What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

McIntosh MC2505 power amplifier

Solid State Power Amplifier

New performance standards have been set by the new innovations in Solid State development by McIntosh. Hear new beauty and subtle delicate passages of music that until now have been clouded by lower performance standards.

First Solid State Power Amplifier with Full Power of 50 watts per channel at all speaker impedances of 4, 8 and 16 ohms

The new McIntosh model MC 2505 matches any speaker impedance of 4, 8  or 16   with full rated power. The newly designed McIntosh unity coupled auto former provides proper matching for all speakers or crossover networks. The auto former provides optimum speaker damping for precise control of overshoot and maximum clean bass response. Damping factor is greater than 25 at 4 , greater than 40 at 8 ,, greater than 11 at 16 .

First Solid State Power Amplifier using Precision Calibrated Output Level Meters

The Calibrated Power Level Meters provide continuous indication of how much power is being delivered to the speakers. The meter can be used for measuring other elements of your stereo system. These are not ordinary meters. McIntosh has again LED with a new concept in a meter circuit design.

Normal meter operation is frequency discriminating. Not so the McIntosh Power Monitor Meters. Careful engineering has produced peak locking meters with a Time Stretching Circuit, that permits the meter to follow peak program material with an accuracy better than 2%. You can now know the complete performance of your music system.

First Solid State Power Amplifier with McIntosh "Panlock" front panel mounting

The McIntosh MC2505 mounts conveniently in a panel with "Panlock" mounting shelves.

First Solid State Basic Power Amplifier with McIntosh "Performance Reliability" Sensor Circuits

New McIntosh "performance Reliability" sensing circuits assure constant year-to-year performance of your solid-state amplifier under all types of use conditions. Instantaneous electronic sensing of amplifier output and load conditions rigidly maintains top amplifier performance. Ther are no fuses in speaker line to worry with and no special backup caution needed. A thermal-sensing unit on each oversized heat sink gives additional reliability control.

Electro-Voice T35B Driver

 Super Sonax Very-High-Frequency Driver

The human ear delights in the variety of sounds resulting from the widest range reproduction. This wide range response delivers also the subjective illusion of reality. Extended high-frequency response in the last audible octaves is made necessary still more in the accomplishment of musical balance with the augmented bass range of present speaker systems of the folded corner horn and phase loaded type. Here fundamentals of the first audible octave require flat response in the high range to the limit of audibility, or aesthetic appreciation of the source material suffers from unconscious listener fatigue caused by the imbalance.

These needs have resulted in intensive research by Electro-Voice physicists and engineers to the end that new principles and new techniques have evolved a superior series of VHF drivers which have overcome range and sensitivity limitations.

The improved T35B, and T35 Super-Sonax, very-high frequency drivers are designed to complement all Electro-Voice speaker systems, and systems of alternative manufacture, when smooth, efficient, extended response is desired past 3500 cps. These drivers have specialized integral horns of the diffraction type which afford wide dispersion. This dispersion characteristic is especially valuable in stereo or binaural reproduction, where even distribution of sound energy throughout the listening area is a requisite to preserve the proper aural horopter.

The Hoodwin Diffraction Horn

All Electro-Voice drivers employ diffraction horns as the recommended method of achieving the best dispersion. In stereo work especially, a 3 dB concentration of sound in one portion  of the room is sufficient to cause apparent displacement of the subject, with resultant distortion of the "solid" or stereo effect.. This changes the aural perspective so necessary to the preservation of the illusion of reality, and smooth dispersion insures duplication of the original sound source depth and width. The spatial relationship of the original sound source to the axis of the two ears is termed the aural horopter, and an even sound distribution, coupled with balancing the levels of both right and left speakers is insured through the diffraction principle.

Voice Coil Assembly

By using a diaphragm assembly of practically indestructible phenolic-impregnated linen, radial splitting, buzzing and modular breakup are eliminated. Because reproduction of the extreme high frequencies is mass-controlled, the self-supporting voice coil has no heavy coil form and is therefore practically weightless, providing extended high-frequency response.

Electro-Voice T350 VHF Driver

T350 Deluxe VHF Compression Driver

Designed to complement Electro-Voice deluxe high fidelity drivers, the T350 VHF driver combines smooth, extended high-frequency response with efficient performance. An integral diffraction horn couples the diaphragm to the air and assures the widest possible sound dispersion. This uniform distribution of sound energy is especially important in stereo reproduction to allow the largest possible listening area.

Exclusive Sonophase throat design is incorporated in the T350 VHF driver. Response is flat up to 4 or 5 kHz, after which destructive interference results from inability of the diaphragm to act as a piston. Increasingly higher frequencies cause the phase of sound produced at the diapragm periphery to shift with respect to sound produced by the diaphragm center-due to diaphragm deformation . In the Sonophase design, sound from the central portion of the diaphragm is delayed by the longer path length, restoring proper phase relationship and level as the frequency increases. The importance of the Sonophase throat design is paramount above 12 kHz, where sound must be taken from the center of the diaphragm and the periphery simultaneously; in this design this is accomplished without destructive interference or cancelation within the sound chamber. At lower frequencies where the diaphragm acts as a piston, and no phase shift is required in the path configuration, the longer central path length does not appreciably change the phase due to the longer wave lengths involved.

The single-wound self-supporting voice coil is epoxy-bonded to a phenolic impregnated diapragm. This extremely rugged assembly will withstand high power levels, and yet is light enough to follow precisely the complex VHF wave forms.

Electro-Voice 15TRX loudspeaker

Incorporating all the design advantages of the famous Electro-Voice Radax Coaxial principle, the 15TRX and 15TRXB integrated 3-ay loudspeakers include, also, the latest developments in the art. Of reproducing the highhest audible frequencies through the use of integral Super Sonax VHF drivers. Bass response is excellent, affording pleasing musical balance without the masking effects often experienced from extended high-frequency reproduction.

Both the 15TRX and 15TRXB loudspeakers are tailored to optimum listening requirements; latest developments incorporated insure uniform, smooth coverage of the entire listening area. The engineered features of these E-V integrated 3-way speakers include true concentric mounting of all reproducing elements; augmented balanced bass response in conjunction; carefully tailored mid-range characteristic to provide realism and a considerable degree of "presence" at usual sound levels.

Further benefits are afforded in the high-frequency section of the Electro-Voice integrated 3-way speakers by the incorporation of E-V developed diffraction horns to achieve the best dispersion. An adjustable "brilliance" control is incorporated to allow matching of response to room acoustic, compensating for high-frequency absorptive effects of heavy draperies and soft furnishings. A true 2-way electrical crossover network minimizes distortion, and a massive ceramic magnet assembly provides highest efficiency, excellent damping and extended range.

Bozak Celestovox B-1207 speakers

Bozak Celestovox Speaker System , model B-1207

One of great deterrents to reproducing music in the home so that it has the fullness of dimension which characterizes concert hall listening lies in the size of the typical home listening room.

In the vast space of the concert hall, sound revererates from wall and ceiling surfaces there is a finite interval between the time that the direct sound impinges on the ear and the time that the reflected waves reach the listener. In the home situation, reflected sound reaches the ear almost simultaneously with the direct sound, hence there is no feeling of spaciousness.

Bozak engineers have devised a system which so nearly, simulates concert hall conditions in the living room that a whole new dimension is added to home listening. It consists of the Bozak Model 900 Celeste Time Delay and the Model B-1207 Celestovox loudspeaker system especially designed to provide ambience by reflecting sound from flat wall and ceiling surfaces.

Driven by a separate 25-watt or greater stereo amplifier, a pair of Celestovox's can add the excitement of concert hall ambience to your own listening room. Strangely enough, the sound is so natural that you may be unaware of the enhancement unless you switch off the Celestovox speakers, then your ears will quickly detect the lack of ambience.

Since the Celestovox speaker system operates by reflecting off flat wall surfaces there is complete flexibility with regard to speaker location within a room. There is no need for corner placement, since front projection is not required, the Celestovox can be placed behind furniture. Exact location in a particular room can best be established by trial.

In the concert hall, high frequencies are naturally attenuated more rapidy than lows. Celestovox incorporates a high frequency roll-off control to permit adjustment to room acoustics and personal taste.
