What is stereo?

There are now two system of high fidelity, monophonic (monaural) and stereophonic. Monophonic is a system that starts from one microphone and is fed through a single high fidelity set. Stereophonic is a double system. Two separate microphones are placed at different sides of the orchestra and two different systems are used to keep the two signals or channels separated. Two separate speakers are used, placed on different sides of you room. Stereo is much like 3-D photography, two slightly different sound reach your ears giving you a new dimension in sound.

Due to the equalization present in Phono and Tape Head positions, the meter readings for these inputs contain a considerable amount of random low-frequency noise, most of which is sub-audible.  Such noise is due to thermal agitation in tubes and resistors, contact resistance effects in electrolitic capacitors, power line variations, etc. In evaluating noise, the audibility of its various components must be considered. The extreme input sensitivity (1 mV) of the AA-100 Tape Head input must also be borne in mind.
The actual 60 Hz hum (and harmonics) included in the readings is very  small, compared to the mostly sub-audible noise components referred to above. As a matter of fact, the AA-100 is almost completely free from hum, for practical purposes.
