What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Braun L700A ADS loudspeakers

The Speaker as a System

The ingredients of a speaker function as a system only if great care is taken in the matching of the individual components and dimensioning of the cabinet to match the crucial driver (woofer) parameters. With German engineering and ingenuity the L700A (and L500A) accomplish in modest sized enclosures what other manufacturers often do less well in "battleship cabinets". You will be amazed by the clean, accurate bass performance of these speakers which employ very modest sized drivers (7" diameter for the L700A; 8-1/2" diameter for L500A). It is not  true that low frequency bass means large woofers, our 7" woofers work very well at 25 Hz. But it is true that in two-way speakers, small sized woofers yield superior dispersion in the midrange. Also the musically important transient response of a small woofer excels. That's why we choose small woofers for the benefit of open, transparent reproduction without compromising bass performance.

The L700A  (and L500A)  are designed to reproduce the input signal as faithfully as possible. Both offer very smooth full-range frequency response from the lowest organ tone to well beyond audibility, superb dispersion and unsurpassed transient response.

The Woofer

The L700A is two-way acoustic suspension speakers. Truly good-two-way systems are difficult to design since woofer and tweeter have to cover a rather wide range of frequencies. For instance, the Braun woofer does cover a large portion of the midrange frequencies, up to 1500 Hz. The human ear is extremely sensitive to coloration and distortion at these frequencies, therefore our engineers developed a unique woofer cone material, which is stiff so it moves like a piston at bass frequencies, yet is soft and self-damping at high frequencies to prevent cone break -up . In addition, this material had to be light so that musical transients would be quickly and cleanly handled.

Our woofer cone has a soft suspension resulting in a low resonant frequency and making it move with high efficiency and accuracy.

We believe it should not require a super-power amplifier to drive our speakers to high levels properly, so we built the efficiency into our drivers. We gave them unusually strong magnetic fields (9500 Gauss). In this way even a fairly low power receiver driving Braun speakers will give you concert hall realism. Efficiency is a particularly important consideration in four-channel installations, since quadrophonic receivers often offer less reserve power per channel than stereo receivers. Of course the Braun works well with high power amplifiers also.

The Tweeter

All Braun loudspeakers from the smallest to the mighty three-channel LV 1020 share one jewel, the unequalled 1" diameter soft-dome tweeter. This elegantly simple-looking device gives Braun speakers their unprecedented open clarity, superwide dispersion and silky smoothness in frequency response. No other tweeter we know of moves so accurately and with so little distortion as our 1" soft-dome. This is accomplished by the strong magnetic field of 15,000 Gauss driving a dome that weighs a mere 0,2 grams, which is a great deal lighter  than the usual tracking force required for a good turntable cartridge.

The distorting break-up so common with paper cone and dome tweeters is entirely prevented by suspending our tissue dome by its own sealed acoustic chamber, and by damping out resonances with a unique (sticky) damping fluid.

This design gives our tweeter the ability to handle transient and musical details so faithfully that it can be called ear opening. In spite of its lightweight the Braun dome can tolerate substantial amounts of power. The tiny voice coil stays cool by radiating all the heat through the very narrow coil gap of one one-thousandth of an inch right into the heavy one pound magnet.

The Crossover

No matter how good the drivers may be, only with a crossover of equal performance will a speaker perform at its best. Braun is so convinced of this that we use heavy eighteen ounce copper  coils for perfect linearity and for minimum losses, as well as expensive metal film capacitors for long-term stability, low losses and for never changing frequency response of the speaker system.

Braun - Invisibile Sound

Transparent has been the word used by experts to describe the best in clear, distortion free sound. But now there is something better

Braun introduces a new dimension in sound. And a new word to describe it. The invisible sound of Braun loudspeakers is a giant step beyond transparency. Deep rich lows. Clean crisp highs. Powerful, perfectly natural sound - free of distortion and distraction. Recorded music now has an authentic presence you've never experienced before.

And it's no surprise. Braun loudspeakers are perhaps the most highly regarded speakers in Europe. There, they are the standard by which all others are judged. Now these incomparable performers are available in the United States, but not at "import" prices. Braun loudspeakers are currently being assembled in Cambridge Massachusetts from imported German driver components. This has dramatically cut cost, but not performance. With Braun you have superb German engineering plus the highest quality speaker cabinets made in the Unitee States with the same craftsmanship as those from the "old country".

If the quality of Braun's had to be traced to a single source it would have to be the European precision engineering applied to the evolved concept of the acoustic suspension speaker. Not many companies design and produce their own drivers and crossovers

The L-500A is two-way acoustic suspension speakers. Truly good tw-way systems are difficult to design since woofer and tweeter have to cover a rather wide range of frequencies.

Technics SB-G500 loudspeakers

For more realistic sound reproduction today's stereo integrated amplifiers and stereo receivers are going for bigger and bigger power and must be complemented by speaker systems with high power handling capacity. The speaker system must also be designed to handle the problem that occurs when even relatively low power amps are used with their tone controls all the way up. Even if volume is less than maximum, a low power amp operated in this way can damage a speaker unit. To meet these needs Technics developed the SB-G500 with its tremendous 300 watt power handling capacity.

The SB-G500 uses six units symmetrically arranged on the fight and left for an even dispersion pattern in both directions and for excellent sound localization. Without the grille the effect is quite mechanical showing a nose of diffuser but with the grille on this speaker system takes on an elegant look that will match the decor of any room.

Gigantic 41 cm Woofer for Rich Bass

Rich bass is, of course, needed for contemporary as well as classical music. If you like disco sound, the bass from the gigantic 41 cm woofer will really impress you. If you prefer classical music, you'll be surprised at the rich lows from the bass instruments in the orchestra. The heat resistant high polymer film bobbin used in this woofer is one reason for the high power handling capacity. The bass reflex enclosure also contributes to outstanding bass.

Other High performance Speaker Units

Two 12 cm cone-type midrange units take care of the range from 1,500 Hz to 4,000 Hz. They also use a high polymer film bobbin with high heat resistance for excellent high power handling capacity.

10 cm Tweeter with Diffuser

The all-important range from 4,000 Hz to 10,000 Hz uses a tweeter with an aluminum bobbin for improved power handling capacity. A diffuser assures wide dispersion of sound to all parts of the room

Two Dome-Type Super Tweeters

Super high sound above 10,000 Hz is the work of two 14 mm dome-type super tweeters with thin metallized polyester film diaphragm that feature superior sound dispersion.

Thermal Relay Protection and Level Control

The system has a resettable thermal relay protection against overload. This protective device does not interfere with the sound under normal conditions but should there be heat build-up for some reason, it is easily and quickly reset by pushing a button. A red LED indicator lights up to indicate that the thermal relay protection has cut off the input to the tweeter. There is also a level control for the tweeter and super tweeters to tailor high frequencies to individual tastes and room conditions.

Technics SA-626 receiver

Technics quartz-synthesized receivers

No tuning system on earth is more precise than quartz.

Tune in an FM station with a Technics SA-626 quartz-synthesized receiver and you can be absolutely sure that it will be perfectly in tune. And that station will stay in tune because the chance of encountering FM drift is 0,00% thanks to the crystalline accuracy of technics quartz-synthesized tuning.

Technics synthesized quartz also eliminates the hassle of tuning. Just push a button and you can preset and instantly retrieve seven AM and seven FM stations. And with Auto-scan, you can sample FM stations automatically.

The amplifier in the SA-626 will give you clean, crisp and dynamic sound because of Technics synchro-bias circuitry which completely eliminates switching distortion. By sending minute amounts of current to the amplifier transistors, synchro-bias never allows them to switch on or off. So there's absolutely no switching distortion.

Listen to the SA-626 and hear the sonic purity of synchro-bias circuitry and the crystaline tuning precision of Technics synthesized quartz.

Technics SA-818 receiver

Technics new Class A receivers

Give you so much because they give you so little. 0,00% switching distortion. 0,00% FM drift

Technics SA-818, uncommon receiver, because he has it too, synchro-bias circuitry and quartz-synthesized tuning. Together they give you that special something you've come to expect from Technics : sonic excellence.

Synchro-bias. What it does may seem complicated, but it sounds simply beautiful. With conventional amplifier designs, the output transistors constantly switch omn and off as the input waveform goes from positive to negative. Technics synchro-bias eliminates switching distortion because it constantly sends minute amounts of current to the transistor not in use. And since the transistors don't switch on or off, distortion is eliminated.so is FM drift because both receivers include our quartz-synthesized tuning system. With its quartz-crystal oscillator both the frequencies broadcast and those received are quartz-synthesized so tuner drift is completely eliminated. So is the hassle of tuning because SA-818 can be preset to receive eight AM and eight FM stations.

You'll also like Technics acoustic control because its high and low range boost and filter switches can attenuate or boost two different frequency ranges.

Technics New Class A receivers. They give you more what you want and less of what you don't.

Acculing Rotating Head Systems for Quick Reverse

Precision rotating hard-permalloy record/playback head systems for both transports assure precise azimuth accuracy and excellent durability in the W-6000R, speedy auto-reverse operation is made possible through the use of a photodetector equipped with quick reverse mechanisms. Ituses a beam of infrared light to detect the beginning of the leader and switches the direction of tape travel in a flash, eliminating annoying interruptions between tape sides.

Cassette Stabilizer

Vibrations in the cassette shell are a common source of modulation noise. The W-6000R employs a special stabilizer system to prevent these vibrations at their source. It clamps the cassette firmly in place, increasing the effective mass of the cassette shell for total vibration damping. A special design further prevents the ratting that sometimes detracts from the effectiveness of conventional cassette support systems.

Automatic Fade in Out

You can fade a song in from the intro and slowly out at the end for a professional sounding effect. And you can achieve this with the touch of a single button, because a motor-driven level control automatically adjusts the recording level. Fede in begins with record start, and after Fade Out the deck enters the Pause mode, so you;ll have smooth transitions between songs. By using this function along with mic mixing you can make great sounding DJ tapes.

Pitch Control for Fine Sound Tuning

Sometimes when playing a tape recorded on a different deck, the pitch can be slightly off. Since this naturally affects sound quality, the W-6000R's deck i offers a pitch control that is adjustable by ±6%. This delicate control ensures that you can enjoy all tapes as they should be heard.

Double Auto Reverse Cassette Deck

The W-800R is composed of two fully functional auto-reverse decks in a single chassis. This format offers a number of advantages, the first of which is tape dubbing - set one transport to play and the other to record and copy tapes at normal or high speed. You can also use both transports for recording, either at the same time or one followed by the other for taping long musical works. And for extended playback time, both decks feature auto-reverse as well as repeat of one side, two sides or both sides of both cassettes. Since each transport has its own IC logic control system, tape transport functions and simultaneous starting are smooth and precise.

Dolby HX Pro Headroom Extension

Working in tandem with Dolby B or C noise reduction, HX Pro provides better performance than either system could on its own. It lowers the bias level at high-frequency peaks, preventing "self-biasing" which would otherwise occur, for a widend recordable dynamic range. Dolby HX Pro operates only during recording, so you can play tapes recorded with it on any standard deck, even one not equipped with HX Pro.
