What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Mirage MRM-1 loudspeakers

MRM-1 The Monitor

Through long term R&D of a series of „cost-object” loudspeakers, a member of Mirage innovations have revolutionized enclosure resonance control, loudspeaker driver response, dispersion and freedom from distortion. The MRM-1 delivers these innovations in a spectacularly beautiful, incredibly compact enclosure.

In the MRM-1 the drivers have been chosen for their unique characteristics and powerful capabilities. These optimally designed components could never reach their performance goals in a conventional cabinet. The MRM-1’s enclosure is constructed with a series of alternating proprietary mediums laminated together, culminating in a baffle finished with a nine inch slab totally inert, ultra-dense Corian. The complex contours of the polished baffle are artfully shaped to enhance the driver’s unique dispersion characteristics.

Audition a thousand others and you’ll return to MRM-1 again and again. In achieving your dream of physical beauty, deep bass extension, holistic imaging and unparalleled detail,, the technology is only the means. The MRM-1 vividly recreates the original musical event, with every song, every performance … every time.

Allison 130 loudspeakers

The Allison 130

to hear the Allison 130 is to hear one of the finest speakers available today – a system without compromise at a truly affordable price.

Largest of the series, the Allison 130 has the same woofer and the same profoundly extended bass response as the Allison Nine – the performance leader in our Designer Series. Listening to the 130, it is difficult to believe that a loudspeaker could possibly be better; few are, and they all cost far more.

Allison technology provides uncompromised performance and quality in speakers which can reproduce every musical nuance of modern digital and analog recordings. Our manufacturing process permits economy of price. The result is unique value and listening pleasure.

Allison 120 loudspeakers

The Allison convex-diaphragm tweeter is functionally equivalent to a pulsating hemisphere, so dispersion at the highest frequenties is more uniform than that of any other tweeter. This design produces flat power output without on-axis beaming, precise stereo imaging over a large listening area, and an accurate simulation of the original space around the image. Allison technology reproduces sound that musicians and experienced concert-goers immediately recognize as being very close to the original.

The Allison 120 has the same robust, solid bass that Stereo Review called „astonishing” in the Allison models Four, Five and Seven. Middle and high frequencies have the transparency and openness that only the Allison tweeter can provide. We consider this system to be one of the best buys of all speakers now available.

Allison 110 loudspeakers

Allison Series 100 loudspeakers are engineered for economy, without sacrifice of the quality on which we have built our reputation. These features from our more expensive lines have been retained in the Series 100.

room-matched design for uniform power output in the listening environment. Our research has proved that the listening room is part of the system and has shown us how to work with it most effectively.

Convex-diaphragm tweeter and long-excursion woofer – the same drivers, exactly, as are used in our other loudspeakers.

Drivers coupled to quarter-section crossover networks made with air-core chokes and premium quality capacitors

The Allison 110 while compact, is not a „mini” system. It has wide frequency range and balance that is very satisfying. The Allison 110, smallest of the new series, has low-frequency performance objectively identical with that of the Allison Six, a loudspeaker that has been critically acclaimed throughout the world. While compact, the 110 system – least of all in its sound, which has a range and power normally associated with much larger systems. individual assembly and quality assurance testing of every driver, crossover, and total system at our factory in Massachusetts.

JVC KD-85 cassette deck

Switchable 25-LED Spectro Peak Indicator

Superb Transient TTL IC Amp Design

Memory Stop

Gear/Oil-Damped Cassette Lid

The JVC KD-85 stereo cassette deck always lets you make a perfect recording.. Damage to tapes and mechanism is also avoided. A beautiful machine to behold, this deck is a JVC design coup. Among the extras is the Spectro Peak Indicator. Superb specifications include a 30 to 17,000 Hz Frequency Response with CrO₂ tape, a better than 57 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio and -0,04% wow/flutter .

Tape-transport has never been more accurate than Full Logic control and Two-Motor drive.

The KD-85 uses the best mechanism ever conceived for a cassette deck - the two motor ID mechanism. In this configuration, two motors ensure stable tape transport. One is a frequency generator (FG) servomotor for capstan drive. The other is DC for reel drive. Because each drive mechanism operates independently of the other, and because operation is thus simplified, the very, very low/flutter of the KD-85 is assured at all times. Full logic control of the deck is the job of three dependable TLL ICs - one custom-made MSI (Medium-Scale IC) and two TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) Ics. They permit direct change of modes at a light touch of the fingertip - the buttons require only a 6 mm push.

Watch the frequency spectra on this Spectro Peak Indicator

This handy rec/playback convenience allows you to visually and constantly check the level of recording in five low-to-high frequency ranges. You can thus avoid saturation (less distortion) and keep noise out (better Signal-to-Noise Ratio).

JVC has perfected several systems for Better Tape Handling

JVC's exclusive Dual-Ball Cassette Hold System clamps cassettes in tight for better, smoother performance. Compartment is topped with Gear/Oil-Damped Cassette Lid - press Eject button and balls release tape. Designed for advanced audiophiles, the JVC KD-85 packs in all these features at a practical and accessible price to please all.

Nakamichi RX-505 cassette deck

Unidirectional Auto Reverse Cassette Deck

Since unveiling the world's first fully Discrete Three-Head cassette deck with the Model 1000, Nakamichi has long dreamt of making the Discrete Three head design possible in a record/playback auto reverse deck. With the RX-505, we've made the dream a reality. It combines the superior quality of a one-way, Discrete Three-Head, Closed-Loop Dual-Capstan Deck, with the outstanding convenience of auto reverse operation.

Conventional auto reverse decks are designed to reverse the direction of tape travel at the end of a cassette side. Because of this, they all suffer from the resulting problem of azimuth error between the two sides of a tape, causing an audible deterioration in sound quality. And no matter how precise a tape transport is made, azimuth error arising from a reversal in tape travel direction can't be completely eliminated by conventional designs because of irregularities in the construction and "performance" of standard cassette shells. It look the engineering genius and incredible precision of the NAAC system in the Nakamichi Dragon to fully eliminate the problem, with continuous automatic playback head azimuth alignment of both sides of the tape.

The Unidirectional Auto Reverse mechanism solves the same problem with a completely new concept in auto reverse mechanism design. Instead of reversing tape travel direction, this unique mechanism automatically reverses the cassette instead, so absolutely identical tape travel conditions are maintained for both sides A and B of a tape.

Not only is azimuth error between sides of a tape fully eliminated, the inherent advantages of tape travel accuracy and reliability in a one-way transport mechanism can be brought to the highest possible level.

Fully Discrete Tree-Head design guarantees exceptionally wide, flat frequency response to 20 kHz. Tape travel is controlled with extreme precision by only the capstans themselves in a highly accurate Closed-Loop Dual-Capstan silent mechanism, and the individual capstans are machined to slightly different diameters so that unwanted flutter components are not allowed to arise. The recording and playback amps are full DC configuration with bipolar power supply, for extremely low total harmonic distortion of less than 0,005%, a figure rivalling that of the finest home audio preamplifiers.

The RX-505 also offers a full complement of features and functions that add more versatility and convenience to the auto reverse format. Automatic fade-out and fade-in prior to and after the reverse operation provide a smooth transition between sides of a tape. Auto Rec Standby, Auto Rec Pause, program Seek, a Master Fader control, and more provide the operating control and convenience cassette enthusiasts will find most useful - especially with an auto revers deck.

With the RX-505 Nakamichi has again created an all new standard in cassette deck performance.
