Garrard DD-132 turntable

 The Garrard DD132

Direct drive, single play turntables with Fail-Safe Drive System, low-mass tracking and Delglide automation

The Garrard name in turntables is legendary. With the new direct drive, single play DD132, Garrard introduces two models that reflect the achievements of generations of turntable engineering. Both models are precise expressions of the critical elements that determine exquisite reproduction of music.
Critical Element – The Drive System
It’s called the Fail-Safe Drive System, and for good reason. From its motor, through its speed monitoring, it functions to eliminate the distortions caused by speed irregularities before they can reach the listener’s ear.
The motor is the heart of any direct drive turntable. The DD132 (and DD131) incorporate a DC servo-controlled motor which revolves at the same speed as the platter. But that’s only the first step.
The new Garrard motor an end to cogging
The new direct drive motor, designed and built by Garrard, is brushless coreless and slotless. Most important, it puts an end to the problem which plagues most direct drive motors cogging. Cogging lakes place because the space or “slots” between the magnetic poles of a motor exert a different force than the poles themselves. The result is erratic rotation and rumble. This new Garrard motor ends cogging. It exerts a constant magnetic force during the entire 360(O) rotation of the platter.

Time-Integral-Velocity monitoring
Monitoring of the motor is accomplished by a state-of-the-art speed detection system we call Time-Integral-Velocity Simply stated, a signal is generated which reveals actual rotational speed so that it can be read by correction circuitry.
“Hall effect” circuitry
Final assurance of rotational speed is accomplished by “Hall effect” circuitry which makes instant correction of any irregularity whether caused by stylus drag, cleaning devices or other factors which threaten to interfere with the speed you’ve chosen. Summation Garrard’s Fail-Safe Drive System provides a cogless motor, constant monitoring and instant correction.
The Tonearm
It is unfortunate and somewhat surprising that so many manufacturers still ignore the vital role of the tonearm in determining performance. Garrard engineering has paid special attention to the tonearm. Both the DD132 (and DD131) boast the same tonearm/headshell combination. Tonearm and headshell together weight just 12 grams. Thus you can derive the full potential of any cartridge including the new, low-mass, high compliance types that are finding increasing favor among audiophiles and music lovers. Julian Hirsch the noted reviewer; said that the Garrard tonerm is compatible with any cartridge presently manufactured , no matter how compliant it may be.
Silent Automation
The new Garrard direct drive motor and ultra-light tonearm in the DD132 (and DD131) are integrated with the exceptionally silent smooth and dependable Delglide system. The reviews tell the story. Stereo magazine “everything worked perfectly, and with impressive silence and smoothness”. Radio Electronics “ one the smoothest changing cycles we have ever seen”. Audio magazine  “ very quiet in operation, should give years of trouble-free service.”

Summation
The DD132 (and DD131) direct drive turntables include Garrard’s Fail-Safe Drive System, an ultra-light tonearm with magnesium headshell and an astonishingly silent automatic system. In addition, both units incorporate variable speed control and a stroboscope illuminated by an LED for easy reading even in a brightly lit room.
Design and styling
The controls of both of these turntables are expressions of Garrard’s concern with “human engineering” they are grouped in sensible operating sequence and each control is clearly marked and generously sized for the adult hand.  Their circular(rather than push-button or slide) action allows use of the controls while a record is playing without jarring the tonearm. Either of these turntables can be placed in any room and beautifully integrate with its décor.
The difference
The tonearm of the DD132 will automatically index, lift and the end of play and come back to its rest before shutting off. The DD132 also features repeat play capability.

Garrard DD-130 turntable

Garrard DD130

The DD130 is designed for music lovers whose major concern is the fidelity with the music on their records is reproduced. It is a direct-drive, single play, manual turntable with a low mass, professional tonearm. The quality of its elements ensures an exceptionally high level or performance.

The tonearm
Garrard engineers have given special attention to the DD130 tonearm. The critical importance of this element is frequently overlooked by many manufacturers of direct drive turntables
It must be remembered that the tiny stylus, as it traces the groove, must bear the full weight of the tonearm. Clearly a tonearm must be light and ensure that the finest and lightest tracking cartridges can be used with optimum results. The tonearm of the DD130 is tubular and made of an aluminum alloy formulated for lightness and rigidity. The head shell is made of ultra light magnesium. The tonearm and headshell together weight a mere 12 grams. To underscore the assurance of quality reproduction, the tonearm “rides” on jewel bearings. The DD130 will readily track records that are badly warped. Something tonearms of higher mass simply cannot do.

The direct drive motor
The performance of a direct drive turntable rests heavily upon the motor, since the platter is directly attached to the motor shaft. The DD130 boasts a brushless DC motor, operating at low speed which sharply reduces mechanical vibration. In the DD130, the standard 110 volt, 60 cycle AC is converted to 16 volt DC. Thus the motor is immune to the normal fluctuations in the voltage or frequency of house hold current.

Servo electronic Control
The design of the DD130 motor, results in smoother rotation than is possible with more conventional motors. To ensure that speed is maintained precisely an automatic speed controlled is incorporated. Rotor speed is converted into voltage. The faster the speed, the higher the voltage. This voltage is monitored by a servo circuit which senses the most minute variation from correct voltage. It then automatically alters the amount of current, correcting variations instantaneously.

Variable speed control
Are your ears sensitive enough to detect an off-pitch recording? By means of a variable pitch control, you can alter the speed of the platter to correct the faulty recording. An easy-to-read, LED-illuminated stroboscope provides visual confirmation when you want to go back to normal accurate speed.

More features
The four-pound, die-cast aluminum platter assures clean-level rotation. A full 12 inches in diameter, it is dynamically balanced. The DD130 features a calibrated (for elliptical and CD4 styli) anti-skate control. This control enables the listener to neutralize the force which tends to press the stylus against the inner wall of the groove while a record is spinning. The precise anti-skate control of the DD130 will keep the stylus centered in the groove.
The controls of the DD130 are clearly marked strategically positioned and easily operated. It is mounted on a glass-filled, polyester, “Slim-Line” base. The base stands on shock-absorbent feet that insulate the DD130 from external vibration. A sleek, moulded dust cover is attached to the base via special friction-fit hinges.
Finally, the appearance of the DD130 complements its performance. Its colors were chosen to blend gracefully with any décor. Performance, appearance, price and reliability. The DD130 is a manual turntable for the listener who is more than casual about music.

Luxman PX-101 turntable

 Luxman PX-101
Fully Automatic Tangential Tracking Turntable
The PX-101 plays back records exactly as they were cut; in a straight line. Essentially providing zero-deviation from the cutting process, as well as zero tracking error and zero tracking distortion during playback.
The advantages of tangential tracking are immediately evident. The music sounds “cleaner”, with better separation between channels, better separation of instruments within the orchestra, and a far more vivid recreation of the “soundstage”.
With the PX-101, wow and flutter is inaudible. Rumble, non-existent. Speed of 33-1/3 and 45 RPM, with a ±3% deviation available at will. Both the tonearm and headshell are constructed of improved aluminum alloy for resonance-control and damping. Fully automatic, direct-drive, it requires but a touch to operate. A built-in circuit of the PX-101 will automatically place your accompanying Luxman KX-101 or KX-102 cassette deck in the pause mode when the record you’re recording has reached the end of play. And the PX-101 is also responsive to the Infrared Wireles Remote Control system of the new Luxman RX-103 Receiver.

Features:
Tangential Tracking System – The straight tone arm of the PX-101 tracks in a straight line from the outer grooves to the inner grooves of a disc, exactly as the disc was cut. This virtually eliminates tracking errors and inside force problems; giving better stereo separation, and a more vivid recreation of the recording “soundstage”. The high performance tonearm is driven by a separate tonearm control motor, which is superior in its construction of computerized control circuits and improved stainless steel wire.
Optical Sensing Fully Automatic Function – Fully automatic, smooth, accurate response is ensured thanks to the exclusive integrated Circuit TIP and Optical Sensing Circuit. (Detection of the auto return point occurs without side-force.) Press the Start/Cut button after selecting the speed. Automatic lead in and lead out of the tonearm is activated by Feather-Touch Control. Interruption of operation during play is made easy by pressing the Start/Cut button. The tonearm automatically returns to the armrest and shuts off the motor. In the “Repeat” position, playback of the same record is endlessly repeated.
Auto Disc Pause – When activated, a built-in circuit of the PX-101 automatically places your accompanying KX-101 or KX-102 cassette deck  in the pause mode from the record mode, when the record being taped reaches the end of play. Allows you to leave the system unattended while taping.
Remote Control Capability – In combination with the RX-103 Receiver, the PX-101 Turntable may be controlled through the RX-103’s infrared wireless Remote Control. The Remote Control activates the turnable’s play, cut, cue up, and cue down functions.
Electrical Cueing and Arm Speed Switches – A touch of the Cueing Switch controls the tonearm, up and down. The Arm Speed Switch allows you to move the tonearm into position over the exact cur desired on the disc. A slight touch and the arm moves slowly; a further touch and the arm moves faster, either toward the inside or outside of the disc.
External Control Board – The controls are located outside of the dust cover, to protect discs while in play.
Detachable Head Shell – Cartridges are easy to install. The PX-101 accepts a variety of cartridges and other standard universal head shells.
Mirror Reflex Stroboscope – The unique Stroboscope system of mirror-reflection makes adjustments on accurate feed rotation easy.
Pitch Control – The speed can be adjusted by tuning pitch control up to ±3%

Aiwa AP-2300 turntable

Semi- Automatic Direct Drive turntable

Features:

High-efficiency D-D Linear Torque Motor - wow and flutter below 0,035% (WRMS)

Super-solid resin cabinet with revolutionary "Space Saving" design

Fully-adjustable insulator feet

High-sensitivity J-shaped tonearm

Viscous-damped cueing

Full Front Operation

Variable pitch control ±3%

The pitch control knob provided lets you adjust the player's rotation precisely to the standard 33-⅓ or 45 rpm speeds, but there's another big advantage; pitch can be changed by as much as plus or minus 3 percent. Use this control when accompanying the record on your guitar or other instrument, or to vary musical pitch according to listening preference.

Easy-to-read stroboscope design

To add to the AP-2300's clean, simple appearance, the stroboscopic markings along the platter have been reduced from the usual 4 rows to 2. when employing the pitch control to adjust rotation speed, the knob should be moved until the upper or lower row of markings appears to be standing still. This indicates precise setting to the 33-⅓ and 45 rpm rotation speed , respectively.

Exclusive "Rec-Sync" disc-to-cassette automatic recording mechanism

The Ap-2300 was designed for use with other Aiwa component, but goes a step beyond mere matching for appearance sake; by connecting the cord provided with the unit from the special "rec-sync" jack at the rear panel of the AP-2300 to most Aiwa cassette deck models, player-to-cassette recording can be commenced automatically in tandem with the lowering of the played tonearm of the disc. Synchronized recording operation - it's another reason why Aiwa -built components work superbly together as well as separately.

Dual 728Q turntable

Quartz PLL direct drive, fully automatic operation, and Dual's s exclusive Ultra Low Mass tonearm system

Dual exclusive features

ULM tonearm and cartridge system: less than 8 grams total effective mass

New XM300 alloy increases rigidity, reduces resonance

Hydrodynamic suspension system for tonearm, motor and platter

Turntable acoustic isolators minimize acoustic feedback and external shock

Tunable anti-resonance filter with viscous damping

HDC (High Damping Compound) housing provides high internal damping and suppresses external interference

Unique dust-cover hinges allow placement close to rear wall

The moment the ULM tonearms touches down on your record, you will appreciate what Dual engineers have accomplished. You will hear a purity of tone that has never before emerged from the grooves. Even if the record is warped.

The Ultra Low Mass. tonearm

The Dual straight-line tubular tonearm is suspended in a four-point gyroscopic gimbal which centers and balances the tonearm mass where it pivots. The vernier-adjustable counterbalance establishes zero balance with micrometer-like precision. A tempered flat-wound spring applies tracking force at the pivot - without increasing effective mass. The tonearm remains in perfect dynamic balance throughout play, even if the turntable is not level.

The ULM tonearm can accommodate cartridges weighing as little as two grams. ULM cartridges made to Dual specifications weight only 3,5 grams, including mounting bracket and hardware.

ULM is Dual's exclusive Ultra Low Mass tonearm and cartridge system with total effe3ctive mass less than 8 grams. That's less than half the mass of conventional tonearm and cartridge combinations.

This major breakthrough by Dual has been acclaimed throughout the audio industry, especially by the independent test labs.

These labs have begun to use warped records as 'real-life' test instruments

One lab, after making the usual measurements, also listened to a record played by the sme ULM tonearm and cartridge system. There is no way measurements, or mere words, can describe the acoustic presence, highs re crystalline, with a purity we haven't heard before. The bass is so clean that one can hear new sounds from records, such as the harmonic vibration of unplayed strings on the double bass, overall definition and transient response were outstanding.

Hydrodynamic suspension system

Radically new design floats the tonearm , motor and platter as one unit on four cylinders, each filled with special viscous fluid. This system absorbs virtually all spurious energy originating in sound waves as well as vibrations caused by footfalls or other movements in the room.

Two suspension systems

There are two separate and independent suspension systems, each highly effective in isolating the tonearm from acoustic feedback and other music-muddying interferences. The Hydrodynamics system floats the tonearm, motor and platter as one unit on four accordion-like shock absorbers, each filled with a special viscous fluid.

The second suspension system incorporates four tunable acoustic isolators where other turntables simply have feet. Each of these isolators is adjustable to provide maximum protection from either acoustic feedback or external shock. No more tip-toeing across the room to keep the tonearm from jumping. And no more cutting the bass to eliminate feedback.

Tunable anti-resonance filter

Like all other systems with mass and compliance, tonearms and cartridges tend to vibrate and cause undesirable resonances. These resonances cannot be entirely eliminated, but unless minimized they cause power-draining subsonic woofer-cone movements. You hear the results as muddy bass. Dual engineers have solved this problem with the unique tunable anti-resonance filter.

Housed in the counter-balance, the anti-resonance filter can be precisely tuned to match the tonearm to the mass and compliance of all available cartridges. The tonearm is made of the special new XM300 aluminum/magnesium alloy which increases rigidity and reduces resonance.

Ultra Low Mass

Hydrodynamic suspension, tunable acoustic isolators, tunable anti-resonance filter - all important contributions leading to perfection in record playback. And all Dual exclusives. Equally important, the materials, the quality control exemplify all that has made Dual precision and reliability so highly regarded throughout the world.

Luxman PD-272 turntable

Direct-Drive Turntable

A new direct-drive turntable from Luxman at a modest price. A brushless and slotless DC servo motor and a straight, low-mass tonearm offer superb Wow and Flutter no more than 0,03% and excellent Signal-to-Noise Ratio at 60 dB

Brushless and Slotless DC Servo Motor

Excellent woa and flutter characteristic together with stable rotation are assured by adopting a Brushless and Slotless DC Servo Motor in which slots are completely removed to eliminate unevenness of rotation caused by electro-magnetics, and further a turntable platter of high inertia makes it possible to distribute the large mass of platter weight around the outer contour.

Straight0Type Tonearm

A straight type tonearm is adopted to eliminate resonance caused by lack of intensity which tends to be found on the tonearm exclusively designed for high compliance type cartridge, and at the same time the root of the tonearm is of double-pipe structure to strengthen anti-resonance affect.

Further, the cartridge shell is integrated to the tonearm, thus resonance is suppressed down to the minimum. Also such problem as poor contact of cartridge terminals is removed.

Acrylic Dust Cover

For the dust cover, an acrylic resin is adopted which provides a very smooth surface and excellent characteristic against acoustic, feedback. The entire cover is detachable with semi-free-stop hinges.

Ultra Thin Type OI Core Transformer

An ultra thin type OI core transformer of the least-leakage flux, it adopted which is smoothly housed in the smart chassis. This contributes to the realization of stable rotation and excellent signal-to-noise ratio.

Platter Mat

The platter mat is so designed as to realize firm retention of the disc. To minimize unnecessary space between disc and platter mat, the plane is procured between the two by making the contour of platter mat suitable to that of disc.

Of course the platter mat not only damps discs but the platter itself thanks to high density rubber material, and further it is exactly inlaid to the turntable platter. The surface with special treatment ensures superb contact to discs.

Functions

A unique switch controls both power turn-on and turn-off and speed selection through the use of a single switch. A stroboscope of mirror reflex type, oil damped cueing system, anti-skating device etc, are all ideally arranged based upon human engineering considerations.

The motor is direct drive, and has no noisy mechanical linkages and resonance-prone parts. It's also a quartz-locked motor, assuring you of accurate speed and stability.

The tonearm represents a new generation of low-mass, low-friction Luxman designs. It is statically balanced so you can adjust tracking force with exceptional accuracy. The headshell is low in mass, rigid, and removeable. And because the PX-99 is semi-automatic, the tone arm lifts off the record at the end of play, and allows the PX-99 to shut itself off.

A unique feature of the PX-99, when used with Luxman KX-Series cassette deck, the Auto Pause Output puts the cassette deck in the pause mode when the record has reached the end of play.

The PX-99 pays attention to everything that's critical in turntable design. Rumble is inaudible. Wow and Flutter can hardly even be measured. Tracking ability is flawless.

Features:

Optical Sensing Arm Lift System - when record playback is finished, the tonearm automatically lifts and shuts off the motor because the optical circuit senses the lift-off point, it makes no mechanical contact with the tonearm at all while playing records, so operation is smooth and accurate

Auto Lift Control Switch - the Auto Lift Control is useful for playback of records with a music groove engraved very close to the label. The tonearm is designed so it will not lift off, even at the innermost part of the disc.

New Static Balanced Straight-Light Tonearm - the PX-99's long straight arm has better trackability than the regular short S-shaped arm used on most turntables. It also has very low mass and low resonance. The Low Mass Arm realizes accurate sound reproduction even from high dynamic range, digitally recorded records.

Auto Disc Pause - when activated  a built-in circuit of the PX-99 automatically places your accompanying KX-100, KX-101 or KX-102 cassette deck in the pause mode from the record mode, when the record being taped reaches the end of play. Allows you to leave the system unattended while taping.

Cybernet CP-300Q turntable

Quartz Control Direct Drive Semi-Automatic Turntable

You can hear the difference in a Cybernet component. That's because Cybernet is a world leader and innovator in the field of electronics and designs all of its audio products to very exacting specifications. And that's why, whichever Cybernet component you purchase, you can be assured of excellent performance, incredibly accurate sound, high reliability and long life.

Quartz Control, Direct-Drive System

The CP-300Q combines one of the finest systems of rotational accuracy - quartz control direct-drive - with the exceptional convenience of front panel operation

The system starts with a full-cycle FG (Frequency Generator) servo motor. It incorporates full IC design for outstanding performance and reliability. With quartz control, you're assured of incredible rotational accuracy it any possible trace of speed drift is detected, corrective torque is immediately applied. The specifications verify the turntable's exceptional performance. Wow and Flutter is very low 0,05% WRMS, Signal-to-Noise Ratio is an inaudible -68 dB DIN-B. the result is sound quality true to the original source. And with front panel control, everything is right where you want it.

Semi-Automatic Turntable Control

To start operation of the CP-300Q, place the tonearm on the record surface. From there on, everything is totally automatic. When the end of a record is reached, the tonearm lifts up, returns to the rest position, and the turntable motor is shut-off. You won't have to worry about the stylus getting caught in the lead-out grooves of the record, which can happen with manual-type turntables. The result is less wear on your stylus, records and turntable.

Front Panel Controls for Optimum Convenience

The important operating controls of the CP-300Q are right on the turntable's front panel, making operation extremely easy and convenient. A speed selector provides a choice of two speeds; 33-⅓ and 45 rpm. A variable pitch control and illuminated stroboscope allow speed variations by up to ±4 %. Raising the pitch control knob allows the Quartz system to be removed. A "reject" button provides automatic return of the tonearm anytime during record play. And all these controls can be operated even when the dust cover is closed giving added protection to your records.

Low Mass, Tubular Aluminum Tonearm

The tonearm is of straight, tubular aluminum construction for excellent damping of outside vibrations. Its low-mass design, and finely machined, low-friction bearings, provide excellent tracking ability and exceptional sound quality.

High Feedback Resistance

The CP-300Q features base construction incorporating individual rubber feet to isolate any source of mechanical or acoustical feedback. By effectively resisting outside vibrations, the result is clean, accurate sound reproduction.

Smooth Tonearm Set-Down with Viscous-Damped Cueing

The cueing system is viscous oil-damped, allowing smooth, gradual descent of the tonearm. Operated with the manual cueing lever located next to the tonearm, oil-damping provides greater precision, reduced needle bounce and less chance of record damage.

Pitch Control with Illuminated Stroboscope

The CP-300Q provides (by pulling up the pitch control knob) a variable pitch control for both 33-⅓ and 45 rpm speeds. In combination with the easy -to-read illuminated stroboscope you can vary the speed up to ±4%. This lets you speed up or slow down a record, allowing alignments of pitch for any accompanying instrument.
