the most advanced technological research are the guidelines in speaker design and in the choice of drivers and crossover components.

The DDD (Diapason Direct Drive) technology applied to bass unit has been developed during more than ten years’ experience in loudspeakers design, in collaboration with the best Northern European driver manufacturers. Thanks to DDD direct connection from the amplifi er to the bass driver is allowed without the use of a low-pass fi lter in the crossover. The result of this system can be heard immediately when listening: grater transient speed in low frequency range with no loss of sensitivity or phase rotation. The match with the treated silk soft dome treble unit will astonish the listener for its naturalness, realism, three-dimensional experience, and for its capability to return the full spectrum of musical information available during a live musical event. The completeness of all information available to our ears makes the listening experience with Adamantes N.W. and Karis N.W. full of emotion and acoustically detailed. The drivers, especially manufactured according to Diapason specifi cation, are performance-matched within a tolerance of less than 1% for loudspeakers best acoustic performance.

The 3/P stand (63 cm) patented design removes cabinet vibrations by transferring them away from the speaker to the fl oor through three steel support bars. The wooden 3 columns shape works just as external structure since the speaker is isolated from the ground by stell bars only. The 2/B stand (75 cm) is made of a heavy metal and wood structure. The 2/B is provided with 4 cm spikes under the bottom base, making the stand ideal for use on carpet floor.

The high-pass crossover circuit is hard wired with Van den hul CS cable in oxygen-free silver coated copper, eliminating deleterious sonic effect of printed-circuit boards. A stringent fi nal quality check is carried out before packing to ensure that every loudspeaker is in perfect working order. The original Diapason stands are recommended together with Adamantes III N.W. and Karis N.W., since they contribute to the superb sound and aesthetical value.

Front-ported centre-speaker, grants excellent results in voice reproduction, is a functional element in a multi-channel system, matching with Adamantes III N.W. and Karis N.W.

Diapason Ástera

Ástera

The new reference stand-mount loudspeaker designed by
Alessandro Schiavi in collaboration with Roberto Pasetti,
Ástera represents the evolution of the Adamantes III, renowned
and appreciated throughout the world for its exquisite
musicality and beautiful cabinetry.

Ástera`s cabinet is a work of great artistry, hand-made by the
finest Italian craftsmen whose knowledge and skill in this
traditional craft are handed down from generation to generation.
The multi-faceted diamond shape of the Ástera was designed
to provide a circular pattern of sound-wave emission from the
loudspeaker, thus giving a close approximation to the
theoretical ideal of point-source radiation.
The benefits will be appreciated during listening as the
loudspeakers themselves `disappear` from the musical scene,
providing the listener with a sensation of great detail and
realism within a solid and convincing soundstage.
The same multi-faceted shape is also found inside the cabinet.
This gives very effective control of internal reflections, while
the use of wood of different thickness for the structure helps to
ensure that the cabinet is virtually resonance-free.
The choice of drive units, crossovers, terminals and all ancillary
components for the Ástera project was made without
compromise. Only the finest components from the very best
makers were selected.

The loudspeaker drive units and crossovers used in Diapason
loudspeakers are the result of advanced research, and each is
tested and matched to closer than 1% tolerance to ensure best
performance and stereo balance.
The tweeter is a 29mm soft-dome unit with Hexadym magnet
and double damping and ventilation.
The woofer has a Nextel-treated paper cone with an injection
moulded metal chassis. The crossovers are hard wired
throughout using Van den Hul oxygen-free copper and silver
cable, a superior method which avoids the problems that can
affect even the best printed circuit boards.
Ástera`s ability to portray the full sonic spectrum of a recorded
musical event is a revelation. Music is endowed with natural
transparency, great detail and a correct and convincing
feeling of space.
Excellent too is the dynamic impact and the ability of the
loudspeaker to reproduce the micro-contrasts of instruments
and voices within a complex musical scene without ever losing
focus or coherence.

The 4/U dedicated stand for Ástera uses a resonance-damping
system already tried and tested with success on previous
Adamantes models. It relies for its effect upon the use of
different materials and the particular way in which they are put
together. The massive structure and considerable weight of the
stand makes the combination of loudspeaker and support very
stable to the benefit of sonic performance, especially in the
low register. The 4/U stand consists of four metal support
columns and side panels in real hardwood which together give
a pleasing look and great rigidity.
The height of the 4/U stands is 72cm, and adjustable spikes are
provided . The stand can be placed on a hard floor surface, or
on a carpet or rug.
