What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

From Onkyo Academy: The Benefits of a Preamplifier

A preamplifier receives the signal input from your device (music source), and applies tone controls to that signal. You have more control over your audio playback in terms of bass, treble, volume, and more. When Fidelity IQ (Auto Loudness function) is turned on, the system automatically provides optimal audio playback according to any volume in conjunction with the master volume (This function operates independently of Tone Control and can be used in conjunction with Tone Control / Parameters are generated for the viewing environment using the setup microphone during initial setup). This Fidelity IQ goes beyond correcting loudness characteristics. Onkyo’s sound quality engineers adjust the frequency response to provide the most emotional sound possible, regardless of the music genre. Select your source, tweak settings to your liking – which may vary depending on the speakers you listen through, the type of audio being played, the genre of music, etc. – and customize the experience accordingly.

Dirac Live For The  Discerning Listener

Just as your favorite music resonates on an emotional level, premium design is felt instinctively. Intuitively. The Onkyo Icon Series is meticulously designed for simplicity and balance, blending an elegant form factor with classic hi-fi details. Carefully selected materials and tactile buttons and knobs elevate the user experience to something greater than the sum of its parts.

Superior Sound Starts with Onkyo

Sophisticated circuitry, elevated design choices, and next-generation tech are weaved into every millimeter of Onkyo’s new Icon Series. Our dedicated engineers believe everyone deserves an exceptional listening experience with all the nuance, detail, and emotion that the artists or players intended. The content played through any of our Icon Series products isn’t just heard – it’s felt.

Powering The Music That Moves You

The M-80 uses a three-stage Inverted Darlington Amplifier. The three-stage Inverted Darlington Amplifier has a very low output impedance and drives speakers powerfully with a large current. Also, by keeping NFB (Negative Feedback) low, it is not affected by noise from the speaker. It offers a powerful yet highly resolving and informative sound. The M-80’s output stage transistors are in parallel configuration, which provides excellent instantaneous current supply capability, further enhancing the rise of sound and the sense of power. The driver stage of the M-80 amplifier uses DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry). Reducing beats generated signals(noise) in the ultra-high frequency band by DIDRC’s high slew rate designand helps produce the natural sound of an analog record.

Cutting Edge Compomentry for Captivating Playback
The M-80 housing consists of two aluminum side panels and a steel top panel. The three-piece construction of the housings increases rigidity and improves seismic resistance. Various vibrations are suppressed and sound quality is improved.

Create Your Perfect System

The M-80 has an output power of 130w(FTC, 8Ω, 20Hz - 20kHz, THD 1%, 2ch driven) / 200w(4Ω, 1kHz, THD 0.7%, 2ch driven) which allows it to powerfully drive large speakers and bring you dynamic acoustic information. For example, Klipsch Forte speakers paired with the P-80 and M-80 would maximize the dynamic and extended sound of the Forte.

From Onkyo Academy: The Benefits Of A Power Amplifier

A power amplifier receives the signal from your pre-amp and literally powers it into your speakers. Think of your pre-amp as a brain, and your power amplifier as the muscle. Separating your amplifiers into pre- and power gives you ultimate flexibility in audio playback. Since they are not affected by each other’s circuits, they can provide high-resolution sound quality through even cleaner signal transmission. Audiophiles are well-known to prefer specific power amps and the way they impact sound quality and coloration. The M-80 is a power amplifier that reproduces the full range of artists or players’ intentions in their music and drives you into a world of emotion.

C.E.C. CD3300R CD player

State-of-the-art Cl and LEF technologies

Cl(Current Injection) is a landmark technology for shortening the signal path, improving the sound quality and measurement specs significantly. The eftective simplicity of Cl requires a non-feedback-loop amplifier. While Cl replaces the voltage amplifier, LEF guarantees the best performance of the current amplifier with low THD. The both technologies complement each other and overcome the limitations of traditional Op-amps to a better standard of music reproduction. The unique combination of Cl and LEF single-ended class A technologies in only one amplifier per balanced analog output state provides you with today's best possible sound quality. The amplifier section runs without overall negative feedback, and the amplifier creates no dynamic distortions.

Advanced D/A conversion

PCM1796 with balanced current output applied in the CD3300R is one of the latest Burr-Brown's DACS compatible with 24bit/192kHz. A multi-bit ladder-type design is ingeniously combined with a Delta-Sigma design to create a new hybrid advanced segment converter with superior dynamic range.

Attention to the power supply

A stable power supply is essential for high-quality sound reproduction. A toroidal power transformer provides completely separated power supplies for the CD drive and for the D/A conversion for the best performance. The detachable AC power cord can be changed to suit particular sound tastes.

Digital output

In addition to a coaxial and an optical digital outputs, the CD3300R also has an AES/EBU(XLR) digital output, enabling connection to a wide range of digital devices including external D/A converter and digital recording device like CD recorder.

C.E.C. AMP3300R amplifier

Control/Power Amplifier

Features the Load Effect Free (LEF) circuit

Pure class A single-ended, no-feedback circuit

Volume control with "Intelligent Gain Management" (IGM)

One balanced XLR Input and four unbalanced RCA inputs

Pure class A single-ended amplifier

The AMP3300R is a class A amplifier that features an extremely pure single-ended circuit with one voltage amplifier stage and one current amplifier stage that handle all music signal processing. The AMP3300R overcame the inefficient and extremely low output, which earlier class A amplifiers had, by combining the high-quality class A amplification with the Load Effect Free (LEF) circuit that avoids various sources of nonlinearities.

CEC's original LEF circuit

The AMP3300Rfeatures CEC's unique Load Effect Free circuit to completely avoid all factors that result in deterioration of sound quality. The LEF circuit makes possible pleasing and detailed playback as well as high efficiency. Every amplifier should be a perfect voltage source in theory while the current into the speaker is likely out of phase in relation to the voltage. The phase relation varies with the frequency, and it is even dynamically moving. NFB amplifiers are sensitive to this matter, specially to the dynamic changes. The LEF's current control stage is not linked to the signal voltage, and just checks the current requirement that depends on the speaker load without "knowing" about the phase relation to the voltage. This "phase independent operation" is an important reason for the obvious drive ability as well as sound quality. The AMP3300R also has an automatic bias adjust function for stable signal processing.

Fully balanced signal processing circuit

The AMP3300R adopts a full-balanced circuit design to achieve extremely high-speed and low-distortion signal transmission. Unbalanced input is converted to a balanced signal in the very first stage of the amplifier with no deterioration of sound quality, resulting in a fully balanced output signal. In addition, the left and right signals are processed in circuits divided to two different layers to ensure channel separation and a high-level stereo image.

IGM volume control

The Intelligent Gain Management (IGM) system is applied to minimize signal loss during volume adjustment. Sound level is adjusted by controlling the amplifier gain itself with a knob on the front panel. The input signal is not degraded by any mechanical volume resistor or CMOS device. As a result of this, lowest noise, low distortion and highest dynamic performance has been achieved.

Input and output

The AMP3300R has four conventional unbalanced RCA inputs and one balanced XLR input that enables a high quality balanced connection with a player like CEC's CD3300R. In addition, the AMP3300R can be connected to a recording devices such as tape recorder.

The speaker output with plastic cover in consideration of safety can be connected with a banana-plug or a Y-shaped plug.

Protection function

When continuous clipping is detected, the volume level is reduced automatically. In case of overheating, the unit is completely shut down. After cooling down, it turns on automatically.

The design objectives for our top-of-the-line turntable were simple; eliminate all unwanted resonance, speed error, noise and vibration while offering fingertip computer control convenience. The superlative QL-Y5F attests to our success, and we were able to make it beautiful to boot Read on.

JVC E-D Servo tonearm

A genuine breakthrough

JVC engineers isolated "tonearm resonance" as the most inimical of all conceivable resonance in a turntable, since it colors reproduction, adds distortion (particularly intermodulation) and prevents accurate arm tracking. JVC's E-D Servo tonearm solves the problem of "sympathetic resonance". See the full description of this remarkable tonearm on the next page.

The E-D Servo tonearm - construction

Two coreless linear motors are used in the E-D Servo tonearm. One, housed inside the structure positioned to the right of the vertical bearing, controls and adjust the arm's vertical position in relation with the record's surface. The other, positioned below the tonearm base, controls and adjust the arm's horizontal position in relation to the record groove.

Even warped records are no challenge to the E-D Servo tonearm

The E-D Servo system successfully damped the tonearm to shut out audible damage caused by low-frequency infrasonic and external vibration. The result is better record tracking, lower distortion a higher signal-to-noise ratio and even better Wow and Flutter.

Our Improved Double-Servo Quartz system has made speed control 30 times more accurate

Speed accuracy is nearly flawless thanks to the Double-Servo Quartz speed detection system for the platter motor

Coreless DC servo motor is cog-free yet powerful

Our coreless DC servo motor has no cores for cog-free, smooth rotation, yet has 50% more torque than conventional coreless designs, thanks to a push-pull drive circuit.

Up-front, light-touch controls and fully automatic operation for a unique operating experience

All the controls for this JVC masterpiece are on the front panel. All arm movements - up, down, left and right - are possible in the manual mode via light-touch buttons. Full automatic operation is supervised by a microcomputer and initiated by the Start/Stop button.

Other features:

Repeat for infinite playback of one record

Solid one-piece headshell doesn't rattle or resonate

Height adjustable tonearm arrangement (±3 mm)

LED indicators for speed, quartz-lock, record size, repeat and arm cue

Rosewood veneer cabinet, polished to a rich mirror finish.
