Tannoy's
engineers were briefed to produce a range of loudspeakers - of modest dimension
and price - which would retain that characteristic, and relese in your home
that special magic the musicans created.
The result of their research and development are now available to you in the
Stradford, Cambridge and Oxford loudspeakers.
Like all Tannoy Loudspeakers, these three models are highly efficient. This means that,
in comparasion with many other loudspeakers, your amplifier will not have to be
driven so hard to produce a realistic listening sound level, with less chance
of producing a distorted signal. Your ears will tell you the difference, with
the Tannoys producing a clean, truthful sound, which gives remarkable freedon
from listening fatigue. Unlike some speakers with unrealistic "over
Impressive" performance, you will not grow tired of our sound, and will
appreciate your investment in Tannoy for many years.
Tannoy
Oxford
The Oxford
uses the same HF compression driver, but matched to a 10" version of our
polyolefin cone bass driver. This combination, mounted in a larger cabinet made
from heavier weight material and walnut finish, offers the most extended
frequency response, and highest peak power handling capacity of this range.
The high
efficiency of the Oxford, as with all Tannoy Loudspeakers, enables you to
reproduce in your home realistic sound levels from even modestly powered
systems. Used in conjunction with quality electronics the lifelike detail and
articulation of the Oxford is really quite outstanding. It is no wonder that
the Oxford has been used professionally in monitoring the sound quality of live
performance location recording.
How do we
produce such good sounds? Well, to start with we are manufactures of complete
loudspeakers systems. The components of the Stradford, Cambridge and Oxford are
designed and manufactured in our own factory. This enables us to provide unique
solutions to acoustic problems that some other manufactures do not even
recognise.
Take our
tweeter for instance.
Conventional
cone or dome tweeters will not easily accept high level music transients
efficiently and without distortion. Our research programme produced the tannoy
horn loaded compression driver. This remarkable device uses a special magnetic
cooling fluid which enables it to handle far more power, and convert
significantly more of that power into clean sound. The controlled sound
dispersion also provides consistent stereo imager, which is less affected by
the acoustic characteristics of your listening room than many conventional HF
units.
We certainly
did not neglect the low frequency response of the Stradford, Cambridge and
Oxford. Two bass/mid-range drivers were developed, both using a cone made by
Tannoy from a polyolefin co-polymer - which provides a smoother, more extended
frequency response - mounted within a rigid pressure formed metal frame. Our
heavyweight magnet assembly provides high power handling with the legendary
Tannoy efficiency.
Both drivers
are mated to a crossover network carefully designed to provide optimum
performance with low distortion. We ensure reliable performance by using only
high quality components.
Last, but by
no means least, we designed a damped, very rigid ducted port cabinet for each
model, to give really solid bass response. Each cabinet has a Walnut finish
- and the detachable acoustic foam
grille of each model carries the famous gold badge of Tannoy - The Name for
Loudspeakers.
