What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Tandberg Sølvsuper 12 /12C

 Tandberg Sølvsuper - the best selling table receiver in Norway. You can now buy this famous model with a biult-in stereo cassette tape recorder as the Sølvsuper 12C. The cassette tape recorder has a microphone input, manual level controls for recording, and LED record level indicators. There are many reason why the Sølvsuper has become so popular. First of all its reliability. Then good design and a clean simple layout for the operating controls. Teh Sølvsuper 12 has the same quality features as its 11 predecessores. To obtain full enjoyment from it you ought to have loudspeakers that do it justice.

Features
FM stereo, long wave, medium wave, and short wave;
FM stereo tuner with built-in decoder, ceramic filters and integrated circuits;
Muting (no noise between atations) and AFC (automatic frequency control)
Powerful stereo amplifier. Sine wave output power 2 x 15 watts in 8 ohms, or 2 x 20 watts in 4 ohms
Frequency/Loudness compensated volume control;
Can be connected to a record player with ceramic or magnetic pick-up and a tape recorder;
Front jack for stereo headphones
 The Receiver
The stereo decoder in the FM tuner has integrated circuits and a light diode on scale automatically comes on when there is a stereo transmission. The FM tuner has ceramic filters that discriminate well between stations. This is a big advantage especially where two stations lie close together in the band. The muting circuit, which cuts out noise between FM stations, acn be connected and disconnected.

The High Quality Stereo Amplifier
The stereo amplifier has a great many valuable features. The volume control is common to both channels and  the balance between the channels can be changed by a balance control. There are very effective separate bass and treble controls. The volume control is frequency/loudness compensated. This means that it automatically corrects for the falling frequency response of the human ear at low volumes.
 Sølvsuper 12C - The Cassette Model
The Sølvsuper 12C has the same tuner and amplifier sections as the model 12. in addition it has a very good built-in cassette tape recorder for record and playback of programmes from radio, record player, microphone or another tape recorder. The traditional record level meters have been replaced with light emitting diodes for indicating the peak recording level. This is a very safe measurement technique. LED's have an almost unlimited life.

The Sølvsuper as the central unit in a Tandberg Music Centre.
Most people who own a Sølvsuper use it as the central unit in a music centre. This enables all the facilities of the stereo amplifier to be fully exploited. The Sølvsuper 12 can be connected to a tape recorder, a Tandberg 3500 Stereo for example, and a record player witha magnetic or ceramic pick-up. The Sølvsuper has 4 speaker outputs 92 for each channel)> this means that the music centre can consist of 2 or 4 Tandberg loudspeakers located together or in two separate groups.
